Chapter 25: Chapter 25 will continue in a mont Chapter 25: Chapter 25 will continue in a mont Seeing that their vegetables were nicely laid out, Sister Zhang then asked, “Selling carrots and tomatoes today, huh? What’s the price like?”
i ngzhen, who got her vegetables from a special source, responded without any reservation, “Sa as yesterday, selling by the piece, all for 5 or 10 yuan each.”
Upon hearing the price and looking at the great-looking and tasty vegetables, Sister Zhang waved her hand generously, “Ten tomatoes and ten carrots for .”
With Sister Zhang’s order, they had made a hundred yuan off their produce, and people who were originally about to remark on the high prices all started asking, “Why are you buying these when they’re so expensive? Don’t you sell vegetables yourself?”
“Exactly, you’re not so kind of plant, are you?”
“Plant, my foot! Do I need a plant to sell vegetables? These are really tasty. You all missed out yesterday; the cabbage and daikon radishes that the kid was selling tasted so good. These vegetables look just like yesterday’s, so they must be delicious too,” said one of the experienced vegetable vendors who knew the tricks of the trade. Without going into detail, just the neat and shiny appearance of the vegetables indicated they wouldn’t taste bad – after all, such fine produce was surely grown with great care, and anything grown with such care couldn’t possibly taste bad. They’re worth the premium price.
As she spoke, Sister Zhang handed over a hundred yuan to i ngzhen, who took the money and bagged the vegetables for her. Under Sister Zhang’s watchful eye, i even threw in an extra tomato, “Try this directly, it really tastes good.”
Sister Zhang wasn’t bashful, “You sure know how to do business, girl. I’ll wash it and give it a try right now.”
It wasn’t just Sister Zhang who wanted to try; her husband did too. Seeing Sister Zhang going to wash the tomato, he quickly asked, “Wash one for too.”
When Sister Zhang ca back out, the tomato was already in her mouth, and the taste was indescribably good – ‘delicious’ was all that needed to be said.
After so ‘marketing’ by Sister Zhang, the picky eater in the neighborhood who everyone knew was now eagerly eating – sothing that made all the nearby residents stop and ponder.
Of course, these were all people who hadn’t bought any yesterday.
As for the vegetable vendors at the market who had purchased so the day before, they didn’t hesitate to leave their stalls or stores to buy from her, causing many passersby to stare in bewildernt.
People: Aren’t you guys selling these? Why are you buying more vegetables? Isn’t there enough at ho?
Vegetable Market Bosses: It’s enough, but not delicious.
A crowd sward in, and in no ti, a large portion of the vegetables that i ngzhen brought was gone. So bought out of curiosity to try them, and the two baskets she pushed were quickly half-empty.
This whole sequence of events happened so fast that Liang Xiao, who accompanied her, had barely caught up with the pace of taking money and bagging the produce. Only when the crowd finally thinned could she find a mont to ask, “Aren’t your prices a bit too high?”
“Isn’t it a bit late to ask now? I’ve almost sold all my vegetables.”
But actually, it was still okay. She had seen the prices at the other stalls when she passed by; tomatoes were going for around 2 yuan each, and the carrots were about the sa price. Her vegetables might be more expensive, but they weren’t unreasonably so.
“It’s fine, people are buying them, aren’t they?” And they were buying in hundreds – when it cos to daily life, folks were willing to spend.
Liang Xiao agreed with this sentint, “True, people really are willing to spend.”
The conversation hadn’t even ended when a commotion arose from the Grocery Store – a child started to make a fuss, “I want to eat! I want more! Mom is so stingy!”
The boy who was talking was Sister Zhang’s son, and the reason for his outburst was that Sister Zhang had given him half of the tomato to eat. But once he got a taste, he was addicted and demanded more after finishing his half.
But the child was small, and the tomatoes were large; half a tomato was already filling, so how could he possibly eat more? Hence, the tantrum.
“I’ll fry so for you at lunch. Tomatoes and eggs, alright? I also bought carrots just now, and they’re tasty too. How about stir-fried carrot with beef?”
Hearing that he would still get to eat at lunch, the little boy’s attitude softened, “Then when are we having lunch?”
The poor kid just had his breakfast, “Go play for now, I’ll call you when it’s ti for lunch.”
The child left, reluctantly stepping outside. Afterwards, Sister Zhang returned to their stall with a smile, “You see, my little boy is thin, and he’s picky, but since he ate the vegetables we bought from you last night, he actually wanted to eat. I cooked noodles with cabbage this morning, and he finished a whole bowl. Do you have more vegetables? Give another ten tomatoes and ten carrots.”
“Sure, children need nutrition at this age, and these vegetables are nutritious.”
With that, Sister Zhang sighed, “It’s really sothing; my child loves your vegetables. I stir-fried yesterday’s cabbage with our own, and he could accurately identify which was yours and which was ours, choosing only to eat the ones from you.”
“My brother is the sa; after eating these vegetables, he doesn’t like others anymore.”
At that mont, Liang Xiao finished bagging the vegetables and handed them to i ngzhen. Sister Zhang, curious after paying, asked, “Is she your classmate?”
“Yes, I have to pick up more vegetables later, but my brother needed soone to look after him, so I asked my classmate to help out.”
As soon as i ngzhen said this, even the noisy Market couldn’t help but perk up their ears in anticipation.
More vegetables?
Sister Zhang was delighted, “Young lady!”
“Sister Zhang, just call Zhenzhen. My brother is Chenchen, and my classmate is Xiaoxiao.”
“Oh, those are nice nas! What vegetables are you bringing later, Zhenzhen?”
“Cucumbers and eggplants, and so apples in small amounts. I’ll go get them in a bit,” she replied, checking the ti on her phone and pretending to wait for a delivery, “It’ll be soon.”
Indeed, it was almost ti. The previous two crates of vegetables were nearly sold out, and now they were just waiting for ngzhen to display the new batch to continue selling.
First, she went to the store she visited yesterday and bought a trailer and two more crates, and an additional small crate. She pulled the cart into a secluded corner to ensure it was safe, then filled the newly purchased crates with vegetables using her thoughts, also packing a small crate of apples.
With all the construction going on, finding a secluded spot was quite easy.
It was tough work for one person to load the crates, and even tougher for one person to pull the cart back. Although it was slightly easier when two people ca, now she had to manage on her own. Honestly, it was quite strenuous, but it was sothing she had to get used to. She couldn’t always rely on Liang Xiao – what if Liang Xiao was unavailable? Would she just not set up shop?
By the ti she pulled the cart back, the previous batch of vegetables had been sold. They only had to wait for ngzhen to arrange the new batch before they could start selling again.
