Qi Yuqing had been working in the operating room for nearly six hours today, with a total of two surgeries, and felt utterly exhausted.

She changed clothes, having been busy in the ergency departnt for two consecutive days and nights.

Finally, she could go ho at one o’clock tonight.

She didn’t like to dress up, opting for simple jeans and a plaid shirt, with a jacket on the outside since the weather was still unstable.

It felt like sumr at noon and winter at night.

Her hair was casually clipped up with a hairpin, making her feel fresher than letting it down; what she needed now was to catch her breath and sleep well once she got back.

The mont she stepped onto the street at night, she realized that the temperature was indeed uncomfortable, at least still cold.

She tightened her clothes and quickened her pace.

Recently, the news reported attackers specifically targeting won alone at night for robbery and murder.

She cautiously glanced around; under the dim streetlights, the street seed quiet as if she were the only person in the world.

She shivered.

If only Bai Song were here, his face sprang to mind alongside an unusual sense of unease.

His angular face and penetrating eyes combined to form the image of a macho man in a sweat-drenched crew neck shirt.

His real charm lay in his friendly personality, which was completely out of place with his rugged face.

But what was she thinking!

Shouldn’t she be more concerned about her safety at this mont?

She felt embarrassed, allowing herself to be so distracted by a man.

She knew her infatuation with him wouldn’t lead to any outco, making it stupid to waste ti on yearning for him.

Of course, she couldn’t deny having loved him.

Qi Yuqing shook her head, trying hard to brush off those thoughts; there was no longer any possibility for them, not even a hint of hesitation or the slightest looking back from that man.

Even though she had tried hard to give everything up for him.

Forget it!

Let the past be the past.

She quickened her pace.

Not wasting ti; more than anything, she just wanted to sleep.

Getting ho and falling asleep exhausted: that’s all she wanted to do.

Of course, it would be even better if it were raining outside.

Falling asleep to the sound of rain is one of life’s great pleasures.

As if responding to her feelings, raindrops began to fall.

Qi Yuqing put on the hood of her jacket and continued forward.

A bit of rain wouldn’t hurt.

The streetlights in the corner illuminated the road, but the night was still deep.

Drizzles kept falling, making her mutter a few words without realizing.

She wouldn’t admit those were curses.

Qi Yuqing tried to stay alert, a hint of nervousness she was unwilling to acknowledge.

Suddenly, a tall, dark figure appeared not far behind her.

Could she be this unlucky?

While quickening her steps, she reached into her bag to feel for sothing for self-defense, ending up with a bottle of dical alcohol.

Heaven knows why she had this in her bag.

It was ant for the neighbor’s son, a kid who often got into fights and whose stepmother rarely paid attention to him.

A bottle from her house had already gone to the little guy.

This bottle was bought two days ago on the way to work.

Just another street and she’d reach ho.

There was a security guard at her place, ensuring her safety.

Yet this street not only had a broken streetlight, but also was utterly empty.

No sound all around.

Then she hurriedly increased her pace, almost breaking into a run.

When a strong gust blew from behind, the only thought in her mind was the won who were robbed and killed, all hamred to death.

Instantly, she sprang forward, rembering how she rolled upon landing, then hearing soone being tackled from behind.

A series of chaotic noises, leaving her unclear about what happened.

She pressed against the wall, engulfed in darkness, not daring to move.

Five minutes later.

She was calm, neither jumping up and down nor shouting loudly; calmness that even surprised herself.

Indeed, due to adrenaline, her whole body was trembling, her eyes teary yet no tears fell.

"Hello, we are the police!"

One of three people spoke to her.

The other two pinned a man to the ground, and a sinister-looking hamr lay tossed into a puddle under the streetlight.

Sighted by Qi Yuqing, causing chills down her spine.

Dark, brownish stains on it, unsure if they were bloodstains.

The police scanned the empty street with vigilant gazes.

Possibly in search of more suspicious individuals.

"Hello, I’m Qi Yuqing! A doctor at Renhe Hospital’s surgery departnt."

She suddenly wondered if she was too composed as a victim facing the police at this mont!

Sure enough, the policeman seed taken aback by her silence, hesitating briefly before speaking.

"We need you to co to the station for a statent. This man is a suspect in two cases, and if we hadn’t been lying in wait here, you might have been the third victim."

The officer was very polite.

Attempting to overlook Qi Yuqing still trembling.

Could she refuse?

She nodded.

A few minutes later, two more vehicles arrived.

Lights flashed non-stop.

Suddenly, many police officers appeared.

Soone draped a blanket over her as her trembling beca unmistakably apparent.

Then she heard several voices nearby.

"Is she alright?"

Soone inquired.

Qi Yuqing tried to remain composed, "I’m fine."

She was tired, terrified.

Thinking she almost beca a robbery victim sickened her.

The rain kept pouring down; its sound made her feel exhausted.

The constant flashing around made her head ache.

The police looked even more worn out, finally taking her into the car.

They took her to the police station.

Upon looking up, she saw him.

She never expected to et him again this way.

Especially in Capital City!

A city with a population exceeding tens of millions.

Three years without any encounters, and yet at this very mont, they t.

She hadn’t even seen him yet but recognized his voice.

Luckily, when his voice reached her ears, I was in the office, while he was outside talking to a group of officers, giving her a bit of ti to prepare before facing him.

Indeed, it was him.

Bai Song!

Unexpectedly, he was now the captain of a criminal investigation team.

Probably; he had always been serious about work.

She recalled the first ti she saw him, back when he was still with Bai Xiao, feeling all instincts awaken, telling her this was the man she wanted.

Seeing him made her heart flutter uncontrollably.

Especially with the way he gazed at her, so intensely focused it felt earnest.

Looking back, she had always been proactive, to an incredible degree, despite being outgoing, Qi Yuqing was not open.

To go this far for a man was a decisive move.

Like a moth attracted to fla.

Yet the final outco...!

Qi Yuqing extinguished the sparks in her heart.
