The bandit chuckled as Darrin barely deflected a lunging hound, steel shaking in his grip. "Should’ve run, kid. Even if it’s your job."

The guard’s breath ca ragged, sword arm trembling. Blood already stained his sleeve. Yet Vergil watched unmoved. So fights exist only to show others what dying looked like.

Vergil’s gaze drifted past the chaos and back to the woman. Calm where others would scream out of desperation.

He narrowed his eyes, activating Analysis once more.

Vergil’s eyes now glead with curiosity. Her ’kit of skills’ was exceptional. She was built for war. Kill and eat her or spare to use as leverage.

His eyes lingered on her still form inside the carriage. But what would her response be? It would be best to see the situation first.

Kieran sneered, lips curling into a grin. "

"Good instincts, but a sha they’ll just make you die slower."

The command flicked through his bond, the hounds lunging in unison.

Vergil drew his dagger in silence, shifting his body weight. The world slowed until all that existed was the steady rhythm of his pulse.

Steel whispered as he began to cut. The rhythm ca back easily. Too easily.

Slash. Spurt!

The first hound dropped mid-leap, throat torn wide. Its screech ended in a wet gurgle.

The second’s claws ripped at dirt as Vergil sidestepped, severing tendons in a flash. It writhed, shrieking, until his sword ended it.

The third pounced, but Vergil had already predicted it.

Vergil pivoted, jaws snapping shut inches from his cheek. His sword carved through its ribs with a shhk—splrrt. Blood sprayed his coat.

Three corpses twitched at his feet.

Kieran stumbled back, eyes wide. "Impossible—my pack!"

Vergil’s gaze fell on him. Heavy and silent while fear finished the rest.

The bandit lashed out, blade gleaming with poison. Shadow Footwork flickered, movents quick. But Vergil’s sword t his, sparks flying. The strike lacked weight.

Sloppy and all tricks. The man in front of him was nothing but a trivial nuisance to him compared to yesterday.

Vergil’s boot slamd into his gut. Kieran wheezed, stumbling back, but snapped his blade in Quick Draw—desperate to win.

The edge grazed Vergil’s cheek but nothing more. His sword thrust through the bandit’s shoulder.

Kieran scread. Poison hissed uselessly into the dirt. His grip beginning to falter.

Vergil ripped the blade free. The man collapsed, sobbing through broken curses.

Yet Vergil said nothing. His silence did the killing.

"Pathetic."

The word wasn’t for Kieran, but for those who begged for rcy instead of fighting.

Vergil wiped his cheek with the back of his hand. His expression never shifted.

Authority of Predation.

Black mouths blood from Vergil’s hand, devouring corpses with sickening crunches. Bones cracking while flesh dissolved into the mouths. Even Kieran’s body shriveled into nothing but bones.

"Not bad."

Behind him, Darrin staggered upright. His eyes were wide, glassy with awe and horror of the boy who was no older than 15. "You... you killed them all... just like that..."

Vergil didn’t look at his face. His eyes tracked the ragged bite wound on his neck, skin already darkening, stinking of rot.

The boy trembled, waiting. Hope flickered.

Vergil raised his palm. The mouths surged upon him. He didn’t flinch. rcy one had a sound, he had learnt to stop hearing it.

The guard scread once before only silence remained.

[User has gained 5 skills]

[Stats increased: Constitution 2, Intelligence 1]

[Level up! 3 points available.]

"All into mana capacity."

A faint smirk curled his lips. Another step forward.

From the carriage, Eleanor finally stirred. Her voice cut through the stillness. Calm. Steady.

"You’re efficient," Eleanor spoke. "Almost like you’ve done it before... many tis."

Her voice wasn’t praise. It was observation sharpened into curiosity.

Her eyes glead like glass, bright and unreadable. Not gratitude, but out of calculation.

Vergil t her gaze. Unflinching. Sothing in her stillness made the air feel heavier–like she already knew what he was.
