Chapter 936: Chapter 937 Following Them
Director Ye said, “If we don’t go into town, are they not going into town either?”
This road leads into Guan Town, but there’s a fork ahead where we need to turn off, heading towards Jiguan Village.
Even though Jiguan Village is now closed off and inaccessible due to the road being sealed, there’s a Duke Guan Temple over there. The temple is quite large and has been turned into a temporary command center, so that’s where we’re heading.
“They are following us,” Xiao Zhang took another look and said.
“Let’s not worry about them for now, we’ll deal with it when we get to Duke Guan Temple.”
“Eh? Girl, they’re not going into the town! Should we still follow them?” Ji Chunlai was a bit bewildered when he saw the three vehicles ahead turn onto the fork. With such heavy rain, what could they possibly be up to?
“Follow them!”
“But what if we get stopped later? What should we say? I have no idea where that road goes,” said Ji Chunlai, getting nervous.
“Just keep driving,” ca the prompt reply.
Grudgingly, Ji Chunlai bit the bullet and followed the diversion.
From a distance, they could see so lights ahead.
Beyond the lights was nothing but darkness and a veil of rain, obscured from sight.
As they drew closer, Ji Chunlai recognized the place, “Girl, that’s a Duke Guan Temple over there.”
On this rainy night, if the public servants were running to Duke Guan Temple, could there be so situation afoot? What if they, unwittingly following along, stumbled upon so secret?
After the vehicles in front stopped, many team mbers jumped down from the truck and quickly ran into Duke Guan Temple. Then, two team mbers ca running over and stopped them.
Ji Chunlai and Chiang Xiao followed them into Duke Guan Temple first.
The lamps appeared to have been temporarily added, with two more illuminating the interior brightly. They were then brought before Director Ye.
Director Ye was taken aback upon seeing Chiang Xiao.
He had never expected that on such a stormy night, following behind them, the little cargo truck would contain such a bright and beautiful young girl.
Her entrance was almost like a beam of light, making the place feel a lot brighter all of a sudden.
“Who are you? Why are you following us?” he asked.
Chiang Xiao had not t Director Ye before, but she had heard ng Xinian ntion him before as a very loyal and, incidentally, henpecked man.
Though she didn’t know this man was Director Ye, Ji Chunlai was now too nervous to speak, so she stepped forward and said, “My na is Chiang Xiao, I’m here to find ng Xinian.”
“Looking for Officer ng? Do you know ng Xinian?”
Director Ye, though very surprised, believed her words. Except for close friends and family mbers he personally notified, no one else should be aware that ng Xinian was transporting supplies to help the villagers of Jiguan Village evacuate.
“Yes. His na is Ji Chunlai; I hired him to drive
here,” she said.
Upon seeing Xiao Zhang hesitating to speak, Director Ye imdiately questioned, “If you have sothing to say, speak.”
“Director Ye, I’ve seen her before. She ca to Alliance District looking for Officer ng,” Xiao Zhang glanced at Chiang Xiao, “But that was almost two years ago, I hardly recognized her at first.”
Back then, Chiang Xiao had not even turned fourteen yet; now she was almost sixteen. She had matured a lot, her features much more developed, and she had grown taller as well.
With this said, there could be no doubt about Chiang Xiao’s identity, nothing suspicious at all.
Director Ye then curiously looked over Chiang Xiao again and asked, “Xiao Chiang, right? What is your relationship with Officer ng? Did he notify you before he left for this mission?”
