Within a matter of monts, the woman’s face turned deathly pale from the shock of her own bodily condition. She couldn’t fathom how a few thoughtless words had brought her to such a state.

Yunyi didn’t care what she thought, nor what anyone else present thought. Over the years, countless people had suffered injustices because of such offhand remarks. She had not a shred of sympathy for those who spoke without regard for others’ feelings.

After all, only Huo Jingrui knew about her subtle actions. No one else would understand—not even the girl in the opposite bunk who was staring at the immobile woman in total confusion.

The girl wanted to ask but didn’t dare. Instead, she occasionally glanced at Yunyi’s subtle expressions, which thoroughly pleased Yunyi.

It wasn’t until Yunyi and Huo Jingrui had finished breakfast that the woman’s acupoints were released, causing her to collapse to the floor. The girl on the middle bunk, who had been keeping an eye on the situation, was even more bewildered. What in the world is going on?

Previously, the woman had stood stock-still. Now, she had slumped to the ground and, as if struck mute, hadn’t uttered a word for quite so ti. This was highly abnormal.

After regaining so strength, the woman on the ground scrambled up and clumsily hurried away.

When Huo Jingrui returned after washing their al box, the woman had co back with a train attendant. She gathered her belongings and left with the attendant without saying a word.

The girl from the middle bunk had just co down to wash up. She watched the woman leave, then turned her gaze towards Yunyi.

Yunyi just shrugged, feigning ignorance.

She wouldn’t say that the woman was probably too scared to return to her original bunk, Yunyi thought. And who knew how she’d communicated with the train attendant, given her temporary muteness? Did she use gestures, or did she write it down? Still, it’s better this way. With one less eyesore around, they could enjoy so peace.

The rest of the journey was uneventful. Huo Jingrui bustled about, taking good care of Yunyi, which made the girl in the opposite bunk terribly envious. I have to find a husband as considerate as him! she vowed to herself.

After the train arrived at the station, Huo Jingrui escorted Yunyi off. Yunyi was still pondering whether to take a bus or find a three-wheeled taxi back when, just as they exited the station, soone approached and greeted Huo Jingrui, "Huo Lao, didn’t you say you wouldn’t have ti to co back?"

Huo Jingrui laughed and exchanged a friendly punch with the man. "I just happened to have a conference in Beijing, so I ca back."

Yunyi was surprised by how readily he said it and couldn’t help looking at him. It seems the once stern and aloof man has learned to adapt to local customs, she thought. That’s good.

The newcor, seeing Yunyi standing beside Huo Jingrui, gave Huo Jingrui a teasing look.

Huo Jingrui pulled Yunyi closer. "This is my fiancée, Chuyunyi."

The man’s eyes widened. "You’re serious?"

Huo Jingrui shot him a cold look. "Watch your mouth."

Then, turning to Yunyi, he said, "This is Jian Weizhe, a childhood friend of mine. He works for a governnt departnt."

Yunyi offered Jian Weizhe a polite smile. "Hello."

Jian Weizhe reached out to shake Yunyi’s hand, but Huo Jingrui thrust the bag he was carrying into Jian Weizhe’s hands instead. "It’s getting late, and we have things to do."

Jian Weizhe shot Huo Jingrui an aggrieved look. Typical, choosing his partner over his friend, he thought. Am I just their chauffeur now?

But, considering his friend had finally found soone, he still asked attentively, "The car’s parked up front. Where to?"

Huo Jingrui gave Jian Weizhe an address, then, pulling Yunyi along, started walking ahead. He didn’t forget to call back, "Hurry up, don’t dawdle!"
