Tang Li asked, "Have the other guests not arrived yet?"

"There was never a plan to invite many people." Gao Wenlan beckoned her to sit down: "Professor Wong likes tranquility. He’s lived most of his life without having a proper birthday."

While talking, Tang Li handed over the tea leaves she had brought.

Gao Wenlan shot her a glare: "You young girl, quite good at flattering people."

At this mont, Wong Yangming was in the study.

Gao Wenlan was going to the kitchen to "supervise" the housekeeper’s cooking, and Tang Li volunteered to help.

"Do you even know how to cook?" Gao Wenlan looked at her skeptically.

"I can cook, although just average."

Since Tang Li was 13, Tang Yin’s health had progressively worsened, and gradually it was Tang Li who took over the household duties of laundry and cooking. In her past life, Tang Li had also taken care of Qin Yueru for several years. Though her culinary skills weren’t outstanding, she could manage to cook a few simple hostyle dishes.

In the kitchen, the housekeeper was boiling a mushroom and mixed vegetable soup.

Tang Li saw the tomatoes on the counter and noticed the housekeeper was too busy to manage everything, so she took the initiative to help chop vegetables while Gao Wenlan stood by watching.

Once the housekeeper took the soup out, Gao Wenlan remarked, "It’s rare to find young ladies who can cook these days."

Tang Li smiled: "Children from poor families grow up taking on responsibilities early."

Gao Wenlan ignored her joke.

After a short while, Gao Wenlan suddenly asked, "How’s your relationship with your father now?"

"It’s just like that."

"Have you ever considered reconciling with your father?"

Tang Li stopped what she was doing and seed to consider seriously for a few seconds before saying, "Given what he’s done to my mother and my grandfather, it will never be possible for us to have a normal father-daughter relationship."

Gao Wenlan usually didn’t like to ddle or pry into people’s private matters, but now hearing Tang Li speak like this, unusually, she pressed further: "What exactly has your father done?"

"He deceived my mother into marriage and also caused the death of my grandfather."

Tang Li simply summarized Lai Wenyan’s history of deceit and ascent.

Her tone was calm, as if she were talking about soone else’s story.

Continuing on, Tang Li paused: "Even if I wanted to nd the relationship with my father, his current wife and daughter would never nod in agreent."

Tang Li placed the chopped tomatoes onto a plate, then turned to ask, "Are we going to make stir-fried tomato and eggs?"

The housekeeper had not yet returned.

Gao Wenlan went out to check and didn’t find the housekeeper in the dining room: "She’s probably gone to the restroom; her stomach has been upset since this afternoon, and she’s been cooking while enduring discomfort."

Wong Yangming ca downstairs, saw no one in the living room, so he particularly went to look in the kitchen.

As he approached the door, he saw his wife, with a pot lid in her arms, standing behind a young girl.

The girl was wearing an apron and stir-frying in a pan.

Gao Wenlan, unversed in cooking, craned her neck to peek into the pot.

Noticing her husband beside the door, Gao Wenlan sent him a proud smile.

Wong Yangming smiled back.

After that, Wong Yangming left the kitchen.

As for Gao Wenlan, the more she watched Tang Li, the more she liked her. Tang Li had none of the fragility typical of girls these days, was intelligent without being noisy, and even though she ca from a poor family, she did not hide it. After entering the entertainnt industry, she also didn’t adopt a superficial attitude and, being an acquaintance of Song Baiyan, there certainly could not be big issues with her character.

Such a well-behaved child would bring honor wherever she went.

Just as Tang Li switched off the gas stove, she heard Gao Wenlan say: "Professor Wong and I have been married for over thirty years with no children of our own. Since you and your father aren’t on good terms, why don’t you beco our daughter?"

"..." Tang Li.

Gao Wenlan glared at her: "What’s with the face, it offends you?"
