Chapter 520: Chapter 520 Haystack
Shopkeeper Fan held a notebook and a charcoal pencil in his hands as he was busy weighing the waterlons while counting them.
Xuexue also watched from the side. Today’s waterlon harvest had reached the required quantity. After a rough calculation, it was about a cartload, so she stopped and planned to pick more tomorrow to ensure the waterlons’ freshness.
Big Bull strode over and told him that an assistant had helped the village head move the waterlons ho.
“No problem, just shout if you need them to do anything, don’t need to tell ,” Shopkeeper Fan said as he counted, smiling back at Big Bull.
Shopkeeper Fan had always felt that since eting Big Bull and Xuexue, he had started to experience good fortune. The business at Xiaohe Restaurant was thriving more and more, and with the business of waterlons, the silver he made in these few months had multiplied several tis over compared to previous years. He regarded them as nobles in his heart; why would he mind having his assistants help out with so minor tasks?
In less than two hours, the waterlons were fully loaded onto the carriage, and Shopkeeper Fan packed up his things, ready to head back to town.
Coincidentally, the assistant who had helped deliver the waterlons had also returned and climbed onto the horse carriage to return with Shopkeeper Fan.
Shortly after Shopkeeper Fan left, Madam Xie rushed over in a hurry.
“Big Bull, what’s up? Did Shopkeeper Fan leave?” Madam Xie, out of breath, arrived and glanced around, surprised by the emptiness of the field, then asked curiously.
“Yeah! He just left!”
Big Bull looked at Madam Xie, feeling sowhat puzzled. Madam Xie was a diligent farm woman who usually did things efficiently; why had she co to the field so late today? However, he dismissed the thought, assuming sothing at ho had held her up, without giving it much thought.
“You must be tired, right? You’ve really worked hard. Big Aunt will go back and cook sothing tasty for you,” Madam Xie said sowhat apologetically, feeling embarrassed that as an elder, she hadn’t led by example in the field work, letting the two younger people toil instead.
Xuexue casually asked, “Mom, why did you co so late today? It’s almost noon.”
Madam Xie smiled, “I rembered I hadn’t fed the pigs after hanging the clothes to dry, and then I realized there was no pig feed, so I had to cook so. You know, one thing led to another, and here I am.”
Of course, she didn’t dare to ntion that Old Lady Mo had asked her to deliver the waterlons to the Mo family, and she had ended up doing all the household chores there, cooked lunch, and only then was she allowed to leave the house.
“Oh!”
Xuexue nodded, not saying anything more. People from farm families were like that, always having lots of miscellaneous things to take care of at ho, and she understood that very well.
“Where is Chuner?” Madam Xie looked around, not spotting Chuner’s small figure, and felt curious as she had clearly seen her co to the field with doggy in the morning.
Xuexue raised her arm and pointed to a pile of dry grass not far away, laughing, “They are over there, the two little ones.”
It turned out the two little ones found the sun too harsh and had constructed a small hut made from dry grass, and were hiding inside eating waterlon!
“Those two little ones sure know how to enjoy themselves,” Madam Xie laughed and shook her head, then shouted loudly towards the pile of grass, “Chuner, doggy, ti to go ho!”
“Yeah!”
Indeed, Chuner’s crisp voice ca from inside the dry grass pile, and soon after, a little head poked out. Pouting, clearly unhappy, she said, “Mom, why do we have to go so soon? Xiao Gougou and I don’t want to leave yet!”
Xiao Gougou’s head also appeared, as he climbed out from the pile of grass.
The two little ones had been playing ‘house,’ thoroughly enjoying themselves, only to be interrupted by Madam Xie, sowhat reluctant to leave.
