"Really?" Fu Yu suddenly stood up, his hands propped on the desk, his head leaning towards Zhen Yu’s side face.

Zhen Yu was taking out her textbooks for the next class, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw him approaching, and reflexively turned her head to lie down on the desk, creating so distance between them.

Fu Yu paused, exchanged glances with Zhen Yu, who was lying on the desk, his eyes flickering a few tis, and then silently sat back down.

Zhen Yu, hearing the sound of the desk and chair behind her, didn’t move for a while before finally sitting up expressionlessly.

-

The second class was Chinese, and the Chinese teacher, around thirty and rather pretty, was quite long-winded.

The bell rang, and Teacher Cheng, heels clicking, took small steps towards the podium, holding a stack of quiz papers in her arms.

As the Chinese class representative started distributing the papers, Teacher Cheng began her comntary.

"This quiz, ah~ I found that our classmates did not study well during the sumr vacation! There is a clear regression compared to the academic performance!"

"But there are also so students who deserve praise, I want to specifically ntion Zhen Yu~ this quiz~ no essay! She is the only one in our class who scored full marks! Compared to her academic performance..."

"Buzz..." The mont the teacher ntioned Zhen Yu’s na, the classroom suddenly filled with whispers.

Liu Ting turned her head in surprise to look at her, stretching her whole body towards her, "Zhen Yu! What Immortal Pill did you eat during the sumr? How co you’re so fierce as soon as school starts?"

Zhen Yu replied lightly, "I had a realization."

"What?" Liu Ting, not quite understanding and seeing that Zhen Yu had no intention of explaining, turned her head back to ponder in silence.

-

Since it was the first day of classes, there wasn’t much howork, and she finished shortly after dinner.

Zhen Yu and her brother were sitting together in the living room, covering their books.

Zhen Yan, licking his face, ca over, "Little sister, can you cover it for ?"

"Double the howork."

"What?"

"I cover the books, you rewrite the howork. No copying."

Zhen Yan, without any hesitation, said, "I’d better do it myself!"

Seeing that it was just the start of school, Zhen Yu hesitated for half a second but let her brother off.

Tomorrow’s the weekend, she’d add howork for him on Monday.

-

After washing up at night, Zhen Yu lay on her bed analyzing the system.

She had been in classes all day, and with howork ti, her study ti was about 10 hours.

During her self-study of the first year junior high material over the sumr, she could gain less than 10 Knowledge Points per hour, so she should have earned close to 100 Knowledge Points today.

But now, her system only showed an increase of 42 Knowledge Points, which was clearly half of what it should be!

Why is that?

Zhen Yu thought for a long ti, guessing it might be related to three factors.

The first possibility is like playing a sub-ga, the Experience Points fell.

Originally, she was a primary school student, and studying junior high material might be considered difficult; now that she’s in junior high, the difficulty has definitely beco easier, hence less Experience Points.

The second possibility is also like playing a sub-ga, the difference between first pass and farming.

Although she only read through the first year course material during self-study, the first completion might have offered high Experience Points; now studying it a second ti, the Experience Points were reduced.

The third possibility? It’s that she needed to pay attention in class!

The Experience Points gained from listening to lectures versus self-studying might differ! After all, there’s a big difference between being taught and self-studying, just like being carried through a sub-ga by a higher level player.

"Ah..." Zhen Yu sighed softly. The system was mute, offering no hints, and she had to figure everything out on her own.

Although she didn’t know if her guess was correct, as a student, she had to attend classes. It seed that if she wanted to gain more Knowledge Points, she could only rely on reading and self-studying regularly.

-

September 2nd was a Saturday, taking a weekend off on the second day of school, which Zhen Yu found absurd.

Han Mingyue told her yesterday that today, he and his brother would accompany their mother back to her hotown.

So, after having breakfast, Zhen Yu buried herself in reading essay selections at ho.

"Zhen Yu!" Bai Xue burst into the small bedroom like a whirlwind, excitedly pulling her and exclaiming, "It rained last night! Let’s go mushroom picking!"

Zhen Yu: "..."

She didn’t really want to.

Unfortunately, things didn’t shift according to her will, and Zhen Yu was eventually dragged out by Bai Xue.

Zhen Yan and Fu Yu also joined them.

The two girls each carried a small bamboo basket, equipped with a small iron shovel in hand.

-

The northeast weather cooled down in September, each bout of autumn rain bringing a chill.

Siying School’s east mountain wall has a small iron gate that is never locked, nestled between the dormitory and the teacher’s building.

Passing through this gate leads to the land allocated to teachers, where the wheat field shines golden, extending as far as the eye can see.

Walking along the road for less than half an hour would bring one to a vast birch forest, beyond which lay a barren grassland dotted with wildflowers.

With heavy morning dew, the moist air in the forest mixed with a hint of fragrance and coolness, and various mushrooms were at their peak growing season of the year.

The mushroom-picking season here lasts until the end of September at the latest. Once October arrives and the weather turns colder, mushrooms are nearly gone.

Since it was the weekend, there were quite a few people out picking.

Many mushrooms, mostly grey and oily ones, were scattered throughout the grassland, and the group of four dispersed slightly, each moving freely.

Zhen Yu searched and dug while walking, venturing deeper into the woods.

Every now and then, she would see one or two unfamiliar won, also heads bowed, slowly walking.

-

"Sister! Why would a pregnant woman like you co mushroom picking?"

"It’s just the right ti for picking mushrooms~ I’m just craving for this! Stop complaining and start searching!"

While hearing this conversation, Zhen Yu was squatting under a tree digging mushrooms, where there was a small cluster.

After digging up the last one, she stood up.

Turning around, she realized that the approaching figure was Ju Zhen, accompanied by a dark, thin man.

Ju Zhen spoke in a sarcastically twisted tone: "Yo~ if it isn’t Little Yu! So young yet already out picking mushrooms? Life must be tough for a mother and daughter alone, huh?"

Though the words were not pleasant, they weren’t abusive, nor did they involve her mother.

Zhen Yu, considering that Ju Zhen was pregnant, chose not to argue and walked past her.

Her gaze briefly swept over Ju Zhen’s belly, which was slightly bulging but not obviously.

Seeing Zhen Yu leave without a word, Ju Zhen couldn’t help but turn around and sarcastically laughed, shouting, "I’m indeed your stepmother, yet you don’t even greet . Really, you have no manners!"

Zhen Yu didn’t pause her steps at all and quickly disappeared into the woods.

Ju Zhen scoffed, feeling quite discontented.

She was quite feisty when bullying herself! Now she acts timid when she sees her together with her brother!

Ju Ming, with shifty eyes, leaned in and asked his sister, "Sis! Is that Zhen Hailong’s daughter?"

Still infuriated, Ju Zhen replied: "Exactly, the very one he spoils! Surely she was behind the mischief at my wedding day! Sooner or later, I’ll find a chance to get back at her!"

Ju Ming snickered maliciously, "She’s pretty though! Sis, you wait here for a bit, I’ll go teach her a lesson for you!"
