Chapter 23 Part III
When she turned to look, she saw an outstanding handso man peering in to see what they were doing. At this mont, He Yu was holding a pencil Zhenzhu had made, while she was guiding him with a paper marked with a formation.
"Brother Lang!"
"Taizi!"
The siblings exclaid in shock. Why was Taizi here?
"T... This servant invited him in," Peipei, standing timidly behind, said in a soft voice.
"Oh," Zhenzhu replied.
Zhenzhu and He Yu respectfully greeted the high-status man according to custom.
"Brother Lang, please have a seat," Zhenzhu invited.
"Mm," Wenlang sat down on the bamboo bench as the host suggested. Peipei quickly ran inside to prepare refreshnts for the esteed guest.
Wenlang looked at the He siblings. They had grown up. He Yu, who used to have chubby cheeks, was now as tall as his sister. Lady He Zhenzhu had grown into a lovely young lady. Her big, bright eyes, beautifully arched eyebrows like crescent moons, and naturally rosy lips, the beauty adorned her small face perfectly. It was not long since they last t, yet she had grown a lot.
"What are you two doing? Making a new warrior outfit?"
"Yes. I plan to sell it to Brother Hao, but if Brother Lang is interested, I can sell it to you instead. It’s no problem." Selling it to anyone would bring in money, and Brother Lang was wealthier than Brother Hao.
"Sell it to Brother Hao. There will always be battles to fight. What’s special about this outfit?" The clothes designed by this lady couldn’t be ordinary.
"I’ll tell you when it’s finished. It’s still in the experintal phase.”
"Oh."
"So, Brother Lang, what brings you here?" She had heard that there was a war in the south. Why would Taizi co north? Brother Lang didn’t seem like the type to run away from danger.
Upon hearing Zhenzhu’s question, Wenlang’s expression grew serious.
"Where is Master He? I want to explain everything at once.”
"Father is at the association. I’ll have a servant fetch him. Please co to the reception hall, Brother Lang." Zhenzhu saw Wenlang’s not quite well expression, sensing sothing big had happened, enough to bring Taizi of the region here.
"I can wait here. The weather is nice." The snow had stopped, and the air was pleasantly cool.
Zhenzhu called a male servant to ride a horse and fetch her father from the agricultural experint field. It didn’t take long for He Lei to rush back.
"Greetings, Taizi.”
"Mm, relax. No need for formalities.”
"Zhu’er, why did you have Taizi sit on the bamboo bench? You should have invited him to the reception hall," He Lei scolded his daughter for not knowing the proper etiquette.
"Don’t bla her. It was who wanted to sit here and enjoy the breeze.”
"Then please, Taizi, let’s go to the reception hall.”
He Lei, Zhenzhu, and Wenlang moved into the reception hall to discuss the urgent matter.
Wenlang wasted no ti in explaining the situation about the dark character appearing in the army in full detail.
"Now, soldiers are falling ill continuously, and the rest of the troops are losing morale.” They hadn’t even gone to battle yet and were already facing a devastating disease. How could the situation not be dire?
Upon hearing Wenlang’s story, father and daughter were shocked, especially Zhenzhu. She recalled an incident years ago when she encountered a strange man with a repulsive aura of power of the character. Later, she witnessed soone being overwheld by a dark character and collapsing before her eyes.
Now, it seed that thing was even infiltrating Yan’s army. What should they do? Soldiers were the region’s shield. Without them, Yan Region would be as soft as a ripe persimmon.
"Then?" Zhenzhu asked.
"Then I would like to invite an inscription master who possesses Tao Shaotou’s art of ancient characters to help solve this problem. Would that be possible?"
"Hey!" Zhenzhu exclaid in shock. Brother Lang knew she was an inscription master, but did he also know she was the heir to Tao Shaotou’s teachings? Could it be that the character she inscribed on Brother Hao back then was unknown in this ti, leading Brother Lang to deduce this? She wasn’t sure what treatnt characters the current physicians were using.
"Uh... um..."
"What do you say? Will you help Yan Region, A’Zhu?"
It couldn’t be more obvious than this. Brother Lang already knew, which ant Brother Hao must know as well. Who else knew about this?
Zhenzhu looked at her father for his opinion. She wasn’t confident in handling dark characters because she wasn’t an expert in this field. Even the inscription masters in the royal palace couldn’t solve this issue, so how could she?
