Xiao Feng:

Their first eting.

He thought they had killed his grandmother, so he lashed out.

After a torrent of words, the misunderstanding was finally cleared.

But he couldn’t forget this chatterbox and always found himself snapping back at him.

There was no helping it—the guy was just too noisy!

Like a sparrow, chirping nonstop all day.

Honestly, so annoying!

He never expected a grown man to be more gossipy than the village aunties.

No, even the village aunties weren’t as idle as him, chatting about zombies of all things.

He had to admit, he was impressed.

And then, the guy had the nerve to call him "Little Fengzi"!

He wasn’t a eunuch!

What kind of nickna was that?!

This guy clearly needed a lesson.

But at so point, without him around, it felt like sothing was missing.

Even the air seed quieter.

It was... unsettling.

He thought, maybe he was just too lonely.

To actually miss that brat!

How bizarre...

Nie Yizhou:

Why was this red-haired guy so hot-tempered, always snapping at him?

What had he even done to deserve it?

Such a grump!

Still, seeing him angry was kind of amusing.

Before, he’d always talked to himself.

No one ever bothered to respond.

But the truth was, he just felt lonely, so he filled the silence with chatter.

It made the world around him feel lively.

He hated quiet.

Growing up with just his mom, who worked tirelessly to support them, he’d often co ho to an empty house.

At first, he was scared. But knowing his mom was busy, he tried to toughen up.

His solution? Talking to everything in the house.

That way, it felt like every object had a life of its own, keeping him company.

He wasn’t really alone.

As he grew older, he understood better.

Being by himself wasn’t sothing to fear.

But old habits died hard, and he didn’t want to change.

It made him feel safe.

Most people saw his habit as a joke—sothing strange, not worth their ti.

But this was the first ti soone actually responded to everything he said, even if it was just to argue.

The words might’ve been harsh, but it made him inexplicably happy.

Having soone answer back... it felt nice.

After Tong Zhan’s death, the war against the zombies raged on.

The lands of Hua Country were free from the undead nace.

By morning, everyone would return to their respective bases.

Tonight was a celebration—and a farewell.

Bonfires dotted the open field.

Yun Xiaoxiao spared no expense, bringing out plenty of cattle and sheep.

As they feasted on roasted at, they danced around the flas.

"Um, Xiao Feng, there’s sothing I’d like to say to you. Could we talk alone?"

Xiao Feng and Nie Yizhou were about to dig into a roasted lamb when a pretty girl with a ponytail approached.

Her shy gaze lingered on Xiao Feng, admiration practically spilling over.

Xiao Feng was about to refuse when Nie Yizhou suddenly chid in.

"Oho, our Little Fengzi’s quite the charr, huh? Don’t keep the lady waiting—go on!"

He winked exaggeratedly.

Xiao Feng frowned, visibly annoyed.

He locked eyes with Nie Yizhou. "You want to go?"

Nie Yizhou grinned. "Of course! Don’t be rude—she’s waiting!"

Xiao Feng hadn’t planned on going, but Nie Yizhou’s words sparked an inexplicable anger.

He stood abruptly and strode toward a secluded corner.

"Let’s go."

The girl hurried after him, delighted.

The mont they left, Nie Yizhou’s smile faded.

He absently carved into the lamb with his knife, stroke after stroke.

"Did that lamb personally offend you?" Ling Jing remarked.

Mu Yang chuckled. "Not the lamb. He’s just panicking."

At that, Yun Xiaoxiao and Lu Chen both glanced at Nie Yizhou.

Nie Yizhou stiffened. "Who’s panicking?! I’m not! Why would I be?!"

Whether he was trying to convince them or himself, no one knew.

But after that, despite his earlier enthusiasm, he didn’t eat a single bite.

His eyes kept drifting toward where Xiao Feng and the girl had disappeared.

The others pretended not to notice, happily devouring the extra portions.

On the journey back, an odd tension settled.

Nie Yizhou and Xiao Feng, usually inseparable, bickering nonstop, didn’t exchange a single word.

Nie Yizhou, in particular, kept his distance, pestering Ling Jing instead.

Ling Jing sighed. "Why drag into your lovers’ spat?"

Nie Yizhou bristled like a cat with its tail stepped on.

"Lovers?! Don’t talk nonsense! Soone might be signing up to be a live-in son-in-law soon!"

His words dripped with vinegar.

Anyone could tell he was jealous—except him.

Ling Jing gave up.

To avoid collateral damage, he banned Nie Yizhou from his vicinity and stuck close to Lu Chen.

Left with no one to pester, Nie Yizhou plopped down elsewhere.

When his gaze landed on Xiao Feng, he scowled, yanked his hat over his face, and pretended to sleep.

Xiao Feng’s frown deepened.

Finally, they returned to Yun City, the place they’d dread of for over a year.

Their lives had been consud by the war—killing zombies, moving supplies, barely any ti to rest.

Now, at last, they could breathe.

Everyone was visibly relieved.

Except...

Two certain soones.

Nie Yizhou kept up his usual chatter, smiling on the surface.

But those who knew him could tell—it was forced.

Xiao Feng, anwhile, wore his displeasure openly, looking like soone had stolen a fortune from him.

Back at the mountain villa, they split up to clean up and change.

Nie Yizhou had just stripped off his shirt when a knock ca at his door.

"Who is it?"

He pulled it open—and was t with Xiao Feng’s stormy expression.

Imdiately, he tried to shut the door.

But Xiao Feng blocked it with his hand.

"What do you want?" Nie Yizhou muttered.

Xiao Feng’s voice was flat. "Let in."

"Say whatever you need to here." Nie Yizhou refused to budge.

The next second, Xiao Feng forced the door open.

"Hey, you—"

Before Nie Yizhou could finish, the door slamd shut.

And he found himself pinned against it, Xiao Feng standing dangerously close.
