Chapter 375: Chapter 375: Going to the County Town
“Wife, don’t worry, it’ll be alright, we’re going to earn Silver, a big sum of Silver to bring back, so you won’t have to work so hard anymore,” Big Bull said with a smile.
“Are you silly? Is Silver from the governnt office that easy to earn?” Xuexue whispered.
“Leave it to ,” Big Bull patted his chest in assurance.
Xuexue thought for a mont, the tiger had been killed by Big Bull, so he had the right to decide, didn’t he? She nodded in agreent, “Alright then.”
The village head had been paying attention to their discussion all the while. Seeing Xuexue concede, he asked, “Have you two reached a decision?”
Big Bull nodded, “Yes, yes, we’re going to claim the reward.”
Once the matter appeared settled, the village head stood up and instructed, “Alright! Since it’s decided, then tomorrow morning, bring the tiger and wait for
under the elm tree at the village entrance. We’ll go to the County Yan together to claim the reward.”
Madam Xie thanked him profusely, “Thank you, village head.”
“Hmm!” With everything said, the village head took his leave and headed ho. Madam Xie walked him to the door and even sneakily slipped him a wild rabbit.
Since the rabbit was wrapped in a paper bag, the village head couldn’t see what it was and asked, “Aunt Xie, what’s this?”
“It’s a wild rabbit that Big Bull caught today. I’m sending it for you to taste, it’s not worth much.”
“Oh! Alright then.”
The village head, considering that Madam Xie’s family’s living conditions were getting better and a wild rabbit wasn’t a significant item for them, took it and reminded her once more to have Xuexue and Big Bull co a bit earlier tomorrow. After all, the County Yan was half the journey further than the towns, if they didn’t leave early, they might worry about not being able to return by night.
“Eh! Alright!”
Madam Xie agreed and watched the village head leave until he was out of sight, then she returned to the yard.
As night began to fall, the crowds of villagers who had gathered to watch gradually dispersed. A few gossiping won lingered, unwilling to leave.
Seeing this, Xuexue said, “Aunties, it’s getting dark, you should hurry ho to cook and rest, if you delay any longer, you will be wasting money on lamp oil.”
With her reminder, the won suddenly ca to their senses, looked at each other, nodding, “Eh! That’s right, oh dear! We can’t afford to miss out, just got carried away with the excitent and forgot the ti.”
“Exactly, let’s hurry ho. I still have my mother-in-law at ho. If dinner’s late today and we waste lamp oil and firewood, I’ll surely be in for a scolding,” said one of the won, who promptly ran off as swiftly as smoke, a telling sign of the oppression she suffered from her mother-in-law.
The remaining won, thinking she had a point, slipped away quickly, scattering in all directions.
Indeed, in the countryside, daughters-in-law were severely oppressed by their mothers-in-law. A bit of laziness in household duties would result in a scolding so ferocious that the whole village would hear of it. Anyone with a bit of self-respect couldn’t bear the loss of face, hence the rush to get ho seed only natural.
When they had all left, Big Bull carried the tiger back inside the house to prepare for tomorrow’s trip to the County Yan to claim the reward.
It was now sumr, and the weather was getting hotter. Worried that the tiger would spoil, Xuexue followed Big Bull into the room.
After setting down the tiger, Big Bull turned around and saw Xuexue coming in, a bit surprised, “Wife, do you need sothing?”
“I’m worried the tiger might spoil. How about we put it in the ‘space’?”
Big Bull thought she had a point, as things stored in the ‘space’ wouldn’t decay, and it would be such a waste not to make use of such a treasure, so he said, “Okay! You always think of everything, wife.”
Soon, Xuexue stored the tiger in the ‘space’, and she walked back out of the room with Big Bull.
Madam Xie was in the yard plucking rabbit fur. Seeing them co out, she looked up and said, “The village head told you to go to the village entrance a bit earlier tomorrow.”