He Lei, feeling a heavy weight in his heart, wasn’t reluctant to help but the place his daughter had to go was the army of Yan Region, an unsafe place, especially in tis of war like this.
However, the problem was significant. If her small efforts could save the region from disaster, it would be a great help to the people once again.
He Lei thought deeply before letting out a long sigh.
"Go and help Taizi and the general.”
"Rest assured, Master He. I will take good care of her.” He understood that a father wouldn’t want his daughter to be in danger, especially during a war, just walking of the house was considered dangerous.
"Thank you, Your Highness. I entrust my daughter to you.”
Eventually, Zhenzhu had to hurriedly pack her belongings to travel south as quickly as possible. She swept everything in her residence into her dinsional bracelet before running to the back of the field.
"Baihu, Xiao She, let’s go on an adventure!" This was the first ti she was traveling so far from ho alone, and she was quite excited.
That evening, she had to set off for the south, traveling against the flow of refugees heading north. Well, consider this building rit like the deities and immortals.
Traveling from Fengfu City to the southern border, the war zone between the two Regions, would take six days and five nights on a fast horse. Using a carriage would take even longer. Wenlang suggested that Zhenzhu, being a delicate woman, travel by carriage instead, as she couldn’t endure a non-stop journey like n.
However, Zhenzhu imdiately refused. How could she ride in a carriage? She had spent three months learning to ride a horse proficiently from the Black Hawk Sect master. She intended to ride on this journey, exploring the realm. Zhenzhu already thought of herself as a female warrior.
"A’Zhu, you’re a woman. How can you ride all day and night like a man? Take the carriage.”
"I can ride, Brother Lang," she insisted firmly. She was a silver-tier spirit energy cultivator, far stronger than an average man. How could anyone say she couldn’t ride a horse? No. She intended to ride a horse, then she would ride a horse. Riding would also make the journey much faster than taking a carriage.
"But..." Wenlang was worried. He took soone’s child, if he treated her badly, her father would hold him accountable. However, before he could say more, Zhenzhu interrupted.
"Brother Lang, are you coming or not? If not, I’ll go back to sewing," she crossed her arms and pouted.
"Sigh. Let’s go." The one who was worried was now speechless. So stubborn.
In the end, Zhenzhu got her wish and rode on horseback. Refugees traveling north saw a young girl riding a large horse heading south with a group of n. Strangely, she had a small bag on her back with a white kitten peeking out occasionally. Moreover, upon closer look, there was a small snake coiled around her small arm. Townspeople speculated she must be the lady of a significant sect sent to explore the martial world to gain experience. But why did her bodyguard look so handso? Could one need to have such a beautiful bodyguard? They wondered if his martial arts skills were as good as his looks. This lady really caused an envious feeling among people.
The journey went smoothly for several days. Wenlang was surprised that despite the heat or strong sun, the girl never complained or asked to rest. However, Wenlang still ordered frequent breaks to ensure she didn’t get too tired.
What should have been a six-day, five-night journey to the military camp took eight days and seven nights due to the frequent stops. Finally, they arrived at the camp.
As soon as Zhenzhu rode into the camp, although the guards didn’t stop her because she was with Taizi, a young girl entering the military camp drew everyone’s attention. The soldiers wondered why Taizi had brought a woman into the camp.
Wenlang led Zhenzhu to a specially prepared guest residence for her to rest. Baihu and Xiao She, upon entering the camp, imdiately disappeared, leaving Zhenzhu unsure of their whereabouts.
"A’Zhu, I’ll send a maid for you. Rest first.”
"No need, I can manage myself." How could she have a maid? At ho, she didn’t have a maid serving her either. Only Peipei cooked and cleaned the house, while she handled all her personal matters herself.
"Accept it. Having them to help will be better. The military camp might be a bit tougher than your ho.”
After organizing everything, Wenlang left, leaving Zhenzhu alone in the residence. The guest residence was simply built with only a few furniture.
She lay down on a bed covered with a rough sheet. Exhausted from the long journey, Zhenzhu quickly fell asleep.
She didn’t know how long she had been asleep when her bracelet suddenly grew hot. She jolted awake and quickly took it off.
Her delicate wrist turned red from the heat.
What is this?!
This dinsional bracelet had been with her for many years, she always wore it. The surface was cool and smooth, never causing any discomfort against her skin, and never had an incident like this. Why was it suddenly hot?
She stared at the dinsional bracelet lying on the floor.
Eh? What’s happening?
Knock, knock, knock.
