Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Got Married!
When they arrived at the Chengs’ residence, they were not welcod, as Cheng Luiying had anticipated.
"What the heck are you doing here? You have returned after two days; why do not you just stay wherever you ca from?" Mrs. Cheng, Cheng Luiying’s mother, chastised her the mont she entered the living room.
She raised her brow slightly, clearly unconcerned about what her mother thought of her, but Xin Yi would not have it.
"I suppose I am not welco here either," Xin Yi said as he appeared from behind the door.
He had not gone in with her because he wanted to see for himself what they had done to her.
"Young Master Xin," said Cheng Nan, Luiying’s sister, sweetly.
Xin Yi gave her a disgusted look and imdiately stepped back. She was disappointed because she did not understand why he was cold to her.
"Mrs Cheng, Luiying, and I are getting married; we need her family register," Xin Yi stated directly.
"What? "Young Master Xin, are you kidding?" Mrs Cheng frowned as Cheng Nan scread in a sharp tone.
"Do I appear to be a jokester?" He sneered at the foolish girl, wondering why she was not as intelligent as her older sister.
But, Young Master Xin, why have you decided to marry her? Rember, she broke up with you and has a fiancé," Mrs Cheng frowned, casting a malicious look at Cheng Luiying, who did not bat an eyelid.
She had given up on her mother. She no longer had any hope for her.
"Do you think I am unaware of why she broke up with ?" She told
the truth, and I am disappointed in you; you are her mother, and you took advantage of her feelings," Xin Yi berated her harshly.
Mrs Cheng was caught off guard. She had not expected her daughter to tell Xin Yi.
"I do not have ti to waste; just hand over the family register, and once Cheng Luiying marries , she will cut all ties with you; she will belong solely to
and the Xin household, as we will take care of her and treat her like the queen she is," Xin Yi said firmly.
Mrs Cheng and Cheng Nan were stunned, looking on with wide eyes.
"Are you kidding ?" "Young Master Xin, please tell
you are joking," Cheng Nan said, laughing slightly.
He gave her a look, clearly annoyed by her incessant chatter.
"Mrs Cheng, please make it quick; I can not wait to marry Cheng Luiying," Xin Yi pleaded, and Mrs Cheng was forced to go into her room to retrieve the family register.
When she arrived downstairs, she reluctantly handed over the family register to him.
He accepted it, satisfied with himself. He turned to Cheng Luiying, who just shook her head in helplessness.
"Now, let
warn you: Cheng Luiying will be my wife, and no one will stop
from marrying her; you are her family, but you have hurt her enough, and I will not give you any more chances," he warned.
"And if you try to resist, I believe you do not want the entire world to know that your company evades taxes," he said with a malicious glint in his eyes.
Mrs Cheng beca pale, while Cheng Luiying was taken aback. She wanted to ask, but she knew her mother would not respond, so she refrained.
"My final warning," he announced before dragging Cheng Luiying out of the house.
This is how they got married.
Flashback concludes.
"Yi, may I speak with you? They were sitting at the dining table, enjoying a light breakfast.
"Yeah," he said, wiping his mouth clean.
"The thing is, I have been aning to ask, did my mother actually evade taxes?" Cheng Luiying did not want to bother, but sothing inside her told her she should.
Xin Yi sighed as he looked at his wife, his eyes full of tender affection.
"Your mother really evaded taxes, and as for how I found out, let us just say I have been stalking you and your family for the past few months," his ears turned red as he revealed his secret.
"Stalking?" Cheng Luiying found the situation amusing. She rembered the few tis she went out and felt like soone was following her; it turned out she did have a stalker.
"I also had your mother investigated because I had a feeling sothing was wrong," he admitted once more, and she nodded.
"So, why were you so cold to
at your sister’s wedding?" She smiled as she asked.
He let out an awkward chuckle, "I had assud you had a fiancé, so I could only act that way with you," he replied honestly.
"I have always loved you and will continue to love you," he assured her, and she nodded, her eyes crinkling slightly.
"We need to get ready because Xin Yan and that man are going to join us for lunch."
She gave a nod as she cleared the table. There was no housekeeper or chef, but Cheng Luiying was an excellent cook.
Two hours later, they were on their way to the Xin family ho.
"I will inform my grandparents about our marriage," he told her in the car.
She beca nervous: "Would they like ? They had no idea we were dating in the first place; would they criticize you for marrying
impulsively?"
Cheng Luiying was completely justified in her concern. The Xins’ matriarch and patriarch were pleasant, but they did not tolerate betrayal.
"Let
make one thing clear to you: I did not marry you on a whim; I was in my right mind when I married you," he paused, noticing she was listening intently, which he appreciated.
"And secondly, my grandparents are very nice; they do not care who I get married to as long as she is a good girl, and I know my grandparents have a positive impression of you," he was firm in his words, and she nodded, feeling ecstatic.
They eventually arrived at the Xins’ residence, and the grandparents were surprised to see Cheng Luiying with Xin Yi.
"Why is she here? Grandma Xin looked at Cheng Luiying neutrally.
Her sharp eyes noticed sothing, but she did not ntion it unless her grandson refused to say it. She sensed a romantic atmosphere around them, and her eyes widened with delight.
"Co in, do not just stand at the door," she encouraged them, and they did.
"Grandpa and Grandma, this is my wife, Cheng Luiying," he announced, and both of their eyes widened.
