Chapter 1016: Chapter 1016: Duty Leader

Ji Tiande stumbled his way to the town governnt, arriving at two in the morning.

Anxiously, he knocked on the door of the governnt guard office.

The staff on duty, looking displeased, opened the window of the duty room to ask him.

“You’re here to get things done, aren’t you? You’ll have to wait until daylight to take care of business. There’s no one in the office building right now. You might as well find a place to stay overnight. Co back when it’s daylight.” He yawned and was ready to close the window.

Ji Tiande got anxious, blocking the window with his hand.

The guard, seeing his action, instantly took a cautious step back and picked up a stick from beside the table.

“What are you trying to do? I’m telling you, this is a state governnt facility. If you’re thinking of robbery or anything, you’d better leave early. Otherwise, I’ll imdiately turn you over to the police station.”

It’s no wonder the guard was suspicious of Ji Tiande’s actions; after traveling all night, Ji Tiande’s face mixed with sweat and dust ford ravines on his face, his hair soaked into strands by sweat. Anyone who saw him would think a beggar had rushed over from sowhere.

Ji Tiande realized his appearance caused alarm, hurriedly withdrew his hand and bowed to the guard inside.

“Comrade, comrade, I am Ji Tiande, the security director from Ji Village. I’m here to report an urgent situation. It’s truly very urgent.”

The earnest attitude and anxious gaze made the guard gradually ease up.

“How urgent can it be? Is there a fight in your village or has soone died? Even if there’s a fight and death, such matters are for the police station. What use is it to seek the town governnt? Besides, look at the ti, it’s two or three in the morning, where do you expect to find soone for you.”

Ji Tiande got even more anxious, “Comrade, really, this is critical. There has been a severe infectious disease outbreak in our village, many have fallen ill, and so have died. The town’s doctor has already arrived in our village, and it was the doctor who insisted we report this saying the situation is extrely urgent. If we don’t report it, there will be catastrophic consequences no one can bear.”

Upon hearing about the infectious disease, the guard instinctively covered his mouth and nose, took two steps back.

“You step back, you step back first. I’ll call the on-duty comrades first. Yes! Move outside the gate, don’t stay so close.”

Ji Tiande knew he was being avoided.

Who wouldn’t be scared upon hearing about an infectious disease? Once infected, Ji Tiande didn’t know what might happen. People have already died in the village; where there’s a first, there’ll be a second.

Though before he left, two doctors examined him, confird he didn’t carry any contagious virus before leaving the village.

Yet he understood, in outsiders’ eyes, who knows if he was infected; fear and worry are to be expected.

Silently retreating over ten steps, all the way outside the gate.

The guard hurriedly dialed the director on duty.

The on-duty person tonight was the town mayor, Wu Zhi. Generally, it’s unlikely for the mayor to be on duty. Tomorrow he’s participating in a county-hosted party mber study session, so he stayed in the office tonight.

This participation marks his only opportunity to study at the party school during his tenure. After this enhancent, further possibilities arise.

Hence, Wu Zhi himself was slightly excited and found it hard to sleep.

Among the ten or so villages under his jurisdiction, to be frank, they are mostly poor villages. Each year, the state allocates funds for poverty alleviation, yet these funds are rely a drop in the bucket; the poverty issues here cannot be addressed simply by compensating with so grain and money.

To fundantally resolve the poverty issues of these villages, the first crucial point is addressing land issues, while the second is unquestionably road construction.

Hasn’t state policy stated it? To create wealth, build roads.

Yet road construction here was almost impossibly challenging.

Relying on provincial and city financial allocations was absolutely unrealistic; they’re at the bottom of the priority list.

Peripheral provincial areas are first in developnt, and the annual allocations alone are insufficient, much less providing these poor rural areas with funds for road-building.

The province and city had issued docunts hoping they could self-solve part of it, be self-sufficient, and complete the road construction.

But how easy is self-sufficiency? Without money, there’s simply no way to be self-sufficient, farrs literally have no money, bellies barely filled, asking them to contribute for road construction is practically futile.

He had proposed plans before, hoping the governnt would allocate so funds, then mobilize villagers within the village to account for road construction costs based on labor, thus constructing a road to ensure these villages connect with the outside world so that crops grown, including chickens and pigs could help prosper.

Witnessing advanced experiences from other rural areas, thriving in farming, thriving in cultivation, even engaging in business, contracting teams to work in cities, and transport teams. Won could even make clothes and shoes; each village boasted its innovative experience to prosper; they relied on these for poverty alleviation.

But the premise was that roads were already built.

The proposal was instantly denied because governnt funding wasn’t realistic; the annual poverty alleviation funds already consud part of the tax revenue. Further road funding would incur high costs, road projects across extensive mountainous connections for multiple villages, solely constructing these winding mountain roads wasn’t a re exertion.

With similar funds, other places might build four or five roads, yet allocated here could hardly complete one road, possibly unfinished.

Upper-level leadership must also reasonable use of these funds.

He gazed at his aspirations, with these villages’ folks suffering, yet no solution in sight.

As a parent official, he deeply felt saddened by his impotence.

Who wouldn’t want to accomplish sothing, make achievents, but endeavors require competency; this town governnt labeled “governnt,” in truth annual funding is extrely tight, he too finds it hard to create sothing from nothing.

Wu Zhi smoked two cigarettes, struggling to rid his mind of chaotic thoughts, laid on the single bed, about to rest until it’s ti for departure.

Closing his eyes, sleeping now into a re over an hour.

The internal phone on the duty room’s desk suddenly rang.

Jolting Wu Zhi awake.

Raising his wrist, it showed two thirty.

Wu Zhi furrowed his brows, who would call at this ti?