The sound of knocking on the door snapped Zhenzhu out of her thoughts. She quickly went to open it and found two charming maids standing there.
"My na is Yinghua, and this is Yuejiu. We are here to serve you, miss. This is a new set of bedding. We will change it for you," the maid introduced herself and her companion, then asked permission to enter and change the bedding. Normally, this residence was a guest residence used for generals and commanders from the eastern, western, or northern borders, so the bedding was coarse, suited for the n who was a soldier. Since a lady was staying here, they needed to change the bedding to prevent her skin from being irritated.
"Oh, my na is Zhenzhu. You don’t need to change the sheet; I brought my own." Zhenzhu had stored everything, including her blanket and mattress, in her dinsional bracelet, so it was better to use her own.
"Then, let us help you set it up," Yinghua was not surprised. So ladies from prominent family were very particular about their bedding and had their servant brought their own when they traveled. This young lady must be the sa.
"Oh, co in," Zhenzhu invited them in. Just then, a breeze wafted a faint sll of blood from outside.
"Huh, where is that blood sll coming from?" Zhenzhu exclaid.
But upon thinking about it, she nodded. This was a military camp, so it was likely from soldiers getting injured during training.
"Is it the sll from this shirt? I apologize, miss. I was carrying the Young General’s shirt to wash, but your guest residence was on the way, so I stopped here first. Please forgive ," Yuejiu, standing behind, explained. When Yinghua stepped aside, Zhenzhu saw a pile of clothes in her arms. There were not many maids in the military camp, so they had to perform multiple tasks, including washing, cooking, and cleaning. Hence, she had the Young General’s clothes with her.
"Is that so? Why is there blood? Is your Young General injured?"
"It’s just a minor injury from training, miss.”
"Oh," Zhenzhu acknowledged, stepping aside to let them into the residence. She walked over to pick up the dinsional bracelet lying on the floor, but as she reached for it, it beca even hotter.
"Huh, it’s still not cooling down?" Zhenzhu was puzzled. No matter how she thought about it, she couldn’t figure out why her dinsional bracelet was suddenly heating up. Could it be sothing inside? She wasn’t sure what exactly was in there since she had thrown everything into it before setting out on her journey.
"Where is your bed sheet, miss? We’ll lay it out for you," Yinghua asked.
"Just a mont." Zhenzhu found a thick cloth to wrap around her hand before picking up the bracelet and running outside. Outside, she saw a small lotus pond with quite a bit of water. She decided to try soaking the bracelet to see if it would cool down.
However, the further she ran out, the hotter the bracelet beca, so much so that she could feel the heat through the thick cloth. As she passed a pile of old clothes that Yuejiu had left by the door, the bracelet suddenly vibrated.
Huh?
Zhenzhu stopped abruptly. Why did it vibrate? What was special about these clothes?
Without wasting ti to be curious, Zhenzhu dropped her bracelet onto the bloodstained pile. Imdiately, the blood on the clothes was absorbed into her bracelet.
"Hey!" Zhenzhu exclaid in shock. The two maids rushed out when they heard her shout.
"Miss, what happened?" they asked, peeking out.
"N... Nothing, It... It’s...” Zhenzhu quickly positioned herself to block their view of the clothes. How could she explain that her bracelet had just absorbed soone else’s blood? Would they think she was so kind of demon?
"Go wait inside. I’ll get the bed sheet." Zhenzhu quickly pushed them back into the house before closing the door, not giving them a chance to say anything.
She turned back to look at her dinsional bracelet in alarm. Could you not scare like this? Do you feed on blood?
You didn’t just drink any blood, you drank the Young General’s blood? Aren’t you a bit too picky?
Why did this happen? Zhenzhu tried to recall if she had stored anything unusual in the dinsional bracelet, but no matter how hard she thought, she couldn’t rember. She had used this bracelet for years, tossing everything into it, so she couldn’t be sure if she had forgotten about sothing strange.
Shaking her head slightly, Zhenzhu looked at the bracelet again. Now, all the bloodstains on Yong Saiweihao’s clothes had vanished without a trace.
It even absorbed all the blood, leaving no stains at all?
Zhenzhu reached out to touch the bracelet to see if it was still hot. To her surprise, her dinsional bracelet had returned to normal.
Could it have heated up because it slled the blood on the clothes the maid brought in, causing it to react this way? Zhenzhu quickly looked inside the dinsion.
Ugh... it’s a ss! She should organize the contents of the dinsion a bit.
