Chapter 984: Chapter 985: Chiang Yuequn Returns

Zou Xiaoling looked over and saw a young man standing there, backpack slung over one shoulder and a travel bag in hand, watching them.

With a height of around 178 or 179 centiters, sporting shoulder-length hair, wearing corduroy trousers and a white pullover sweater, his features were handso. He seed as bright as a ray of sunshine, instantly making the courtyard seem all the more drab by contrast.

She was stunned.

Who was this man?

The object of her dreams had been just like this.

Handso, stylish, and with a neat appearance.

She felt a sudden dreariness, fearing her own image was too unappealing, giving him an utterly dreadful impression, and hastily lowered her head.

Yet Ho Laidi had already started exclaiming exaggeratedly, “Oh my heavens, look who this is! Isn’t this our Yuequn? Oh my, his father, hurry out to welco our dear youngest son!”

Chiang Songtao had been hiding inside the house, pretending not to know about his wife beating his daughter-in-law, but the mont he heard her shout, he rushed out imdiately.

“Yuequn’s back?”

Zou Xiaoling was dumbfounded.

So this was Chiang Yuequn?

This was the man she had once wanted to marry!

But it was her misfortune not to have been successful; she was supposed to have married him!

Now she felt pain not just in her back, from where Ho Laidi had hit her, but also in her heart.

Chiang Yuequn’s return had suddenly quenched Ho Laidi’s anger, and she no longer paid attention to Zou Xiaoling and Chiang Baohe but started fussing over him instead.

“Why didn’t you call ahead to let us know you were coming back? Oh dear, we should clean up your room, and your blankets need so airing out too.”

Ho Laidi was bustling about while Chiang Songtao kept him engaged with questions.

“Where’s your eldest brother staying? Did he secure a job? Why didn’t he co back with you?”

Chiang Yuequn hadn’t been ho for a long ti and now noticed that everything seed more dilapidated than in his mory, and his parents were ever more unkempt, with tattered clothes and hair and complexions that looked unwashed.

Moreover, that woman kept stealing glances at him, her expression odd. Did she think he wouldn’t notice?

Could that be his Second Sister-in-law?

His Second Brother had not looked him in the eye since his return, sitting in a corner with a dark expression, dirtier still, one eye glinting with a sinister light. That appearance was so grotesque it was almost frightening.

If he were to tell anyone that this was his Second Brother, that these people were his family, would he have any dignity left?

“My job is settled. Because of the holiday, the school needs soone to stay on guard since it’s empty, so my eldest brother and the others couldn’t make it back for the New Year,” Chiang Yuequn explained.

“It’s alright if they don’t co back for the New Year,” Chiang Songtao quickly said, “Staying ho every year wasn’t particularly enjoyable anyway, work is more important. Yuequn, you really are capable, you even managed to secure a job for your eldest brother, truly impressive.”

“Heh, after all, I did spend quite a long ti in the city, right? But, father, have those people living in our house left? Do we have enough room?”

Previously during a phone call, Chiang Songtao had ntioned that there were a few university professors staying with them.

If not for that, Chiang Yuequn might not have co ho at all.

“It would have been enough, but today your Second Brother and Second Sister-in-law also ca back, so we’ll need to have a good talk with the professors to see if they could squeeze in a bit.”

It was when this matter ca up that Chiang Songtao began to feel a headache.
