Chapter 1497: Chapter 1499: Return the Money
Chiang Songhai’s heart was pounding furiously, but on the surface, he maintained an unprecedented calm which managed to conceal the tension within from both Chen Kaijin and Chiang Yuequn.
“Here’s the thing, Little has already been promised in marriage, you both know about this, right?”
Chen Kaijin and Chiang Yuequn both nodded.
Chiang Songhai continued, “Back then in Siyang Village, life was uncomfortable, Yuequn knows about it, we couldn’t get along with his family any longer.”
As he said this, he glanced at Chiang Yuequn.
Feeling sowhat sheepish at Songhai’s words, wasn’t he speaking about his own family?
He was well aware of how his family used to bully Chiang Songhai’s family.
But he quickly said, “Second Uncle, I never did any such things.”
“Hmm,” Chiang Songhai nodded in acknowledgnt and continued, “Because we really couldn’t stay in the village any longer, and since Xinian was working as Supervisor Guard in the city, he suggested we move into the city. He also gave the idea that renting a house was not worth it. Since he and Little will have to have a ho once they’re married, it was his idea to buy this house.”
“This house is worth a hundred thousand yuan!” Chiang Yuequn said impatiently, could it be that the house is still under ng Xinian’s na?
Chiang Songhai said, “A hundred thousand yuan?” He too was shocked upon hearing this, the house is worth a hundred thousand now?
That truly is a trendous amount of money!
No wonder Chen Kaijin’s eyes turned green at the ntion of this house just a mont ago.
His heart sank again, originally thinking of saying that the money for the house was borrowed from ng Xinian, but now hearing that it is worth a hundred thousand, he suddenly didn’t dare take the risk.
What if he said it was borrowed and Deng Qingjiang and Chen Kaijin end up offering to help repay the debt?
All he wanted was to keep the house for Chiang Xiao at any cost, so the words that had reached his lips swiftly changed to: “When we bought it, it only cost us over ten thousand.”
“Wow, Second Uncle, how on earth did you strike such luck? To buy such a house for just over ten thousand?” Chiang Yuequn exclaid.
Chiang Songhai recalled how when Chiang Xiao was going to spend ten thousand on the house a few years ago, he hesitated imnsely, scared of spending such a large sum of money. But back then, Chiang Xiao said that ng Xi claid the property value would go up, promising that the investnt would be worth it. He was sowhat skeptical at the ti, but now, in just a few years, the house’s value had risen to a hundred thousand?
He took a deep breath, feeling nearly unable to digest this information.
“What luck? Who had ten thousand yuan back then?” Chen Kaijin was sowhat more rational; in those days, families having ten thousand yuan were scarce, and ten thousand was a considerable sum.
Chiang Yuequn cald down, “That’s true. But, Second Uncle, no matter what, this house is now very valuable.”
“Dad, was this house bought with the money borrowed from ng Xinian? How much was borrowed? I imagine, with both elders still supporting Chiang Xiao, that must be a lot of pressure, right?” Chen Kaijin’s mind raced as she said, “Chiang Xiao has just started her freshman year, and it’s uncertain how many years it will be before she can marry ng Xi. By the ti she graduates, it will still be many years away. We can’t keep owing ng Xi money; otherwise, Chiang Xiao won’t be able to hold her head high in their family.”
She spoke sensibly, appearing to have Chiang Xiao’s best interests at heart, and then went on to say, “How about this, no matter how much money we owe, I will have Qingjiang think of a way to gather the money and pay them back first.”
