"Don’t cry, I’ll go find Ruohan. How can this bastard hit you like this? Wait here! I’ll go to him." Shang Feng stood up and stord out without looking back.
Shang Kaiwen hadn’t had ti to call Shang Feng back, and he was already gone.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
Luckily, her own father was still supportive.
Otherwise, she’d truly have nowhere to turn.
She watched as dusk gradually descended outside the window. Maybe soon she’d be back ho, where tonight she wouldn’t be startled awake by nightmares, perhaps she could finally have a peaceful sleep.
She didn’t want to stay here for another minute.
Thankfully, thankfully.
Shang Feng swept into the downstairs living room like a gust of wind.
His speed was hard to believe for soone over fifty, and the fury and gloom on his face foreshadowed an approaching storm.
Ruohan was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper when he saw Shang Feng storm towards him.
A slap scattered the newspaper in front of him. If Ruohan hadn’t leaned back, the slap might have landed on his face.
The two bodyguards moved faster, each grabbing an arm and twisting it behind Shang Feng, pressing him onto the glass coffee table. If they hadn’t been sowhat restrained, Shang Feng would have smashed his head against the table’s glass.
The enraged Shang Feng shouted at Ruohan, "Ruohan, what do you want? You dare let soone hit your father-in-law? Is there no law left? You think you can cover the sky with one hand here?"
He hadn’t expected Ruohan would take physical action against him! This was unexpected. Otherwise, Shang Feng would never have acted, putting himself at a disadvantage.
Ruohan released the newspaper from his hand and reached out to pat Shang Feng’s face, "Help my father-in-law sit up straight; don’t hurt the old man. After all, he’s my wife’s own father."
Following his command, the two bodyguards flipped Shang Feng onto the sofa, each holding his shoulders. Shang Feng finally started breathing evenly, his chest heaving like a bellows. Shang Feng was sowhat furious; Ruohan daring to land a hand on his father-in-law was truly rare.
"Sir, let’s just talk properly. I was waiting for you to co down to talk to . Why get so angry? Can’t we talk this out? I didn’t actually want to take action, I prefer to resolve things with virtue. Dad, have you cald down now? If you have, let’s talk, and I’ll have them release you."
Ruohan’s deanor was unaffected, as if he wasn’t the one doing these actions, unperturbed in the face of a major crisis.
Shang Feng shrugged, pulling his shoulders from the bodyguards’ grip. In truth, they had already received Ruohan’s signal; otherwise, Shang Feng wouldn’t have been able to overco them with his little strength. Standing quietly behind Shang Feng, they crossed their arms in front, and Shang Feng understood what that ant.
If he dared move rashly again, he’d face the sa outco.
Confronted with absolute power, Shang Feng was no match.
"What do you want to say? My daughter married you, is this how you cherish her? What did you promise last ti? Didn’t you say you’d love her like a princess? Is this your love? I want to take Kaiwen back; the child must be terrified."
Ruohan shook his head and waved his hand, "Father-in-law, Kaiwen is now my wife, and I will certainly take good care of her myself. I have the best private doctor here, the best dicine, not even a trace will be left. I said I’d take care of her like a princess, haven’t I done so?
Look at your company, hasn’t it received my investnt? There’s also the billion-dollar project plan I handed to you; every project’s profit is no small number. And as for Kaiwen, look at what she eats and wears, aren’t they all the best? She loves lobster, so I arranged for soone to fly it in from abroad on a private plane, perfectly fresh on the table. The clothes and bags she loves, aren’t they worth at least tens or hundreds of thousands? Have I ever neglected her in any way?"
Shang Feng softened, indeed Ruohan was right, he treated Shang Kaiwen well, almost like holding her in the palm of his hand. Everyone outside knew Ruohan adored this wife to an extre, almost granting her every wish and sparing no expense for anything good for his wife.
There’s nothing false about it, and for this reason, many companies outside were convinced of Shang Family’s turnaround.
"But why did you hit her? So harshly! She’s a girl, pampered her entire life, and I’ve never laid a finger on her. How could you hit anyone?" His tone was noticeably softer. Earlier, Shang Feng was indignant, seemingly ready to fight for his daughter, but after the bodyguards restrained him, nearly in excruciating pain, he ca to his senses. What kind of person was Shang Feng?
He’d made choices and compromises for maximum profit his entire life, having done so with Yu Shaoya, and now for Shang Corporation, he’s willing to sacrifice even more, and Shang Feng understood well that he lacked leverage.
He didn’t intend for his daughter to divorce, he was just thinking to use this incident to hold Ruohan in his grip, so he’d be at Shang Feng’s disposal in the future.
But now it’s not feasible, Ruohan’s deanor clearly indicated that in terms of strength, Shang Feng was nothing, and if Ruohan truly troubled him, he’d never get out of here.
Besides, there’s Shang Corporation to consider.
In hindsight, Shang Feng felt he’d sowhat overreacted. Ruohan treated Shang Kaiwen exceptionally well, that much was obvious, and now, who outside doesn’t praise Ruohan as a devoted husband?
But Shang Feng saw the injuries on Shang Kaiwen, and he couldn’t help but speak, as if the family wouldn’t protect their own daughter.
Shang Feng regretted inwardly.
Ruohan’s sincere attitude made it difficult to stay upset; he hadn’t a single inkling of temper throughout.
How could soone like Ruohan lay a hand on Shang Kaiwen?
Shang Feng couldn’t figure it out.
"Dad, I love Kaiwen so much, but when I saw her attitude towards Jiang Shaoqing was so... sigh, no matter the reason, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have acted, even if I was so furious inside. Yet, I couldn’t help it; seeing her with Jiang Shaoqing, I just couldn’t hold back. I was wrong."
Shang Feng imdiately understood.
His daughter had made Ruohan a cuckold!
Shang Kaiwen’s feelings towards Jiang Shaoqing were well known to a father like him; they’ve been there for years. If Jiang Shaoqing had been willing to marry Shang Kaiwen, Ruohan would’ve been out of the picture.
Thinking this way, Shang Feng quickly felt guilty, realizing it’s probably his daughter’s mistake! Any man confronted with such a situation would feel his dignity was at stake if he didn’t retaliate, this reaction was from being pushed to his limit.
His tone dropped imdiately, his daughter had made a mistake; what more could he say?
"Whoever is right or wrong, ultimately you shouldn’t act physically. Kaiwen can be reasoned with, though sotis she’s willful. But you need to talk to her properly; behaving like this will only push her heart further away. Won need affection." Shang Feng had lost his temper.
As if he hadn’t just been ready to fight Ruohan monts ago.
