Huo Jingrui, upon hearing Yunyi’s question, halted with the chicken leg in mid-air, unable to respond for a mont.

When he finally did, he retracted his hand with a slightly awkward gesture. "Well, I just thought you would like it. If not, I can get you sothing else."

Yunyi waved it off with a smile. "No need, I really do love chicken legs."

However, after saying this, Yunyi cautiously voiced her doubts. "If we could descend the mountain by just lighting a few torches, why are we spending a night here before going down?"

Huo Jingrui originally didn’t want to say anything, but fearing she might let down her guard, he lowered his voice. "For such an important matter, the people behind them wouldn’t send just this one group."

Yunyi imdiately understood. "You think soone might be coming to rescue them?"

Huo Jingrui nodded slightly. "This gives them enough ti, and us ti to recover. Most importantly, this is deep in the mountains. If my suspicions are correct, it won’t endanger the villagers below."

Yunyi hadn’t expected Huo Jingrui, a man, to be so considerate.

But that’s not quite right, she thought. Rather than saying he’s considerate, it’s more like he’s gambling.

He’s betting that those people will show up—that the rescue is a facade and silencing them is the real goal.

Afterward, the two of them stopped talking. Yunyi nibbled on her chicken leg, while Huo Jingrui gnawed on two rabbit legs.

Yunyi cast a glance at Huo Jingrui, who ate elegantly, and couldn’t help but be reminded of little details from the past.

Noticing her gaze, Huo Jingrui thought she wanted to try the rabbit leg. "Would you like so?"

Feeling slightly embarrassed by his question, Yunyi quickly shook her head. "No need, I was just thinking about sothing."

Huo Jingrui didn’t inquire further but, seeming to rember sothing, quickly stood up. He took several apricots out of his pocket and handed them to Yunyi. "Here, eat these."

Yunyi accepted them with a smile. "When did you pick these?"

Huo Jingrui lifted the rabbit leg in his hand. "I found these near a wild apricot tree when I was picking up the rabbit. I wasn’t sure if they’d be good, so I just picked a few. They taste alright. You should try them."

Looking at the apricots in her hand, Yunyi broke into a wide grin. "Thanks."

Seeing her happy, a smile also appeared on Huo Jingrui’s lips. He himself was unaware of his unusual behavior.

Rembering sothing, he added, "They’re washed." But after saying it, feeling a bit awkward, he quickly turned his head and resud eating his roast rabbit leg.

Seeing him like this, Yunyi smiled and gently bit into an apricot. "Hmm, it’s a little sour, but it’s a good palate cleanser."

Huo Jingrui didn’t say anything, but the smile in his eyes betrayed his mood.

After they had eaten their fill, Huo Jingrui divided everyone into groups for the night watch and then sat down not far from Yunyi.

Yunyi was leaning against a tree, preparing to ditate with her eyes closed.

Hearing soone approaching, she heard, "May I sit with you?"

Yunyi looked up to see Wei Zijia limping towards her. She was surprised that Wei Zijia had co to her instead of staying with her own companion. However, Yunyi had a fairly good impression of this girl. "Sure, have a seat."

Wei Zijia hadn’t yet recovered and, with the injury to her ankle, hadn’t had a chance to properly thank Yunyi, mainly because she hadn’t found the opportunity.

She had to psych herself up quite a bit before coming over. "Last ti you saved my life, I hadn’t had the chance to properly thank you yet. And now, you’ve saved once more."

Yunyi looked at her with a slight smile. "It seems we’re quite fated."

Wei Zijia returned the smile.

Thinking of the gossip and rumors they would face tomorrow, she couldn’t help but sigh.
