"The child is lucky to have t you guys. Otherwise, my heart..." Gu Hai patted his chest earnestly.
Xu Qinghe could feel his emotion from the look in his eyes.
"Xiaowu, hurry and bring out the things I’ve brought," Gu Hai said.
The driver, Xiaowu, imdiately started to carry things in from outside, one by one.
A case of Moutai liquor, a case of Baisha cigarettes, a case of frozen rice candy, a case of egg cakes, a case of fruit preserves, and most importantly, a complete set of gold jewelry worth over three thousand.
As item after item was carried into the house, Xu Qinghe frowned.
Gu Hai said, "These gifts surely cannot compare to the affection you have for the child, but they are a token of our gratitude."
"I cannot accept these things. In our hearts, Nianhua is my own daughter, and it’s only right for to raise my own child," Xu Qinghe declined. After thinking it over, he said, "Regarding the matter of acknowledging kin, I still have to ask my wife, so please wait a mont."
As soon as Xu Qinghe stepped out of the door, he saw Hu Aihong and others gathered outside, along with the people from the furniture factory, all waiting.
"Uncle, they didn’t bully you, did they?"
Upon hearing of the trouble, Xu Song hurried over, but seeing that they seed to be talking in the living room and bringing gifts inside one by one, Xu Song didn’t barge in.
He wasn’t sure what was going on, but the people in the village were all saying that the case of Moutai liquor was incredibly expensive, and so were the Baisha cigarettes. Normally, people would buy them by the pack, spending a few bucks per pack, and even they were reluctant to smoke such fine cigarettes.
Even during the New Year, families would only buy a few packs to entertain guests, never daring to buy a whole carton.
But what about these people?
They were carrying them in by the case.
"No worries, Xiaosong. I need you to take a bicycle to the county imdiately, and ask your aunt to co back, and bring Nianji with her," Xu Qinghe told him solemnly.
Xu Song imdiately responded, "Uncle, don’t worry, I’m on it now."
Xu Song said this and went straight back to the factory, mounted his bicycle, and headed for the county.
Half an hour later, Ji Ying, Xu Nianji, who had just been about to deliver goods to South City, and Zhou He along with their half-year-old son, Zhuangzhuang, all arrived back at the village.
When Xu Song left, he spoke unclearly, rely saying that so people had co to the house and brought many gifts.
Ji Ying was suspicious. Hearing Xu Song say that Xu Qinghe wanted her to co ho imdiately, Ji Ying instinctively felt that the visitors ant trouble.
Xu Nianji also shared that sentint, which is why he decided to escort Ji Ying back. Zhou He, worried, insisted on coming along as well, leading to the whole group making their way back to the village en masse.
"That black sedan over there is not cheap; it must cost seventy to eighty thousand to buy," Xu Nianji remarked as soon as he got out of the car, his knowledge broadening with the increased trips he made to South City delivering goods.
"We don’t know anyone that rich, do we?" Ji Ying muttered. The vehicles that usually ca to the furniture factory were pricey too, but those were custors, many of whom were in the furniture business themselves, so it was normal for them to have money.
But this car was here for Xu Nianhua.
"Mom, don’t worry. Since they brought gifts, they likely have no ill intentions. Dad won’t be in trouble. Besides, it’s broad daylight, and there are so many people at ho," Xu Nianji reassured her, but a thought suddenly crossed his mind.
Could it be that Xiaoi’s biological parents had co looking?
They had just found out last year that Xiaoi was not their biological daughter, and now, unexpectedly, people were looking for Xu Nianhua. The likelihood was very high.
