Chapter 620: Chapter 620: Endure a Thousand Cuts
“Visiting?”
Old Lady Mo was sowhat anxious; she feared that these people, failing to acquire the silver, would return to the Mo family to trouble Mo Daoyan, or perhaps smash everything at ho to pieces. Wouldn’t the Mo family suffer a disastrous loss then?
“Xuexue, you must help your grandmother!” Old Lady Mo pleaded with Xuexue, her face mournful and her posture submissive.
Indeed, she had a dozen n by her side who were as fierce as wolves and as rowdy as thugs, all wielding weapons. She was scared to death, far from being able to act arrogantly.
“What’s the matter?” Xuexue feigned ignorance.
With a plaintive tone, Old Lady Mo said, “Our family owes soone twenty taels of silver. Your brother’s education is very costly, and our family simply cannot co up with so much money. Xuexue, could you please give them the twenty taels of silver? If you don’t, they are going to beat your uncle to death.” Having said that, she lowered her head and wiped her tears with her sleeve, a pitiful sight indeed.
Old Lady Mo dared not ntion that Ruan Xinzhi was a fake monk, beaten by Mo Daoyan for extortion, fearing that Xuexue would hold a grudge against them for their previous attempt to plot against the Xie family’s property.
Knowing her purpose, Xuexue remained unmoved, instead spoke innocently, “Why is the debt you owe soone else our family’s business? Grandmother, don’t forget, we’ve already split from the main family, even our household registration is separate. When we left the Mo family, you said that our lives and deaths were no longer related.”
“So what if we’ve split? Does that an there’s no kinship left? I rely spoke out of fury at the ti, surely you can’t take it seriously,” Old Lady Mo blurted out angrily as soon as she heard Xuexue refusing to rescue them.
“Grandmother, you speak to
of kinship, but I rember the last ti, you brought this man over to perform an exorcism on , only to covet our family assets,” Xuexue said bluntly, without giving any face, and turned around, pointing at Ruan Xinzhi.
Ruan Xinzhi and over a dozen n stood aside, waiting for Xuexue to bring out the silver. Last ti, they were too busy pretending and ssing around to take a good look at the Xie Residence. Now, observing it carefully, although the area wasn’t very large, the materials and design were top-notch in Mo Family Village. It was clear that this household was not just anybody.
“I don’t care, give them the twenty taels of silver quickly. If your uncle loses a leg because of this, I will die in your house. I, this old maid, have no will to live,” Old Lady Mo started to throw a tantrum, plopping down on the ground, acting like an utter ruffian.
Xuexue straightened up, turned her head, and looked at her coldly, “Then just die, Grandmother. Rest assured, if you really do die, as your granddaughter, I will definitely pay for the coffin and go to the town to get you a fine one, to bury you with dignity and splendor.”
Upon hearing this, Old Lady Mo burst into curses, “You black-hearted and vicious girl, so cruel, actually cursing your grandmother to die, this is utterly unfilial.”
Ruan Xinzhi, seeing their noisy quarrel and still not getting a single tael of silver, was beginning to lose his patience. In three swift steps he moved forward, grabbed the back of Old Lady Mo’s neck with one hand, and said impatiently, “Old hag, it seems like your granddaughter is not willing to fork out the silver. What do you suggest we do? If you don’t produce the silver soon, do you believe I’ll strangle you right here and now?”
Old Lady Mo found it difficult to breathe as Ruan Xinzhi tightened his grip, frantically struggling with both hands, “Master, spare… my life.”
Ruan Xinzhi only let go of her when he saw Old Lady Mo was almost out of breath and had just a gasp of air left.
Old Lady Mo reached for her neck and gasped heavily, terrified beyond asure. These damned villains really dared to lay hands on her. If they had strangled her a bit longer, her old life would have been over.
