"—Curiosity will kill you, Alex!" Aurora playfully replies to him.
Alex chuckled at her response. He felt relieved that Aurora’s stress wasn’t caused by his mother—at least he no longer had to argue with her.
"Stop making assumptions..." Aurora adds, trying to mask her frustration with a warm smile. "I promise to share everything with you. Trust , there will be no secrets between us, Alex."
"I’m happy to be part of everything you do, Aurora." Alex’s smile widened as he gently patted her head before turning his attention back to the road ahead.
"Of course, you are my husband..." Aurora smiled gently and let her thoughts drift back to her investigation plan.
Her plan was pretty simple: once she had enough evidence, she’d show it to Alex and get his thoughts on how to deal with his grandpa.
She will listen to his opinion first before deciding what to do next.
...
When their car pulled into the driveway, Martin and Tina eagerly welcod them. From their gaze, Aurora could see the confusion in their eyes.
"Alex, I will be in my study room for a while..." Aurora said before she opened the car door.
"Of course! Just a heads-up that I might pop in during dinner ti. I hope that’s alright with you!"
With a warm smile, she nods at him and says, "Sure!" Afterward, she opens the car door and steps out.
Alex didn’t rush to enter the house but watched as Aurora and Tina went inside.
"Master? Why are you coming ho now? I thought..." Martin’s voice trailed off as he noticed Alex raise his hand, gesturing to him to stop.
"If soone asks, just ntion Aurora, and I will fly to the Maldives and will only return next Tuesday!" Alex said and left, leaving Martin gasping in shock.
Still, he follows Alex and responds, "Yes, sir..."
...
Tina was too worried and panicked to notice that Aurora’s gaze seed empty.
When she held Aurora’s hand while they climbed the stairs to the second floor, it felt like she was holding a cube of ice, so cold that her palm almost went numb.
"What’s wrong, Aurora? Are you alright?" This marks the first ti Tina has addressed her by na since she married Alex.
Aurora tried to smile, but her smile failed to reach her eyes.
"I’m fine, Aunty! I’m fine..." she replies in a gentle, hushed voice, wary of being overheard.
"I have known you since the day you were born... I know you deeply, Aurora... And I can see that you’re not okay."
Tina held Aurora’s hand even more tightly, concerned she might faint. She could feel Aurora’s trembling hand now.
’Heaven! My young miss, why does she cry!? Did they bully her in the main house?’ Tina was even more frightened hearing her thoughts.
When Tina saw her eyes looking red, she instantly knew sothing had happened to her.
"Young Miss, this is the third ti I’ve seen you like this. The first was when your mother died. The second, when your father died, and now. Who caused you this sadness?" Tina could no longer hold on to her fears and annoyance.
Aurora remains silent, attempting to control the intense emotions she has carried since her ti in the Graystone family’s house, continuing through her journey back ho.
And when she arrived at this place and saw Tina cheerfully wishing she had a good ti with her in-laws, all those emotions she held suddenly erupted. She could no longer hold them in.
She wanted to express her anger, disappointnt, and all the emotions she feels right now in her study room, but it seems she can’t do that. The overwhelming emotions now consu her.
Aurora can feel her breath being taken away, and all the energy she used to keep herself together seems drained.
"Young Miss... Young Miss... oh my god?" Tina scread in shock as she felt Aurora’s body slowly fall as if she could no longer support herself.
Tina quickly wrapped her arms around Aurora’s waist, holding her tightly to prevent her from falling to the floor.
"Young Miss? Aurora... what happened to you... Please HELP," Tina shouted, hoping they all heard her.
"What happened??"
Tina heard Alex’s voice from the stairs, and she hurriedly glanced behind as she saw Alex running faster toward them.
"Master, please help... my young miss, she fainted. She suddenly fainted. Please help..." Tina said, trembling as tears filled her eyes, unable to hold back her worried emotions.
Without a word, Alex swiftly took Aurora from Tina, cradling her in his arms. His expression reflected Tina’s, filled with worry and fear, as he noticed how pale Aurora’s face had beco.
Alex sensed the chill in her body, which made him even more afraid. He looked at Martin, who was also on the second floor with them.
"Call the doctor, Martin! Imdiately!" He commanded as he carried Aurora to the bedroom.
After putting Aurora to bed and ensuring she was under a warm blanket, Alex turned to see Tina standing near the door, sobbing as she looked at the bed with concern.
Alex took a mont to steady himself before asking, "Tina, what happened to my wife? Why did she suddenly faint?"
"M-Master, I really need to ask you..." Tina wiped away her tears as she continued, "Why is my young miss so upset? She even cried after coming back from your parents’ house?"
The wrinkles on Alex’s forehead deepened in shock when he heard Aurora’s cries just before she fainted. He recalled her unusual behavior during their ti at her parents’ house and while they were in the car heading ho.
’I know it! She’s pretending to be okay...’ Alex whispered, calming himself, as he felt seriously worried about her.
"Did she explain the reason for her sudden tears?" Alex asked.
"No, Master..." Tina shook her head gently. She had managed to keep her emotions in check. "But I noticed she looked a bit down and gloomy earlier. It reminded of that sa deep sadness I saw in her when her parents passed away..."
