Late at night, the moonlight was hazy and a gentle breeze caressed the air.
The Mo Family Village was silent. Now that the spring planting was over, there was not much to do. The villagers, accustod to frugality, all went to bed early to save so lamp oil.
Under the cover of night, two sneaky figures quietly approached the Li family’s courtyard, ready to scale the wall and enter.
Inside the house
Big Bull, who had already been sound asleep, suddenly opened his eyes wide and perked up his ears, listening alertly to the noises outside.

“Shush! Do you want to die? Why are you so loud? Do you want to wake them all up?” Erlaizi hissed, cursing softly.
“I… I… It’s my first ti doing this, I forgot we are at soone else’s house.” Crooked Mouth said, embarrassed, offering a sheepish smile.
“Crooked Mouth, no offense, but if you keep chickening out over little things, you’ll never make it big, understand?”
“Yes, Brother Erlai is right.”
As it turned out, these two were Tuantuan from the village and his no-good buddy Crooked Mouth. During the day, after seeing Big Bull bring back so many wild boars, and all the villagers buying them, they, with not a single Copper Coin in their pockets, could only watch enviously. Jealous beyond asure, they decided, if they could steal a wild boar and sell it in town, they could make a decent amount of Silver. Thus, under the cover of night, the two sneakily made their move.
The pair skillfully climbed over the wall into the Li family’s vast courtyard and started searching the house. However, the Li family’s residence was so large they checked several rooms and found not a single pig hair, driving them into a panicked frenzy.
In her slumber, Xuexue heard Xiao Taohong repeatedly calling her, “Master, master, wake up, please.”
“What’s wrong?” a sleepy voice asked.
“There are thieves in the house.”
“So what? Let them be.” Xuexue was utterly unconcerned and continued to snore loudly; she had stored all her wild boar at in a “space,” secure in the knowledge they couldn’t steal it.
Faced with such a careless master, Xiao Taohong felt helpless.
“Should I go scare them?”
“Go ahead.”
Xuexue turned over and fell back asleep.
“Okay!”
Xiao Taohong drifted out of the room. After all, she was a ghost, and the night was the best ti for her to play; these two thieves would just be her toys.
Erlaizi and Crooked Mouth were exhausted, but with no wild boar at in sight and not wanting to leave empty-handed, they found themselves in a dilemma. Just then, a faint glow drifted towards them.
“Brother Erlai, what do you think that glowing thing is?”
“If it’s glowing, what else could it be but Fireflies!” Erlaizi snapped, impatient. They had been in the Li family’s house for so long without even a glimpse of pork; he had no interest in Fireflies. Really, Crooked Mouth was so unreliable.
“No… it’s not, it… it moves.”
“Isn’t that obvious? Fireflies obviously move.”
Erlaizi didn’t even look up as he continued searching for wild boar at, completely unaware that Crooked Mouth was staring ahead, terrified, his eyes wide and mouth agape.
“What is Big Brother looking for?” In the quiet of the night, a sweet voice sounded, quite abruptly.
In the darkness, Erlaizi felt a cold, small hand touch his shoulder.
