Chapter 675: Chapter 675: Scapegoat
“Bang!”
Just at that mont, a loud kicking sound ca from outside, lasting for only a brief mont
But the noise was substantial.
Lady Tang was taken aback, “Xiao Ting, what was that sound just now?”
The two maids by her side had already styled her hair into a beautiful hairbun, embellished with a few delicate pieces of jewelry.
“Madam, it was the sound of a door being kicked. This maid will imdiately go check which reckless dog of a servant dares to disturb madam. Their dog paws must be chopped off,” Xiao Ting cursed angrily, striding towards the door to check.
“What’s this? The servants of the General’s Mansion have no manners, to the point of daring to discipline , the General?” Situ Yongjie, accompanied by several of his subordinates, stord in furiously.
Frightened, Xiao Ting imdiately knelt on the ground: “This servant deserves death, I did not know of the General’s arrival and have greatly offended. Please, General, pardon my offense.”
“Hmph!”
Situ Yongjie ignored Xiao Ting on the ground and turned to Lady Tang with a cold snort: “Lady Tang, I entrusted you with managing the General’s Mansion, but to my dismay, you’ve let it fall into disarray. Servants freely insult their masters; is there no order left at all?”
Smiling, Lady Tang stood up: “My lord, why be angry? The servants just didn’t see you and spoke out of turn. It was an unintended fault, surely forgivable.”
Situ Yongjie stared at her darkly and after a long silence, finally said, “So you an, I am making a big fuss over nothing? That I shouldn’t bla your servant?”
“Everything I have is given by the General. My servants are also the General’s servants. However, the General wishes to punish, please do so,” Lady Tang felt anxious under his stare, her mind racing, trying to figure out what could have gone wrong that led Situ Yongjie to question her with such an accusatory tone.
“It’s good that you understand this principle. I’m asking you, what on earth happened at Qingyuo Pavilion? Why were all the maids removed?”
Lady Tang was taken aback, realizing it was about the little bastard, and she was quite displeased inside, but she dared not show it in front of Situ Yongjie.
“Qingyuo Pavilion is fine, isn’t it? I have sent over a dozen maids to attend to the young miss,” Lady Tang appeared completely clueless, as if she truly didn’t know what had happened.
“Keep pretending, just keep pretending. Don’t make a fool out of . Only you have the power to move the servants around in the General’s Mansion. A dozen servants were withdrawn from Qingyuo Pavilion at once—it must be your doing. I’d never believe otherwise,” he accused.
“My lord, you must not wrong . I have toiled day and night for the General’s Mansion; how could I possibly do such a despicable thing! Even before Xuexue returned to the General’s Mansion, I had people clean the courtyard for her and specially assigned a dozen servants at her disposal. How could I have withdrawn them! There must be so misunderstanding,” Lady Tang cried out in feigned innocence, subtly gesturing to Xiao Ting with her eyes.
Having followed Lady Tang for over a decade, Xiao Ting had co to understand her mistress’s intentions with just a glance.
Now that the affairs at Qingyuo Pavilion were exposed, and the General had co to hold soone accountable personally, there had to be a scapegoat.
Otherwise, it would bode ill for the madam, and if misfortune befell her, the rest of the servants would suffer too. Better to take the bla first. The madam would surely find a way to save her. With this thought, Xiao Ting fell to her knees with a thud: “General, have rcy! This incident has nothing to do with the madam. It was all done by this servant.”
Situ Yongjie knew very well, Xiao Ting was just a scapegoat.
