Qian Xiaoshuang snorted, "It looks like you guys have made a contribution this ti. Are you getting promoted? That’s why you’re talking so cheekily."
Yan Kai nodded, "I’ve received word from above. I’m off to the party school for studies next March, and I reckon Gu Junming will be reassigned soon." Going there ans a definite promotion, though it’s likely an administrative post. However, Gu Junming should fare better and might end up leading a field regint, which is sothing he’s longed for.
Yan Kai thought to himself that he, Gu Junming, and Wang Hu used to be on the sa starting line. Now that Wang Hu has been reassigned far away, he’s effectively withdrawn from the race, and Gu Junming has finally surpassed him.
He felt a bit off about it, but considering Gu Junming wrote those flood prevention plans beforehand and even saved soone, it would feel wrong for Yan Kai to be promoted instead. He would just have to wait for the next opportunity.
Qian Xiaoshuang was unaware of his thoughts and said with a laugh, "That’s good news, congratulations!"
"It’s nothing. Let’s go see your dad."
"Huh," Qian Xiaoshuang said urgently, "Why are you in such a rush?" You just held my hand, and now you want to et my dad?
"I’ve heard for ages that your dad is a veteran and I want to learn from him." Yan Kai laughed enthusiastically.
Qian Xiaoshuang blushed. Considering her father’s character, he would surely slap the table and then laugh, saying, "Good! Very good! Get married!"
These two are really giving her a headache!
The neighbors in the courtyard saw Yan Kai and her coming from afar and imdiately gathered around.
Qian Family’s little girl has been a tomboy since young, and the neighbors were curious about what kind of partner she’d find. Who knew she found quite a good one!
Everyone praised this young guy. He’s really impressive, and promising, with a bright future!
Yan Kai said with a smile, "I have many shortcomings and need Comrade Xiaoshuang to correct and criticize ! I really like her. Thanks to the aunties and aunties for taking care of her all these years!"
Qian Xiaoshuang pulled him inside, "Stop babbling." Her face was burning up.
As soon as they entered the house, they t the old man, who was indeed very happy and imdiately insisted they stay for a al at the house.
Then he called Yan Kai’s father, "My daughter and your son are together now, when are they getting married?"
Qian Xiaoshuang was speechless. You’re really that eager to marry off?
After the al, Qian Xiaoshuang’s father was even more satisfied. This son-in-law was really good — he had vision, ability, was older than Qian Xiaoshuang by several years, was mature and steady. Perfect!
Their relationship was acknowledged and smoothly accepted to everyone’s surprise.
If Qian Xiaoshuang hadn’t kept things in check, the wedding date might have been set right then and there.
The next day, Yan Kai filed a report to apply for a marriage house. He needed to secure it ahead of ti and tidy things up.
The Yan Family and Qian Family began preparing wedding supplies.
Qian Xiaoshuang just felt, you’re moving a little too quickly, don’t you think? This pace is a bit hard for to accept.
Yan Kai was quite pleased. Even though this ti it wasn’t as good as Gu Junming, at least he found his wife, so it balanced out!
A couple of days later, Gu Junming was transferred to a new unit and promoted to deputy regint commander.
The courtyard naturally burst into cheerful celebrations. Whether genuinely or sarcastically, everyone found Gu Junming to congratulate him. People commotioned about having him treat them to dinner. Soldiers aren’t that pretentious, so Gu Junming agreed and went ho to tell Sun Chan.
Sun Chan was working on her drawings, and when she heard she said, "How many people will be there?"
"Hmm, seven or eight! All are folks I get along well with. They’ll co over tomorrow evening."
Sun Chan agreed, "Alright. Is there anything they don’t eat that I can avoid when cooking?"
"Nope! These people have been with through thick and thin for years. Just having food is enough. No need to worry. Whatever I like, they eat too. I’ll have my sister co over and help you."
Sun Chan agreed with a smile and continued drawing.
"How’s your relationship with the other army wives?" Gu Junming was a bit concerned.
"It’s okay," Sun Chan laughed. She’d been here for over ten days, and life was relatively peaceful. Since she didn’t go out much, she hadn’t had any conflicts or anything.
When she first arrived, army wives often ca over under the guise of borrowing so soy sauce or a few cloves of garlic to take a look around.
They all praised the house’s decor, and began asking about their financial standings and how much money they had.
Sun Chan simply replied, "This was all prepared by my grandpa. We don’t have much money."
"We heard you attended university and even beca a boss?"
"I’m not a boss, just a worker. I didn’t go to university, just a vocational school, and didn’t even graduate elentary school. I wanted to gain a bit of culture, otherwise I wouldn’t know what to say to you capable and educated ladies."
There were also people asking for loans, and Sun Chan didn’t lend a cent. Most of her money was in the bank, aside from living expenses.
So praised her, naturally others disparaged her. Since she rarely went out to chat, people said she seed aloof. So even brought up her affairs with Yang Yun, saying she bullied her sister so bad she couldn’t return ho, and rumors circulated that she dumped a countryside boyfriend to climb the social ladder — just a scheming woman. There were all sorts of talks.
Sun Chan didn’t care, as long as they didn’t curse her directly, she didn’t mind, knowing she wouldn’t socialize with them anyway.
At night, the couple changed into pajamas, and Gu Junming hugged her shoulders, "Our stuff sent back to our old ho has been received. They wrote a letter saying they hope we’ll have a child soon."
Sun Chan nodded, "Mm. But you’re a leader, so we can only have one child. What if it’s a girl?"
"What’s wrong with that? Girls are great," Gu Junming didn’t mind.
However, Sun Chan was worried, "Your brother had a girl, if we have a girl too..."
"You’re a girl yourself, don’t be prejudiced against girls."
"That’s not what I an. I’m worried your family might be disappointed."
Gu Junming kissed her hair, "I said it doesn’t matter, so it doesn’t matter. Let’s have a beautiful girl like you."
Sun Chan wanted to say sothing, but his kisses silenced her, and they held each other in a tender embrace.
"Take it slow." Sun Chan was a bit nervous, as the walls aren’t soundproofed well, and they didn’t dare make too loud noises. Sotis, when the neighbors’ bed shook, they could hear it.
Gu Junming didn’t care, "What’s there to be afraid of? We’re legal spouses." Just as he was about to unbutton her clothes, they suddenly heard a woman exclaim in surprise in the hallway, followed by the sound of things crashing to the ground. The couple was startled and hurriedly got up, rushing outside.
