As July approached, Yan Wuxu received a report.
This report ca sowhat unexpectedly and quite late, sent over by the Su Family at eleven o’clock at night.
The report was originally intended for Su Qingzhang, but these past few days he had been repeatedly troubled by chest pain, and was already asleep by nine o’clock each night.
In contrast, it was Yan Wuxu who, due to work-related stress, had not yet gone to bed at this ti.
Upon seeing the report, Yan Wuxu’s first reaction was to wake Su Qingzhang. But on a whim, she dismissed the thought and chose to call Fei Qing first.
"Ah Qing," Yan Wuxu sat in the bedroom, speaking with unparalleled calmness, "I’ve got a hold on the Su Family’s weakness."
Indeed, Yan Wuxu had always wanted to find a lever on the Su Family. As the Fei Family’s prestige in Mo City grew, she regretted her past decisions: she shouldn’t have given up Fei Qing so soon, and she certainly shouldn’t have stubbornly stuck to her guns.
The Su Family now seed like an old, indestructible cage, pressing down on her, suffocating her.
"What do you an," Fei Qing yawned, glancing at the ti.
"There has been a water inrush accident at one of the Su Family’s mining areas," Yan Wuxu whispered. The report stated that such accidents had occurred consecutively for several days in the Su Family’s second largest mine located in Jinxi.
"Just a water inrush, the newspapers report these types of incidents at least half of the 365 days in a year," complained Fei Qing, annoyed at being disturbed late at night for such a call. If it was really important, it could wait until tomorrow.
"They’re saying they need to apply for new high-pressure water pumps, and are awaiting approval," Yan Wuxu slowed her voice, but in fact, they had already sent a batch of outdated pumps earlier, which were now proving to be ineffective.
"Then it’s approved," Fei Qing had also been irritated by Yan Wuxu lately, who wouldn’t stop badgering him about Su Family affairs. With Su Qingzhang raising his son, was he supposed to help with official matters too? It was a losing deal for him.
"Are you brainless? I don’t plan to pass this report upwards," Yan Wuxu’s current job was to screen various docunts, to select those that were important and urgent for Su Qingzhang, while she dealt with the rest.
"Wuxu, don’t ss around. These water inrush incidents could be lethal if they get worse," Fei Qing’s drowsiness was scared away by Yan Wuxu’s brazen words.
"I want an accident to happen, and a big one at that. Otherwise, how long do we have to wait until that old geezer dies?" Yan Wuxu watched as the swapped dicine steadily diminished, yet Su Qingzhang’s health didn’t seem to weaken much.
"Alright then," Fei Qing heard the insinuation in Yan Wuxu’s words. If sothing big really happened to the Su Family, Mr. Fei would certainly take joy in kicking them while they were down.
"Then I’ll suppress the matter," Yan Wuxu tore the report into shreds, threw it in the trash can, and feeling a bit uneasy, she tossed the shredded paper into the toilet and flushed it completely away.
The matter was thus suppressed without any divine or mortal knowledge. By the ti Su Qingzhang found out, the accident, which initially caused little damage, had spiraled out of control.
A week later, an oblivious Su Qingzhang received a phone call. It was from the mining area in Jinxi.
"Chairman, there’s been an accident. This morning, a major water inrush accident occurred at the mine," the teary voice on the phone made Su Qingzhang’s hand, which was holding dication, sowhat unstable.
During his years in the mining business, Su Qingzhang had never experienced a major accident. He imdiately cald down, "What’s the situation, explain clearly."
"The whole night shift crew got trapped underground, we’re trying our best to rescue them, most of the folks have been saved, but there are still over a dozen people trapped," the mine manager said, his face dark, shouting loudly.
"How could there be a water inrush? Didn’t I tell you to check all the equipnt, and what about the high-pressure pumps? Didn’t I buy several new pumps for the Jinxi sector?" Su Qingzhang knew the severity of a water inrush. The Su Family’s mines were deep coal seams, the deepest reaching hundreds of ters, equipped not only with essential ventilation facilities but also with top dostic water inrush equipnt.
"It rained a few days ago, and the soil beca loose, we stopped work for a while, but the superiors said we didn’t have the grounds to stop work arbitrarily, they pressured us to rush production, to et the South’s peak of electricity and coal consumption, I heatedly told the guys to continue as usual," the mine manager wished he could tear off his own head, as over a dozen people ant a major accident had occurred.
