Chapter 539: Chapter 539: A Bowl of Wontons Chapter 539: Chapter 539: A Bowl of Wontons Li Wenli said as he forcefully pulled her out of the crowd.

Li Wenli was tall, and with the advantage of his height, he managed to find a “broad avenue” through the bustling crowd.

With Li Wenli acting as a human GPS, Bai Junjun no longer had to worry and just followed him.

However, looking at his figure and the hand holding hers, Bai Junjun’s heart couldn’t help but soften.

“I almost lost you,”… There was a ti during The Apocalypse when she had faced death over and over again; she had also wished for soone to save her from danger.

But she also knew that depending on others was dangerous and would eventually lead to death.

For the Polar Bear Base, Bai Junjun had long since cut off all romantic emotions, yet unexpectedly, in recent tis, Fox’s inadvertent teasing caused her heart to flutter repeatedly.

Bai Junjun secretly touched her chest, reminding herself not to be foolish.

So they moved through the crowd with different thoughts, and before long, they left the bustling Famous Scholar Bridge.

Many vendors at the market were selling masks and flowers, apparently making a final push for tomorrow’s parade.

However, at this mont, everyone’s focus was clearly not on the vendors but gathered by the river to watch the lanterns instead.

As a result, the usually crowded market beca quite spacious.

It was then that Li Wenli let go of Bai Junjun’s hand and said with a laugh, “When they co back, they will surely want to have a late-night snack; we can definitely wait for them here.”

Just as he spoke, a tantalizing fragrance wafted their way; a closer sniff revealed the fresh sweetness of fish, yet it wasn’t fish. The two were imdiately captivated by the scent.

With the delicacy right before her, Bai Junjun’s rich inner turmoil was thrown to the back of her mind; she followed her instincts, led by the aroma, to a small food vendor.

The vendor was an elderly couple; the grandma was intently wrapping sothing, while the grandpa was fishing out food from a stove.

Bai Junjun, curious, walked over to take a look and saw the grandpa scooping out ten plump dough dumplings from the pot. These dumplings were placed into a large bowl, floating amidst so brownish greens, speckled with droplets of oil and bits of spring onion.

The fragrant aroma was emanating from this large bowl.

Seeing an attractive couple in front of their stall, the grandparents couldn’t help but smile and ask, “Would the young master and young lady like to try a bowl of wontons?”

“Wontons?” The two bumpkins admitted they had never tried them.

The grandma, still smiling, invited them to sit down and have a taste.

The two promptly took a seat at a table and settled down quietly.

After serving the prepared dishes to another table of custors, the grandpa slowly made his way back to the stall and said to Li Wenli with a smile, “No rush, we’re starting on yours now.”

He then urged his wife to wrap the wontons more quickly.

Bai Junjun and Li Wenli, having only seen wontons in pastry sections and never in person, couldn’t help but rise to observe the process.

Luckily, the elderly couple didn’t mind these two impolite onlookers trying to learn their craft and continued to chat with them amiably.

It was then that Bai Junjun could see clearly that the grandma was holding dough skins, and in front of her was a large bowl with well-mixed at filling that looked like pork, which also contained so white, translucent bits of at that were unidentifiable.

The two watched quietly as the grandma wrapped twenty wontons, and as soon as she finished, the grandpa imdiately used a skimr to place the wontons into the soup. It wasn’t long before the wontons that had sunk to the bottom of the pot floated to the top.
