Just as Aurora settled into her seat after making herself a lovely cup of coffee, her cell phone rang unexpectedly.
She thought Renata would be the one to call, but she was wrong. The person who called her was soone she would never have suspected: Andrew Graystone, Alex’s grandfather.
Aurora turned her chair to face the glass wall, glancing outside as she quickly answered the phone.
"Good morning, Grandpa..."
"Oh, Aurora, good morning, dear. I’m so happy we finally talked. And I wouldn’t mind even though it’s only over the phone...as long as we could talk,"
Andrew Graystone’s cheerful voice rang through from the other end, bringing warmth, even though it made Aurora feel awkward.
"Grandpa, I’m happy too," Aurora responded, a half smile on her lips; clearly, she didn’t feel that way.
Instead, she was nervous about why this old man contacted her instead of contacting Alex.
"How are you, dear? Are you alright? Did Alex treat you well? Or did he bully you?" His tone shows a genuine concern.
A soft chuckle escaped her as she pictured Alex bullying her—definitely not.
Recently, however, Alex had developed an obsession with her, becoming a completely different person in her view.
"I’m fine. No, of course not, Grandpa. Alex was really kind and sweet to ."
She quickly reassured him.
Andrew Graystone cleared his throat.
"That’s wonderful, my dear Aurora! Just rember, if he makes you upset, you must contact . I’ll be sure to have a little chat with him."
"Hahaha, of course, Grandpa... I will," she responds teasingly.
"Oh right, Aurora... I have tried calling Alex many tis to ask him to co here, but he always refuses. He says he’s busy and doesn’t have ti. Could you please persuade him to visit us? I miss both you and Alex."
A deep sigh echoed from the other end, clearly reflecting Andrew Graystone’s desperation.
Aurora could only take a deep breath upon hearing Andrew Graystone’s sentence. She knew Alex was busy, but he wasn’t that busy at all. He could still visit them if he wanted.
In her previous life, Alex seldom visited his parents’ house. He would only return if sothing important ca up.
But now Andrew Graystone calls and pleads; she feels unable to refuse him.
Furthermore, she wishes to return to Pine Hills to et her father. She misses him very much!
"Grandpa, don’t worry; I’ll speak to Alex..." Aurora could only respond like this, wishing Alex would agree with the plan to visit Pine Hill this weekend.
"Oh dear, thank you. I hope you both can spend a night with us..." Andrew Graystone said excitedly.
Aurora’s expression stiffened. Visiting Pine Hills was easy to convince Alex, but staying overnight was another challenge.
"Sure, Grandpa..."
After chatting for a while with Andrew Graystone, Aurora finally excused herself to continue her work. But she didn’t rush back to it; instead, she texted Alex.
"Alex, your Grandpa, has called. He asked to visit this weekend."
After sending that, she typed another text.
"I’m sorry that I said yes. I hope you don’t mind."
After reading the last ssage, Aurora feels a little hesitant to send it.
Still, her deep yearning for her father forces her to hit send anyway.
...
Ti flew by, and before Aurora knew it, it was lunchti.
She was so engrossed in her work that she didn’t even notice when Josh appeared at her desk, interrupting her focus.
"Lady boss, you work so hard..."
Josh playfully voiced, only to add to Aurora’s annoyance.
"What is it, Josh?"
Aurora asked without looking away from his computer screen, her fingers moving quickly to finish her job.
Josh faintly smiled, looking at her so engrossed in her job that it caused him to abandon teasing her again.
"Aurora, this is lunchti. Do you want to eat here or in the cafeteria?"
Aurora was taken aback as she stopped to check her watch. "Geez, why did ti fly by so fast, huh!?"
"If you’re busy, I can order for us. What would you like to eat today? Chinese, Japanese, xican, or Italian?" Josh offered.
"Aurora, Josh, let’s head to the cafeteria. I’ve been missing eating there." Suddenly, David appeared next to Josh. For the last few days, they had been going to Serendipity Restaurant for lunch nearly every day, and he was beginning to feel bored.
Aurora agrees with David.
...
By the ti they arrived at the cafeteria, the atmosphere was lively and crowded with other staff.
Luckily, they still managed to sit near the window, allowing them to enjoy the city scenery.
Surprisingly, Max was there as well; he waited for them. After learning Aurora knew his brother, Max chose to stay in the internship and frequently socialized with her and others.
The four of them began to eat while engaging in light conversation.
Shortly after, the cafeteria atmosphere turned noisy and chaotic.
Many employees paused their als, glancing toward the elevator.
Aurora and the others beca distracted as they noticed the center of attention, which excited other employees.
"What the hell happened there?" David asked, confused. He could see a few staff mbers beginning to take out their cell phones to capture photos or videos.
"Let check..." Josh stood up from his seat, volunteering to investigate as he was concerned that sothing had gone wrong with security.
But before Josh had ti to walk, he suddenly saw two male figures appear, making him tense. Unexpectedly, he turned to Aurora to ensure she also spotted the two people who caused the commotion.
Aurora was utterly shocked. She saw Alex and Jimmy Palr appear there.
Not wanting Alex to notice them, she urged the others to sit down again and continue eating, ignoring the CEO and COO’s suddent arrival in this place.
"What the...why bro Al...." David’s voice trailed off; he almost exposed himself to Max. He hurried to his seat and continued eating, acting casually as if nothing had happened.
"Huh? That man... Mr. Alexander Graystone? He also cos to eat here?" Max, who had never t Alex in person, was shocked.
