Ling Tianyou looked at Gu Ningyue, saying that it seed as if he could faintly see her tension and panic from those days.

Back then, when she was so young, she must have been scared too, right?

"Do you know? That day was the first ti I realized that there are people who even at the mont of death don’t think they’ve done anything wrong." As the night drew a dark curtain, Gu Ningyue turned on the car light: "I still rember what that man said. He said those who were destroyed because of him deserved it. In this world, fairness is in the hands of the strong. Even to this day, he doesn’t regret it."

"My master was very unhappy then, and handed the knife, but even in front of soone like this, I couldn’t do it. I even made my master get laughed at by such a person because of it. From that day on, I decided to beco a ’bad person’."

Her life was given by her master, and she would be loyal for the rest of her life; she had no complaints and no regrets.

Ling Tianyou asked softly, "Bad person? How bad? There should be an organization behind you, right?"

Otherwise, how could just two won survive until now?

Gu Ningyue didn’t answer, but the silence was tantamount to tacit admission.

"What’s the mark you use to accept tasks?" Ling Tianyou turned his head and continued, "Your organization must have protection, right?"

Gu Ningyue nodded this ti, "The criteria for accepting tasks are set by the top; they are basically those who exploit legal loopholes and cannot be sanctioned. Or those who are hated to an extre, where people would spend a lifeti’s fortune to take their lives. But those require special approval from the top."

"You might not believe it, even compared to country U, our laws are quite sound, but in unseen places, so continue to do evil endlessly."

Ling Tianyou responded softly, "I believe it. I’ve seen plenty over the years."

The Chen Family is among them.

Gu Ningyue turned her head, looking at Ling Tianyou, and asked, "Are you afraid?"

Ling Tianyou was taken aback and asked, "Afraid of what?"

Gu Ningyue laughed at herself and said, "Compared to a psychopath, a killer is more terrifying, right? After all, the latter is always in a clear state."

Ling Tianyou was silent for two seconds. "You won’t. You’ve shed that identity. You can live a normal life now. I believe you won’t be like before."

And I also believe you won’t harm .

Gu Ningyue said nothing, just quietly looking at the road ahead.

Yes! She’s not Gu Weiwei anymore. She doesn’t have to walk the knife edge anymore.

But everything from the past has already been engraved in her mory and cannot be forgotten.

After who knows how long, Gu Ningyue slowly opened her mouth and said, "Fortunately, most of the ti, I was just collecting information I wanted."

"That ti was actually the most exhausting and hard."

Ling Tianyou asked, "When were you happiest?"

Gu Ningyue thought for a while and said, "It should be when I finished a mission, ca ho and saw my master waiting for at ho! I don’t know why, but it just felt very reassuring."

Ling Tianyou was sowhat envious: "How about when you see ?"

Gu Ningyue couldn’t help but laugh, "My master is a woman. You already know this, don’t you? And you’re jealous over this?"

Ling Tianyou’s voice was muffled, "Answer my question first. Don’t dodge the main point."

Gu Ningyue found Ling Tianyou’s child-like sulk amusing: "One is familial love, the other is romantic. You can’t compare the two. I’m quite happy to see you when you’re not being an to ! But when you are, not so much."

Ling Tianyou gave her a sidelong glance, "Do I make you feel unsafe?"

Gu Ningyue shook her head, answering decisively, "Every ti I face the Gu Family, or those people I dislike, as soon as you appear, I know I don’t have to worry, because you’ll protect ."

Hearing this, Ling Tianyou’s tightly furrowed brow finally relaxed a bit, "Glad you know this."

Gu Ningyue offered a faint smile and continued to focus on driving.

As night fell deeper, and after nearly another hour, when Ling Tianyou was nearly restless in his seat, Gu Ningyue finally pulled over onto an open space: "Let’s go! We can’t drive the rest of the way; we can only walk."

Ling Tianyou couldn’t help asking, "Where on earth are you taking ?"

Gu Ningyue smiled mysteriously, "You’ll know when we get there."

With that, Gu Ningyue unbuckled her seatbelt, took her bag, and got out of the car.

She handed one of the two prepared flashlights to Ling Tianyou, the night breeze blowing through her hair, revealing a delicate face.

Ling Tianyou draped his jacket over Gu Ningyue and said with concern, "Don’t catch a cold."

Gu Ningyue glanced at the jacket on her, turned to look at Ling Tianyou who was in a shirt, and asked, "Aren’t you cold?"

Ling Tianyou shrugged, "No, full of youthful energy."

Gu Ningyue chuckled softly, "Aren’t you a middle-aged man by now!"

Ling Tianyou: "..."

Gu Ningyue’s smile at the corners of her mouth grew a bit deeper, naturally taking Ling Tianyou’s hand, "Co on! Let’s go! Otherwise, we won’t make it back before daylight."

Ling Tianyou paused, unable to resist the lift of his own lips, and followed Gu Ningyue with quick steps.

After who knows how long of walking, Ling Tianyou followed Gu Ningyue over a small hill and upon crossing it, saw a dilapidated small town.

At this hour, only a few lights were on, most of the houses steeped in darkness, giving off an inexplicably eerie feeling.

"Where is this?" Ling Tianyou halted, turned his head to look at Gu Ningyue and said, "Is this where you lived before?"

Gu Ningyue nodded, her expression mixed with indiscernible joy or heaviness, and her pace quickened: "Co on! Let’s see if those things are still there."

Gu Ningyue originally thought it would be hard to find her old ho after so many years. But she hadn’t expected that after just another ten minutes of walking, they would arrive at the old house.

Gu Ningyue took a deep breath, turned her head to Ling Tianyou and said, "I lived here when I was small. Back then, a lot of people still lived here, though it was quite chaotic. Didn’t expect in just a few short years, these few people are left."

Ling Tianyou took a look around, just feeling that the chilly wind in the small town made it quite uncomfortable.

"The door is locked, how do we get in?"

Gu Ningyue calmly took a hamr from her bag, and with a few hits broke open the old lock, "And we’re in, aren’t we?"

Ling Tianyou was dumbfounded, "Just how much did you pack in your bag?"

Gu Ningyue smiled mysteriously, not answering his question.
