As soon as they entered the living room, Wei Hongyan couldn’t wait to say, "My mom told your fiancé is incredibly handso. Tell , how did you et?"

Yunyi saw her eager face but, considering Huo Jingrui’s special identity, replied half-truthfully, "We t through friends; it was love at first sight for us."

Wei Hongyan exclaid, "Ah, love at first sight?"

What followed was full of envy.

Yunyi quickly changed the subject. "Tell about your guy. How did you two et?"

Wei Hongyan, with the conversation turning back to her, blushed even more. "It was one of the aunties at work who introduced us; we haven’t been dating for very long."

What Wei Hongyan didn’t say was that both sets of parents were very pleased. As long as they got along, the marriage was almost certain.

Seeing no other activity in the yard, Yunyi asked, "Your eldest brother and sister-in-law haven’t gotten off work and co back yet?"

That’s when Wei Hongyan rembered the important matter. "My sister-in-law’s great-aunt was chasing after her child at ho and accidentally dropped the child. They rushed to the hospital to see her. My mom told to wait for you and invited you to have dinner at our house tonight."

Yunyi glanced at the sky, unsure whether Huo Jingrui would co today or not.

But Auntie Wei must have been busy since the afternoon, and it was hard to refuse. "Alright, then I’ll shalessly tag along with you."

Wei Hongyan laughed. "I wish you would co back once a month! I can also get to enjoy so of the good food then."

After joking around for a while, Yunyi returned to her room. She took out so apples and oranges from her storage space, filling a net bag. "Hongyan, let’s go," she said. "It’s a good chance to try and pick up a few culinary skills from Auntie Wei."

She thought it wasn’t good to arrive just in ti to eat without contributing anything.

Wei Hongyan saw the net bag in Yunyi’s hand. "Why are you bringing things again?"

As she spoke, she tried to take the bag from Yunyi.

Yunyi wasn’t going to let her succeed. "Co on, there aren’t many. I can’t just show up empty-handed and freeload. If you don’t let bring this, then I’m not going over for dinner."

Wei Hongyan had no choice. "Ah, what am I supposed to say to you?"

Yunyi laughed. "Alright then, let’s say no more. Hurry up, or we’ll miss out on learning those cooking skills."

On the other hand, Old Master Qin sighed after learning his grandson’s efforts had co to naught. "I’ve told you from the start, once an engagent is broken, there are no more ties. Didn’t believe , did you? Turning your back on soone in their darkest hour—this result is only to be expected."

His eldest daughter-in-law, Wu Lijuan, said, "I was against ddling in this from the beginning, but soone had to listen. That little girl Chuyunyi, though, is really heartless. Dad, you personally went to plead with her, and she showed you no respect at all, doesn’t understand how to conduct herself with people in the slightest."

Old Master Qin stared at his eldest daughter-in-law’s face with an indescribable look, thinking, How can you have the audacity to say such things? If it weren’t for your insistence on calling off the engagent, would we be in this situation now?

He sighed deeply, suddenly not wanting to speak anymore.

Just then, Qin Honggang, the second son of the Qin Family, hurriedly walked in. "Dad, Eldest Brother, Sister-in-law."

Old Master Qin looked towards the door. "Honggang, why are you back?"

Qin Honggang, his expression very grim, asked, "Dad, did you go to Chuyunyi because of Lijuan’s matter?"

Old Master Qin asked, puzzled, "How did you know?"

Hearing his dad’s reply, Qin Honggang knew it was true. "Dad, you’ve been foolish."

The eldest son, Qin Hongling, feeling displeased, said, "Did you co back just to lecture us?"

Qin Honggang turned his head to his elder brother. "Eldest Brother, at a ti like this, you’re still saying such things! Do you know that Qin Lijuan’s case has been taken over by a specialist? It might be decided in a day or two. Moreover, you all know her case isn’t just about switching babies. There’s also a homicide involved. How could she possibly get off scot-free?"

Qin Hongling couldn’t help but sit up straighter. "What’s going on?"

Old Master Qin didn’t speak, but his gaze never left his second son.

Qin Honggang sighed. "There’s no room for mitigation in Lijuan’s case. You might as well not waste your effort. The higher-ups have given instructions for it to be handled strictly."
