Aurora stood in front of Alex’s room, her hands feeling too heavy to knock on the door.
A few tis, she considered returning to her room and simply pretending to be asleep.
’If I pretend to be sound asleep, I’m pretty sure Alex will let sleep, won’t he?’
She suppressed a smile, delighted by her clever plan.
’Yes, I should do that!’
Aurora clenched her hands in agreent with her idea. However, just as she was about to head to her bedroom, her cell phone vibrated in her hand.
Upon reading the text ssage from Alex, a chill ran through her.
"What are you doing standing in front of the door? Feel free to go in first; I’m in my office and have sothing to take care of."
’Oh my! Did he watch the CCTV?’ Aurora thought, casting a look at the cara in the corner.
She flashed a smile at the cara before she opened her bedroom door.
Standing behind the door, Aurora rubs her chest to calm her racing heartbeat. She feels relieved to find the room empty.
There was no trace of Alex in the room, yet her heart raced even faster when her gaze fell on the king-size bed at the center.
This wasn’t the first ti she had entered Alex’s room, but this ti, she felt anxious, as if a hurricane were raging inside her stomach and brain. Despite her efforts, she remained unable to calm down.
After a short pause, Aurora closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and spoke to herself.
’Rory! Please calm down, okay!? Rember, you are the cute and frail Aurora Spencer now. And you are his cute and frail wife... so act like it! Leave behind your past as her assistant.’
When Aurora opened her eyes again, she felt much better. The chaos in her mind had settled down, allowing her to think more clearly and calmly.
She walked over to turn off the light, leaving only the yellow lamp glowing in the corner of the room.
After ensuring the room was dim and warm, she hurried onto the bed and lay on the side Alex had never used.
’God! I hope to fall asleep quickly and soundly. Please, let have a good, deep sleep. I want to avoid repeating what happened last night.’
After praying silently in her heart, she tried to sleep.
But after a few minutes, the feeling of sleepiness gently faded. Her mind danced with thoughts of Alex.
As much as she tried to dismiss Alex from her mind, she found it impossible. This left her feeling frustrated.
’Should I drink his sleeping pill?’ she wonders while gazing at the corner. She knows Alex has those kinds of pills, just in case he can’t sleep.
Later,
Aurora heard the bedroom door creak open as she prepared to leave her bed. Imdiately, she froze, afraid to make a sound or even move a muscle.
She pretends to be asleep, hoping Alex will ignore her and sleep too.
Thankfully, Alex finally climbed into bed and settled under his blanket.
She could feel his slow and gentle movents as if he didn’t want to wake her up.
A relieved smile graced her lips as she continued to try to sleep.
But, once more, Alex began to make her nervous when he started talking.
"Aurora, are you asleep?" he asked in a soft voice.
Of course, Aurora wouldn’t answer him; she continued to ignore him to show him she was asleep.
A gentle chuckle filled the air as he continued, "I know you haven’t slept."
’What the fuck, Alex!? How did he figure that out?’ Aurora kept ignoring him. She wishes he would stop talking to her.
After a minute, he added, "Alright, you don’t have to answer if you don’t wish to. But I just want to let you know that I have a business trip tomorrow, so you probably won’t see for a week or more."
Aurora slowly opened her eyes.
’A business trip? Why did he suddenly have that long business trip?’
She rembers that the trip would involve flying abroad whenever he suddenly has an extended business trip, two or more weeks. And whenever he suddenly has an unplanned flight, sothing terrible must have happened at the destination.
Thinking about that makes her worry, and she can’t help but feel her curiosity start to fill her mind.
Aurora wanted to wake up and ask him, but she felt too embarrassed because he would realize that she was pretending to sleep.
"Please don’t hurt yourself when I’m not around," Alex pleaded. His tone sounded gentle enough to make Aurora feel defeated.
Aurora gritted her teeth.
"Is everything okay with your company?" Aurora inquired, shifting her body to face him. She silently swallowed when she noticed that he was also facing her.
Alex took a mont before responding to her.
His mind raced as he tried to think of a way to ask Martin about switching the bed to a cozy queen-size. The king-size bed felt so large, creating a gap between him and Aurora, making it hard to draw her close at night.
"Alex, you hear , right? Please answer ..." Aurora asked again, noticing the frown on his forehead as he appeared deep in thought.
Seeing Alex continue to ignore her, Aurora grew increasingly worried. Having worked for Alex for a long ti, she knew he must be in big trouble.
"Is your company having a serious problem? Is there anything I can help you with?" she offered, wishing she could help him.
Alex was slightly surprised when he heard her words.
Still, he quickly softened his expression and smiled gently, "Thank you, Aurora, for your concern. No need to worry; it’s just a regular business trip."
"Thank God," Aurora breathed a sigh of relief. "When is your flight?"
"In the afternoon, I will fly directly after my eting at the office..." Alex kept detailing his schedule for her.
Aurora silently listened to him, trying to guess which company had caused him so much stress. If she had ti tomorrow, she would look at what Alex is dealing with on this trip and see if she could do anything to help him.
However, Aurora suddenly shuddered at the thought that if she did that, Alex would be even more confused about her and would start comparing her to Aurora Moon again.
She quickly dismissed the idea.
