Chapter 663: Chapter 663 It’s okay to skip one or two als

Madam Xie exhibited her typical peacemaking behavior again, “Xuexue, don’t worry about what Chuner is saying, it’s all nonsense. Your mother hasn’t been mistreated. It’s just cooking, and your mother can handle that. Besides, suffering is a blessing.”

Confused, Xuexue turned her head and asked, “Chuner, tell , what exactly happened?”

Chuner didn’t care about the warning look Madam Xie was giving her, the one telling her not to speak.

She blurted everything out…

It turned out that after Xuexue had gone to sleep, several maids, reportedly personal maids of Lady Tang, had co to the courtyard. They were arrogant and demanded that Madam Xie and the others go to the kitchen to work, declaring that the General’s Mansion did not keep idle people and that if they wanted to eat, they needed to work.

They had just co back from working in the kitchen, utterly exhausted.

Indeed, with hundreds of people in the General’s Mansion to feed, the kitchen was a critical area and naturally had a lot of work. They were already tired from the carriage ride, and after half a day’s work in the kitchen, they had just thought about sitting down to rest when Xuexue appeared.

As expected, this was why Xuexue hadn’t wanted them to co to the Capital in the first place, mainly because she feared they would be implicated.

See, they had co after all.

As the Eldest Legitimate Daughter of the General’s Mansion, Lady Tang could do nothing against her, but she could take it out on the people around her.

Xuexue: “And you guys, after suffering so much, why didn’t you wake

up?”

“As soon as they ca in, they grabbed us and dragged us out; where was the chance to call for you?” Chuner was still very annoyed when she ntioned this.

At the ti, she and her parents were sitting in the living room, eating snacks and cracking jokes, thoroughly enjoying themselves, when suddenly about a dozen maids burst in, seized them without a word, and dragged them away. They were baffled and terrified, not knowing what was happening and their souls nearly scattered, only to find out later that all this fuss was just to take them to work in the kitchen, which finally gave them so relief.

Xuexue: “Dad and Mom, don’t worry. I promise you, from now on, you’ll never have to do heavy chores anymore.”

Madam Xie: “It’s okay, I’m used to doing it, and it doesn’t tire

at all.”

Hearing this, Mo Xiaoqiang imdiately protested: “How can you say it’s not tiring? The kitchen is as big as Xuexue’s courtyard, and the chores seem endless. Just when one batch is done, another begins. I even wonder if we’re being deliberately tornted.”

You certainly are being deliberately tornted!

Xuexue knew it very well but couldn’t explain it clearly to them.

The main reason was her fear of worrying Madam Xie.

Looking around, Xuexue then asked, “What about the maids in the yard? When we arrived this morning, weren’t there a dozen servants here?”

With her head lowered, Madam Xie softly replied, “They said the mansion was short-staffed, and they called them to help in the front hall.”

Nonsense about being short-staffed; it was clearly retaliation for the comnts she made at the General’s door that morning.

“Are you hungry? I’ll go to the kitchen and find us sothing to eat.” Knowing that the maids wouldn’t be called to serve them tonight, Xuexue decided to fend for themselves.

Madam Xie: “Never mind, Xuexue, don’t go. It’s getting late, and there probably isn’t much left in the kitchen. We can handle being hungry for a al or two; we endured much the sa at the Mo family.”

“The Mo family is the Mo family, but this is the General’s Mansion. I, the Eldest Legitimate Daughter, without food to eat—it’d be a joke if word got out.” After saying this, Xuexue walked outside.
