Chapter 831: Chapter 831: The Arm Cannot Twist the Thigh

This woman was none other than Zhang San’s wife.

Early in the morning, she was awakened by a knock on the door. Upon opening it, she found no one around, and while puzzled, she noticed an envelope on the ground.

Before she was married, she had been deeply cherished by her parents and had followed her brother to study for two years; she recognized so characters. Picking up the envelope and looking inside, the letter surprisingly claid that her husband had been killed by Prince Pu, and his body was even hung in front of Prince Pu’s Mansion for public display.

At the sight, how could she endure this? Although her husband had been sowhat of a disappointnt, no matter what was said, he was still the father of her children.

Therefore, she didn’t dare to alarm her elderly mother-in-law, fearing she couldn’t bear the shock; she gathered her deep-sleeping children and hurried them to Prince Pu’s Mansion.

The crowd that was about to leave stopped in their tracks, pricking up their ears to listen to what the woman was saying.

“Oh, wuu wuu wuu! Husband, how could you leave us, a widow and orphans, behind! Your mother is still waiting at ho for you! You let her, with white hair, send off soone with black hair, how am I to explain this to her, ah wuu wuu wuu…!”

The woman cried and spoke, and the few children beside her also started to sob loudly, all of them crying out for their father, looking utterly heart-wrenching.

This imdiately changed everyone’s view of Prince Pu’s Mansion. Just now they were saying that the body belonged to a servant of the mansion, but now, seeing the entire family, old and young, what more could be said?

The steward had no choice but to harden his scalp and continue, “Miss, indeed we have soone called Zhang San in our mansion who has gone missing these past two days, so we assud it was him.”

“Bullshit, the Prince is just seeking revenge. A few days ago, he bribed my husband to go stir up trouble at Qinger Building, but unexpectedly, my husband ssed it up. With no other choice, he had to sell out to the Prince, and this matter has caused an uproar in the Capital. The Prince must be furious with embarrassnt and intentionally had my husband killed,” she claid, anger rising as she spoke louder and louder.

At these words, the crowd erupted in commotion.

“Miss, without proof, I advise you to be cautious in what you say and do.”

The truth was bluntly revealed by the woman, leaving the steward’s face very unsightly.

“How so, you still want to threaten a widow?” The woman was of a strong and unyielding nature.

“Miss, if not for your own sake, think of your family,” the steward deliberately glanced at her few children, his threat clear.

“You…”

Although the woman was angry in her heart, she changed her thoughts, after all, her family, with elders above and children below, all depended on her doing laundry for others to make a living. If she was to suffer, her whole family would be left without a way to survive.

“What do you want?” The woman’s tone softened.

“As the saying goes, the dead cannot be brought back to life. Now that it’s co to this, it would be better to sit down together and talk it over, compensate with so silver, and settle it. How about that?”

“No way, how can a life be asured with silver?”

The steward glanced at the several children beside her, skinny and ragged, with a pained expression, said, “Look at your children, not only are they dressed in tatters, but they do not even have a pair of shoes on their feet. Winter is coming; do you really want them to freeze to death?”

“What exactly do you want?”

“Talking here is not good for anyone to see. Let’s go inside the mansion to sit down and talk things over slowly. We’ll compensate whatever amount is necessary, what do you say?” the steward coaxed gently.

The woman truly had no choice; Prince Pu’s Mansion was among imperial kinsn, and she was but a commoner. An arm could not twist a thigh, so she could only nod her head and agree.

As they spoke here, they intentionally kept their voices low, so no one knew what they were talking about.
