In the morning, after finishing a scene, Tang Li received a call from Wu Xuehan and found out that Mother Wu had already entered the Lai household, even Father Wu was retained, and things had developed much more smoothly than she had anticipated.
Since it was Saturday, the Ouyang Qian couple wouldn’t be going to work.
Lai Wenyan and his political friends had arranged to play ball, and he left the house after having breakfast.
Tang Li chose today partly because she guessed that Ouyang Qian might be at ho, so she had Wu Xuehan’s mother take the initiative to apply for a job at the Lai family.
Over the phone, Wu Xuehan told Tang Li: “My dad took my mom over, and after driving around near the Lai’s residence, they saw a servant taking out the trash. My mom asked if they needed a nanny, and after the servant consulted with the hoowners, they let my parents in.”
Keeping Father Wu was because the Lai family needed soone to prune plants in the sumr.
Ouyang Qian easily agreed to keep both of them, greatly influenced by the couple’s honest appearance. Moreover, since they ca from a small place and were unaccustod to the ways of the world, even if they stayed for a long ti, it wouldn’t pose any significant issues.
In terms of the monthly salary, Mother Wu proposed 8000 yuan for both, and Ouyang Qian, feeling it was a loss to hire just one, decided to spend an extra 2000 yuan.
After finishing shooting in the evening, Tang Li went straight back to the Lai household.
Yu Sui, holding a box of white silkworms, watched Tang Li get out of the car. Next to her feet was a large plastic bag filled with fresh mulberry leaves she had picked with Tang Li at Nanshan Park along the way.
As the car door closed, Yu Sui leaned towards the passenger seat, unusually taking the initiative to strike up a conversation with Yuan Qin: “Having been colleagues for so long, I’m also thinking of giving you a gift.”
Yuan Qin: “…”
In the end, Yu Sui only gave away 20 silkworms.
Even those 20 were given reluctantly.
Yuan Qin wouldn’t take any more.
“Not even a bit of a gentleman’s deanor,” Yu Sui grumbled as she picked up a silkworm with her thumb and forefinger, placing it into a little box that had held chicken nuggets. She gazed aningfully at Yuan Qin in front: “Normally, n wouldn’t refuse things given by a girl. Rejecting it like this really snubs the giver.”
Yuan Qin didn’t respond, nor did he turn around, letting her complain as she wished.
What did he, an adult, have to squabble about with a child?
Seeing no reaction from Yuan Qin, Yu Sui placed two more silkworms into the box. At tis like this, giving away one more was still one less, and then, reluctantly, she passed the box forward: “It’s all packed!”
Yuan Qin looked sideways, taking the little box from her.
“I’ve realized your profile is quite handso.”
Yu Sui blurted out suddenly.
Yuan Qin glanced up at her, seemingly unfazed, and continued to open the little box.
Watching him really start to count the baby silkworms, Yu Sui frowned: “What about the trust between people? It’s just 20 silkworms. Do you think I would short-change you?”
Before the words were finished, a man’s right hand reached over.
Yuan Qin spread his hand open.
In the palm of his hand were two chubby baby silkworms.
“Too many.”
Yu Sui: “Heh…”
As Tang Li entered the villa’s doorway, Mother Wu happened to co out of the living room, carrying a tray with a freshly squeezed juice for Old Madam Lai.
Seeing Tang Li, Mother Wu didn’t stop to greet her, she just went straight back to the kitchen.
After entering the house, Tang Li planned to go upstairs, but Old Madam Lai called out to her.
Waiting until Tang Li stood in front of the coffee table, Old Madam Lai looked at her, lips slightly pursed, suppressing the loathing in her heart, and took a long ti to speak: “The day after tomorrow, the kidnapping case will go to trial. Your eldest sister was slandered by that foreigner. Since you are chosen to be a witness, you know very well what you should and shouldn’t say.”