Zhenzhu hurriedly took the bed sheet out of the dinsional bracelet and handed it to the waiting maidservants.
Once the maids finished making the bed, they left. Zhenzhu closed the door and bolted it, then emptied everything from the dinsional bracelet onto the floor. Seeing the pile of items, she was shocked. She had accumulated so much old stuff. Zhenzhu sifted through the items: clothes, silk, blankets, garnts, a silk cocoon boiling pot, a loom, a table, rugs, old shoes, sewing tools, and various necessities she had bought and forgotten about. Should she open an antique shop in the military camp?
Zhenzhu sighed deeply before beginning to categorize and organize the items. She needed to sort them out to determine which one had absorbed the Young General’s blood.
Zhenzhu systematically categorized the items and put them back into the dinsion in an orderly manner to make them easier to find and use. So items she kept, others she discarded. It took her more than three hours to put everything back into the dinsional bracelet. However, two items still lay on the floor.
The first was a divination turtle shell, which now had a shiny, lustrous surface with no cracks that it used to have. The second was a seed she had collected during her journey at the Kongque Valley. At that ti, she had collected several strange seeds, but all of them had been planted and propagated except for this single golden seed. She had forgotten she still had it.
These two items were her suspects for the blood absorption, as everything else in her dinsion was ordinary.
Just then, a white ball leapt in through the window. It was a small white cat with adorable erald eyes.
"Baihu, co take a look at this," Zhenzhu beckoned to Baihu, who was in his small cat form. She pointed to the two suspicious items and recounted the earlier events in detail for Baihu to hear.
"Can you tell which one of these absorbed the blood?"
Baihu tilted his head in curiosity, then sniffed the items. He padded over to the golden seed.
"It’s this one."
Because the faint scent of blood still clung to it, Baihu, with his keen sense of sll, quickly found the answer.
"What kind of seed is this, Baihu?!" Zhenzhu was alard. This was the one that had absorbed the blood. What kind of seed was it?
"I don’t know. Ask Xiao She," Baihu said, as Xiao She was more familiar with nature and plants.
Before Zhenzhu could say anything, Xiao She, in the form of a small green snake with a single horn, slithered through the gap in the door. It quickly coiled around the golden seed. Just as Zhenzhu was about to ask, Baihu spoke up.
"Xiao She says it is a Spirit and Soul plant seed."
" What is Spirit and Soul plant?" She had never heard of a spirit and soul plant before.
"A Spirit and Soul plant is a plant that possesses a spirit. To cultivate it, you not only need to nourish it with spirit energy but also with the blood of the grower to help it grow," Baihu said, relaying the information of Spirit and Soul plant Xiao She had shared. Zhenzhu was astounded upon listening.
In essence, a Spirit and Soul plant is similar to a beast. They possess thoughts and spirits like beasts and can cultivate spirit energy and advance to higher tiers as well. However, for a Spirit and Soul plant to grow, it must first form a bond with a human. The human then has the duty of cultivating and nurturing it. However, most Spirit and Soul plants are extrely proud. If they cannot find a suitable human to bond with, they refuse to grow and eventually beco extinct. Consequently, Spirit and Soul plants are now rare and nearly extinct. But if they do bond with soone, they remain loyal to that person for their entire life, which is much longer than that of a human. So Spirit and Soul plants can live for up to 500 years.
Spirit and Soul plants co in various types, each with different abilities. So can attack enemies with poison, while others use their sharp leaves as weapons.
"So, does this an that this Spirit and Soul plant seed likes the scent of Brother Hao’s blood and wants to form a bond with him?" Zhenzhu asked.
"Correct."
"What kind of plant is it, and what abilities does it have? Why is it attracted to Brother Hao’s blood?" Zhenzhu asked Xiao She again.
"It is a Zhanchang Vine. This type of vine loves combat and has special abilities in using poison and creating illusions to deceive enemies."
Zhenzhu sat there with her mouth agape. It was such a valuable plant. Why didn’t it absorb her blood instead? Why did it prefer soone else’s blood so much? How wonderful it would be to have a Spirit and Soul plant to nurture?
Little did Zhenzhu know that the Zhanchang Vine is a plant that loves fighting and killing. The scent of murderous aura in the blood of Yong Saiweihao, who had been roaming the martial world since he was young and had spent many years on the battlefield, was extrely strong. Therefore, the proud Zhanchang Vine chose Yong Saiweihao as the one to form a bond with.
