At that ti, ng Lingi’s brother, unable to squeeze through the crowd, picked up ng Jingfen’s backpack that had fallen on the ground, unzipped it and as a prank, dumped the contents out. Many things fell to the floor, but most noticeable among them were two bundles of money.

Of those, one big bundle was clearly ten thousand, and the smaller one amounted to at least a thousand more...

ng Qinghua moved quickly to pick up the money and stuffed it into her own handbag, then shouted, "Stop arguing, what’s done is done and can’t be undone. Let’s talk about the compensation ng Jingfen owes Lingi."

Everyone knew that continuing to fight was not to their benefit, so they silently let go and found places to sit.

Once everyone was calm, ng Qinghua spoke coldly, "According to the anonymous letter, Lin Fangwei paid ng Jingfen one hundred thousand because of Lingi’s kidney. ng Jingfen, you have to give that money to Lingi, and besides, you owe her another one hundred thousand for the years of her care and future expenses. That makes it two hundred thousand in total. If you pay, we can consider the matter settled; otherwise, we are going to the police station. And by then, don’t bla us if your family’s Yajun can’t go to college. Bla ng Jingfen for acting so disgustingly."

ng Lingi didn’t want to cry, but tears began to stream down uncontrollably, "It’s just that I was lucky not to die, otherwise, I would be dead. ng Jingfen, how can your conscience be so bad? Aren’t you afraid of retribution?"

ng Jingfen, "..."

Am I not suffering retribution right now?

At that mont, ng Jinhua wished ng Jingfen would die.

But, he couldn’t let her go to jail.

Yajun had said yesterday that he had done very well in his exams.

He couldn’t let the good days that were within reach slip away because of ng Jingfen.

He sighed deeply, "I agree to pay, but we don’t have that much money at the mont. Can we write an IOU first and then pay off gradually?"

ng Jinhua thought that ng Qinghua should agree since Yajun was about to go to college, and in a few years, he would have a good job and definitely be able to repay the money.

ng Qinghua was amused by his words and said ungraciously, "Don’t you have a ready house that can be used for debt settlent? Why would you need to write an IOU? Oh, you better not be too attached to that house. Once your son Yajun becos successful, are you afraid you won’t be able to buy another house?"

ng Qinghua really had her eyes on ng Jinhua’s house, not only because she needed a house, but also because ng Jinhua had bought it from Chuyue at an incredibly low price.

A house bought cheaply should of course be counted cheaply; it couldn’t be valued at market price.

ng Jinhua was doing that math too.

The house was bought cheaply, but its market value was almost double now.

And ng Qinghua would surely only consider its value at the ti of purchase, so while she said it was two hundred thousand, she actually wanted over four hundred thousand.

And yet he couldn’t argue with her.

Nor could he sell it.

Wanhua had died in this house, no one would pay market price for it.

But, there were no other options.

ng Jinhua wiped the sweat from his forehead, troubled, when he saw Yajun shouldering a backpack and heading outside.

He and Fuhongfang hurriedly called out to him, "Where are you going, Yajun? Do you have more classes?"

"Yajun, what nonsense are you carrying in your backpack?"

Yajun opened the door and finally said coldly, "I’ve decided not to go to college. I’m going to work."

He said that and ran off quickly.

ng Jinhua thought to chase after him but then thought better of it and went back inside, closing the door with a "snap" and slapping ng Jingfen hard across the face, "ng Jingfen, why don’t you just die? If you died, all of this would be over."

ng Jinhua truly hoped ng Jingfen would die.

If she died, although their reputation couldn’t be saved, she wouldn’t be convicted, it wouldn’t affect Yajun’s future, and even if their family had to compensate ng Lingi, it wouldn’t have to be this much.
