When all is said and done, the bandits’ annihilation might have had a trace of their involvent.

If they hadn’t raided the backyard so decisively, those people wouldn’t have left without a second thought.

The two shook their heads regretfully and continued downstream along the river. Before long, they began to sense the humid air and the foul stench wafting through.

Bai Junjun ca to realize they were not far from the swamp now.

Yet, before they even reached the swamp, a creature suddenly lunged out from the jungle on Bai Junjun’s side, opening its jaws toward her thigh.

Li Wenli reacted swiftly, wrapping his arm around Bai Junjun’s waist and leaping into the air. As they soared upward, a loud thud of sothing heavy hitting the ground sounded below.

Instinctively, the two glanced down and saw that the attacker was a crocodile, at least three ters long.

The crocodile, having darted from the bushes, failed its attempt at biting and now lay on the ground. It scanned the surroundings before abruptly looking up.

Its lake-colored eyes, vertical pupils as sharp slits, glared chillingly at the two suspended in midair.

anwhile, rustling sounds arose from the surrounding bushes. Four to five other crocodiles, of similar size to the first, erged one after another.

It seed they too could sll the scent of fresh at.

At the sudden appearance of the crocodiles below, Bai Junjun and Li Wenli were montarily stunned.

Who would’ve guessed there’d be a crocodile nest here? Could it be these crocodiles only appear in this area and never bother the bandit camps?

Bai Junjun recalled the Clan Leader’s words—it did seem there was no phenonon of monsters roaming everywhere. This could only an the crocodiles had sufficient food here and didn’t need to expand their territory to hunt.

But, fortunately, the crocodiles didn’t wander aimlessly; otherwise, given the bandits’ habit of retreating after taking losses, there would’ve been no chance for them to score opportunistically.

Everything happens for the best, and indeed, this phrase holds true.

The two didn’t plan to engage the crocodiles directly. After all, they had just reached the swamp’s edge and hadn’t explored the territory thoroughly. Who knew how many crocodiles there were here or what peculiarities lay behind them?

So Li Wenli, without hesitation, carried the young lady and flew straight towards the deeper part of the swamp. Along the way, they brushed past countless treetops, startling many Bamboo Leaf Green snakes napping among the branches. Those green snakes, whose coloration blended seamlessly with the leaves, were barely noticeable as the two shot past—but the Bamboo Leaf Greens were far from courteous, sensing passing life forms and imdiately baring their fangs.

Bai Junjun, however, had her Drooping Tube Flower Whip in hand. Any snakes, insects, or rodents that lunged at them were t with a single stroke, and before long, the whip’s tip had captured a sizable collection of venomous snakes.

Staring at the densely coiled mass of snakes wrapped around the whip’s tail, Li Wenli felt a chill run down his spine. "What are you collecting those things for?"

"Although they’re highly venomous, they’re top-grade dicinal ingredients. If I take them back to gift to my stingy ntor, he’ll definitely be thrilled."

Li Wenli smirked at the young lady. "You know what my favorite side of you is?"

"Which side?"

"The side that shows genuine warmth." Li Wenli chuckled.

Bai Junjun paused, slightly surprised. In The Apocalypse, wasn’t warmth the most scarce thing? Once, those of them barely surviving in zombie-infested surroundings had lost too much of their basic humanity. It was only here where Bai Junjun began to relearn sentints like familial bonds and the camaraderie of neighbors.

Without even realizing it, she had grown into the person she had always wished to beco.

Reflecting on the past half-year’s transformation, Bai Junjun couldn’t help but feel deeply moved. Everything that had happened here felt like a dream.
