Chapter 1614: Chapter 1616: Grateful to Her

Xie Landi was about to speak when Ye Wanqing quickly interjected, “Yes, soone invited us to dinner. Do you want to join us?”

Qin Xiaojun and the others had eaten before, and besides, the invitation was ant for Ye Wanqing. There was no way they’d be rude enough to tag along uninvited.

“We won’t go. We’ll just grab sothing from the cafeteria later. There’s a lot of howork to do tonight.”

Ye Wanqing hesitated and said awkwardly, “Really not coming? It’s livelier with more people.”

“No, you go ahead. Thanks.” More people might make it lively, but it wasn’t their treat. She couldn’t just speak on behalf of the person inviting them.

Qin Xiaojun and the others turned to leave, busy with their tasks. Ye Wanqing glanced over at them and whispered, “Then I’ll ask Landi to co with .”

“Sure, go ahead.”

Lately, Ye Wanqing had been hanging out with Xie Landi, and Qin Xiaojun and the others didn’t find anything unusual about it.

Xie Landi and Ye Wanqing walked downstairs to the sports field. Unable to hold back, Landi tugged at Wanqing and asked, “Wanqing, why didn’t you tell them the truth?”

“How didn’t I tell the truth?” Ye Wanqing blinked innocently, looking at her with an expression of harmless naivety.

Her pure and innocent deanor softened Xie Landi’s tone despite herself.

“You didn’t tell Xiaojun and Lili that Mr. Deng invited everyone in our dormitory to dinner.” Landi had wanted to speak up earlier, but Wanqing had stopped her.

Ye Wanqing’s eyes suddenly brimd with a hint of redness. “Landi, do you think I deliberately chose not to make it clear? But I did say that soone invited us to dinner. ‘Us’ naturally includes everyone in the dorm. Didn’t you hear Xiaojun just now? They said they have a lot of howork. I couldn’t possibly persuade them to put aside their tasks just to go out for dinner, could I?”

Xie Landi was montarily speechless.

It seed there wasn’t anything wrong with how Wanqing phrased it, after all.

Ye Wanqing clung to her arm again and said in a hushed tone, “Besides,

not being so specific was actually for your sake.”

“For my sake?”

“Mm-hmm. Think about it—Xiaojun and Lili’s families are well-off, aren’t they? They probably wouldn’t understand why you still need to look for work while attending school, right? Later, when you ask Uncle Deng about the job recruitnt, wouldn’t it be easier to talk without Xiaojun and Lili being around?”

Xie Landi froze for a mont. She hadn’t felt there was anything particularly awkward about discussing it in front of Qin Xiaojun and the others, but Wanqing was clearly looking out for her, right?

Ultimately, she had to be thankful to Wanqing.

Ye Wanqing’s intentions were good; she shouldn’t misjudge her.

With that thought, Xie Landi smiled gratefully at Ye Wanqing. “Thank you, Wanqing.”

“No problem. We’re like family. If you don’t know how to bring it up with Uncle Deng later, just focus on your food, and I’ll handle the conversation for you!”

“Alright, thanks so much, Wanqing. I really do get a little nervous talking to him.”

Ye Wanqing thought to herself, Are there any conversations you don’t get nervous about? With your timid, small-minded rustic deanor, you’d embarrass yourself anywhere.

Walking alongside Xie Landi, Ye Wanqing could distinctly feel that all the attention was on her.

Chiang Xiao had no idea that, on the very day she left, Deng Qingjiang had crossed paths with Ye Wanqing, who had rescued Cheng Cheng and brought news about Ah Liu.

By twilight, they arrived in Shitou Town.

All at once, the sprawling brilliance of the sunset bathed the peaceful town in light, leaving them spellbound.
