Chapter 683: Chapter 683: Extrely Embarrassing
Xuexue reached out and gently tickled Madam Xie’s nose, teasing her, “Mother, don’t you know how charming you are right now? Father is smitten with you!”
“You little rascal, daring to tease your own mother.” Madam Xie couldn’t help reaching out to touch her cheek, looking coy and playful.
“Enough already, don’t be shy! You’re an old married couple, what’s there to be embarrassed about!”
“Are you still going on about it?” Madam Xie’s face turned red with embarrassnt. She was quite conservative and believed that matters between husband and wife were private and should not be discussed openly.
“Alright, alright! I’ll stop talking about it.” Xuexue raised her hands above her head, surrendering.
The blush on Madam Xie’s face slowly faded away. Suddenly, as if she rembered sothing, she said to Xuexue, “Xuexue, now that you have acknowledged your biological father, you should no longer call your foster father ‘father.’ In prominent households, many things are taken seriously. I’m afraid that soone with ulterior motives might take advantage of this and fabricate stories, which could cause you trouble.”
Having spent ti in a prominent family, Madam Xie was sowhat familiar with the intricacies of life within such households.
Xuexue also thought this was a problem but had yet to co up with a solution.
“Mother is right, your daughter also feels it’s odd.”
Calling two n ‘father’ was fine when they were apart, as it was easy to differentiate between them. But, the thought of a situation where both were present, and calling out ‘father’ would have both responding was mortifying.
Madam Xie thought for a mont and said, “From now on, you’ll call your foster father just that, and call the General ‘father.’ This distinction will be better to avoid unnecessary trouble.”
Xuexue thought this was a good idea and agreed.
Study
Although Situ Yongjie was a military man, he occasionally enjoyed reading books and practicing calligraphy.
He sat in the Taishi Chair with a book in hand, engrossed in his reading.
“Bang!”
A noise ca from the door, and he turned his head to see that Lady Tang, along with two maids, had burst in with great montum.
He was taken aback for a mont. He had never seen Lady Tang in such disarray before. Usually, no matter what happened, she maintained the composure of a seasoned ditator, handling herself with utmost order and decorum.
“Who has upset you to this extent?” Situ Yongjie put the book on the table and asked with surprise.
“In the whole General’s Mansion, only the Old Master has the power to infuriate
this much.” Lady Tang waved dismissively at the two maids behind her, indicating they should leave, as she had so matters to discuss alone with the General.
The two maids bowed and exited, gently closing the door behind them.
“What brings this up?”
“I rember that years ago, the General seed to have promised to promote
to your official wife. Was there such a matter?”
Situ Yongjie furrowed his brow, thinking, “Did I say I would promote you? I can’t seem to recall it.”
Lady Tang was imdiately crestfallen, her eyes filled with disbelief, “Old Master, you can’t do this. How can you forget what you promised
as soon as you turn your back?”
“But I genuinely can’t rember it.”
“Then do you want to promote
or not?”
“I, the General, have been troubled and preoccupied these days. Let’s discuss this so other ti,” Situ Yongjie skillfully dodged the issue with his usual tact.
“Old Master, you can’t keep doing this. Do you know what Xuexue said to
just now? She actually told
that Qinger is a concubine-born daughter, almost made
die of anger. How could she say such a thing? Without the status of an Eldest Legitimate Daughter, who knows if she’ll be able to find a good marriage in the future!”
