Gu Ningyue watched as her ntor uncorked the red wine, poured herself a glass after the waiter left, and then filled the other two glasses he had brought, pushing them toward Lin Ruixian and her: "The only thing I can say about the wine at this restaurant—it’s real."
"Rui Xian and Miss Gu, do try so."
Gu Ningyue looked at her ntor’s face: "Teacher Xia, I forgot to ntion earlier, I’m allergic to alcohol and can’t drink."
Xia Yingbai curled his lips: "But Miss Gu, you just ordered a glass of white wine aperitif when you were selecting dishes!"
Gu Ningyue froze, whispering to Lin Ruixian: "Did I really order that?"
Lin Ruixian clenched his fist under the table: "I forgot, what you ordered earlier, White Night’s Journey, is indeed white wine!"
Gu Ningyue’s forehead slowly broke out in sweat. Damn, this ans not only drinking wine but also being misunderstood by her ntor.
Xia Yingbai noticed the subtle changes in their expressions, adding a new layer to his previous doubts.
Between Lin Ruixian and this Miss Gu, there seed to be so things unknown to him.
Whatever it was, it definitely wouldn’t be as simple as Lin Ruixian made it out to be.
"Ning Yue may have mistaken ’White Night’s Journey’ as an ordinary drink, ha... let’s get her a replacent!" Realizing Gu Ningyue was lost for words, Lin Ruixian quickly interjected.
Xia Yingbai swirled his glass of red wine: "Miss Gu seems quite bold, daring to order sothing without knowing what it is."
Without needing to say it, Gu Ningyue knew her ntor didn’t believe Lin Ruixian’s explanation at all.
Damn, it’s too late now!
Gu Ningyue clutched the hem of her dress, wrinkling the delicate lace within seconds.
Just then, Lin Ruixian spoke up: "Teacher Xia, actually, she can drink; it’s just that her tolerance is very low. She didn’t want to disgrace herself in front of you on her first encounter, so I taught her to say this secretly."
Lin Ruixian paused, then sincerely said to Xia Yingbai: "This is my fault!"
Xia Yingbai didn’t speak, his lips held a smile Gu Ningyue was all too familiar with.
Every ti her ntor assessed soone, he wore this kind of smile.
After who knows how long, Xia Yingbai suddenly chuckled: "Rui Xian, you’re protecting soone for the first ti besides Weiwei."
Upon ntioning Gu Weiwei, Lin Ruixian’s face turned red: "Teacher Xia, it’s really not Ning Yue’s fault. She’s very innocent..."
Although he didn’t believe the words himself,
Xia Yingbai observed the blush rising on Lin Ruixian’s bookish face, the smile on his lips gaining so warmth: "No worries, do I really seem that petty? It’s understandable, but it’s best to be direct next ti. A poor first impression can be hard to change."
"Yes." Gu Ningyue nodded quickly, relieved her ntor wasn’t bothered: "Teacher Xia is right, I won’t do this again." Lin Ruixian turned to glance at Gu Ningyue; he hadn’t seen this obsequious side of hers in ages.
If Ling Tianyou were nearby, he’d probably be stunned by Gu Ningyue’s current deanor!
It’s a pity, he wanted to see how Ling Tianyou would react seeing Gu Ningyue’s top-ranked person change completely before Xia Yingbai.
However, regardless of his reaction, it couldn’t be better than his own.
After all, the mories he had with Gu Weiwei back then couldn’t be matched by Ling Tianyou.
Thinking of this, Gu Ningyue’s previous words didn’t sting as much anymore.
"Have a taste!" Xia Yingbai took a sip from his glass of red wine: "A couple of sips shouldn’t be an issue."
Gu Ningyue nodded: "This wine... is indeed nice."
She wanted to say the wine wasn’t as rich as another restaurant’s, but that would definitely arouse her ntor’s suspicion.
So she changed the subject.
Xia Yingbai set his wine glass down, a trace of unnoticeable pain flashing in his eyes: "Too bad Weiwei isn’t here, or else she could accompany for a drink."
"Teacher Xia, I’ve got so new clues about Weiwei’s cause of death." Lin Ruixian said.
Gu Ningyue remained silent, just sitting quietly.
This had been discussed before they ca, Lin Ruixian would tell Xia Yingbai what they had discovered and see if more clues could be garnered.
Xia Yingbai looked at Lin Ruixian and asked: "What?"
Though it was a question, Xia Yingbai’s expression remained calm, clearly unperturbed by what Lin Ruixian was about to reveal.
Lin Ruixian slowly conveyed to Xia Yingbai what Gu Ningyue had previously shared with him. Xia Yingbai showed a hint of surprise: "Gate of Hell? A website like this?"
She had always been searching for clues about Gu Weiwei’s death, only her efforts yielded very limited information.
Perhaps this ti...
Lin Ruixian nodded slightly, then turned the conversation to Gu Ningyue: "Thanks to Ning Yue. Had she not stumbled upon such a site, I wouldn’t have found this clue."
After the recent mishap, it was evident that Lin Ruixian wanted to help rectify her image.
Xia Yingbai addressed Gu Ningyue: "The chance of discovering such a website is one in a thousand, Miss Gu seems quite lucky."
Gu Ningyue’s hand tightened on her wine glass, "Indeed, it was a coincidence. I once had a teacher who taught so skills. I’m not sure if Teacher Xia is aware of the X website, where web experts often take gigs. I registered an account, intending to learn. Unexpectedly, I ca across a post about the Gate of Hell website. Curious, I tried logging in. Surprisingly, given my skill, I managed to enter. Truly lucky."
"Unfortunately, the site is no longer accessible."
Already having displeased Xia Yingbai or given him a bad impression, she couldn’t afford to leave any more ’blemishes.’
After her statent, a waiter arrived pushing a cart, "Here are the dishes ordered by the three of you."
Gu Ningyue took a sip of wine, calming her nervousness.
The al hadn’t even officially begun, yet it felt intimidatingly uneasy.
