Chapter 659: Chapter 177: Taking Office Imdiately

Breathing the unique air filled with the sharp chill of the snow-capped mountains’ frosty breath, Anvis slowly got up and walked to the edge of the terrace, then leaped out.

Below his feet, invisible Wind Elents transford into stairs, gently supporting him, and brought him to the large arched window of the Duke’s study.

“Who’s there?”

Despite Anvis making every effort to conceal his presence, Duke Carrot in the study still noticed sothing odd outside the window at close range.

Seeing this, Anvis did not hide but gently knocked on the window, gesturing for the Duke to let him in.

“Anvis…? Shouldn’t you be at Pamir Academy now?”

Inside the study, Duke Carrot lifted his head from the piles of docunts, casting a puzzled look at the suddenly appearing figure of Anvis. He also waved his hand, lifting the Protection Magic on the window.

“You are right, my lord father, and indeed, there is another ‘’ currently studying peacefully at Pamir Academy.”

His body dematerializing into the study, Anvis bowed slightly to the Duke as a greeting.

“Are you sure this won’t cause any problems?”

The Duke paused slightly, and then understood what Anvis ant. It was nothing but a doppelganger or so similar effect Spell, but in the Duke’s view, employing such practices at Pamir Academy carried significant risks.

“In your opinion, am I speaking to you in person right now, or did I simply arrange for a doppelganger to secretly return?”

Facing the Duke’s blue eyes, Anvis remained composed.

“I understand now, this must be so sort of unusual adventure for you.”

After carefully observing Anvis’s body, the Duke nodded in realization.

“Although it’s hard to confirm, I think this is your doppelganger.”

The Magic Power aura on Anvis was not strong, only Fifth Rank, which made it difficult for him to discern the true from the false montarily.

However, since Pamir Academy was covered by the brilliant Mystery Lock, it would be difficult for Anvis to deceive the long-term detection of the Mystery Lock with his thods. Therefore, in the Duke’s view, it was more likely that Anvis’s original body was still living normally in the Academy, just that he had arranged for a doppelganger to secretly return.

“Your insight is always so sharp, my lord father.”

Anvis complinted naturally, since the Duke could not differentiate anyway, it ant he was indeed the doppelganger now.

“Coming to my study in the middle of the night like this, tell , what is your purpose?”

Nodding his head, Duke Carrot did not dwell on this matter further, but instead directly asked Anvis about his intentions.

“The thing is, I heard at the Academy about Fiona’s upcoming appointnt as a Lord.”

After a mont of thought, Anvis finally stated his purpose.

“So, I made a special trip overnight to apply for the position of Fiona’s Deputy.”

“To beco Fiona’s Deputy? Are you serious, Anvis?”

Duke Carrot’s eyebrows furrowed, and he waved his hand, directly sweeping the docunts that were obstructing between them into the Subspace.

At the sa ti, he leaned slightly forward, his blue eyes intensely staring into Anvis’s eyes, seemingly trying to directly read the thoughts in his young son’s mind.

The position of Lord Deputy is quite special in this world.

Because the key to becoming a Lord in this world is possessing absolute martial power, under this premise, the Lord must be the strongest in the entire domain.

However, most High Rank Professionals actually are not keen on administering the domains, preferring to spend their ti practicing, researching magic, and attending various extravagant parties instead.

So, they needed a deputy skilled in governing a territory; soone to help them manage the land, similar to a steward handling daily affairs in a castle.

Lords only make major decisions and ensure the rule and stability of their territories through their own martial prowess. The Lord Deputies, on the other hand, are expected to strategize for them and to handle the everyday miscellaneous matters of the lands.

For this reason, a Lord Deputy may hold significant power, but correspondingly, their own training ti is greatly diminished by the affairs of the territory.

In Duke Carrot’s opinion, Anvis becoming a Lord Deputy was a totally unworthy trade-off.

Because no matter how Fiona’s territory is governed, it essentially ans nothing to the Olivendi Family. However, if Anvis’s strength increases slowly because of this, even a little, it would be a considerable loss for the family.

After all, in this world, the real power still lies with the top-tier strong.

“I must ask you, Anvis, do you truly understand why the family suddenly appointed her as a Lord at this ti?”

“I think it is to lure those enemies who want to strike at Fiona, right?”

Facing Duke Carrot’s pressing question, Anvis responded calmly.

“There must be a terrifying defense network laid around Fiona, just waiting for the enemy to trespass so it can imdiately close in. It shows the other potential enemies of the Empire the painful price of targeting Fiona.”

“Now that you understand this, then why, Anvis? Give a reason!”

Anvis’s answer was completely correct; the Duke leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, sowhat puzzled as to what Anvis’s true intentions could be.

“You should know, father, I am a Prophet, and in my prophecy, Fiona’s appointnt as a Lord is going to bring about unprecedented radical changes for the Gloria Empire.

The process of helping Fiona govern her territory can bring to a massive force of feedback from fate, which is incomparable to normal daily training.”

“Fate? I understand…”

Upon hearing this response, Duke Carrot was sowhat at a loss for words. He wasn’t familiar with the intricacies of the Prediction School, but indeed the family Prophet had ntioned that the state of the Net of Destiny had been peculiar lately, possibly indicating that sothing major would happen soon in the Empire.

Considering the close relationship between Anvis and Fiona, he might have foreseen sothing.

Thinking this, Duke Carrot no longer tried to stop him; after all, it was but a clone returning ho with Anvis, and it wouldn’t matter much if sothing went awry.

Thus, on the next day, Fiona, the soon-to-be-appointed, was delightfully surprised when she learned from the Duke that Anvis had secretly returned last night and would serve as her deputy to help her manage the territory.

For the young girl who was still sowhat confused and unprepared to be a Lord, this was undoubtedly a great comfort.

“Brother, you’re back?! Thank you for coming to help !”

Upon seeing Anvis, clad in a black cloak with a hood half covering his face, although his outfit was a bit strange, Fiona still warmly embraced him.

From childhood, Anvis had always been superior to her in many aspects, except his training talent, and she had yet to see anything that could stump her big brother.

Just last night, the small girl had been by the window, wishing upon the stars that if she could get help from Anvis, even soone as inexperienced as her could manage the territory well and beco a competent Lord.

The two little ones seed a bit wilted, curled up next to her; Fiona had been too nervous to sleep last night, consequently forcing them to stay up with her making wishes.

“Keep it down, Fei, I’ve returned in secret this ti, and it’s inconvenient to reveal my identity. So from now on, I will be serving as your deputy under the identity of a Fifth Rank Ice Mage, Levin Boli—make sure not to get it wrong.”

Watching the joyful girl, Anvis gave a gentle smile.

“Let’s set off then, my dear Lord Fiona—”

On the way to Silver Gull City in a flying carriage, a symbol of rank, Fiona was humming the tune of an elven nocturne in high spirits, also unconsciously clutching a fluffy white cute talisman over her chest.

On the side, looking at the “lucky rabbit’s foot” Fiona was holding, Anvis’s mood was sowhat complex.
