Chen Ke and Mai Qiqi have been dating for over a month. Chief Prosecutor Chen repeatedly urged Chen Ke to bring Mai Qiqi ho for a visit. Chen Ke was unwilling, so Chief Prosecutor Chen directly contacted Mr. Mai and Mrs. Mai. The Mai family naturally thought it was quite normal for their daughter to visit the Chen family, so they urged Mai Qiqi to discuss the visit with Chen Ke.
Previously, they were worried about the complicated situation of the Chen family. However, after eting Chief Prosecutor Chen, they realized that Chief Prosecutor Chen treated his son, Chen Ke, very well and even liked Mai Qiqi. So, the Mai family was no longer concerned about whether Mai Qiqi would be wronged by visiting the Chen family.
Caught between both sides, Chen Ke had no choice but to compromise and agreed to take Mai Qiqi ho.
Soon it was the agreed afternoon, and Mai Qiqi and Chen Ke were walking towards the Chen house. Mai Qiqi was quite nervous and asked, "Can you tell more about your family? The specifics of each person, so I don’t joke around or offend anyone by mistake when I get there."
Chen Ke glanced at her briefly and replied coolly, "No need, it’s not like you’re living with them. We’re just going for a brief visit today."
Hearing this, Mai Qiqi stopped walking imdiately. Chen Ke walked a couple of steps, sensed sothing was wrong, and turned to see Mai Qiqi looking at him with displeasure.
"What’s wrong?"
Mai Qiqi rolled her eyes at him, "Then we might as well not go."
Chen Ke was taken aback but nodded, "Okay, if you don’t want to go, let’s not." Saying this, he actually turned around to leave.
Mai Qiqi was dumbfounded, "Chen Ke, stop right there!"
"What now?" Chen Ke was puzzled.
Mai Qiqi, extrely irritated, gritted her teeth for a mont before shouting, "You’re such a jerk!!"
"Alright, I’m a jerk." Chen Ke, having no patience with Mai Qiqi, imdiately went along with her.
At this mont, a fourteen or fifteen-year-old kid suddenly appeared from behind a nearby tree, cheerfully calling out, "Big brother."
Mai Qiqi turned around in a daze, looking at this obviously clever child, thinking: could he have overheard what they were saying just now?
Chen Ke nodded at him and sternly asked, "What are you doing here?"
The child grinned, "Mom said you hadn’t arrived yet, so she sent out to see where you were. You guys take your ti; I’ll go back and tell Dad and Mom you’re almost here." With that, he ran off.
"Oh..." Mai Qiqi anxiously waved her hand a couple of tis, but the kid had already disappeared like he was on wind-powered wheels. She could only complain to Chen Ke: "See, he probably heard what we were saying and will definitely tell your family. How embarrassing will that be later?"
Chen Ke frowned, "You don’t need to worry too much about them; just consider today a formality."
Mai Qiqi pouted at him, then suddenly said, "Chen Ke, I think your bad relationship with your family is at least seventy percent your fault. You treat your family like this, so won’t you be heartless to too in the future?"
"What nonsense are you talking about? Are you the sa as them?" Chen Ke said helplessly, "As long as you’re on the sa page with , I’ll treat you well for life."
Mai Qiqi huffed, "If you’re good to , then don’t keep a long face today."
Chen Ke: "...I’ll try."
They soon arrived at the gate of the Chen family’s villa. As soon as they reached the front gate, a group of people erged from the house. Among them was the little boy from earlier and Chen Haoyan, whom she had t once before. Mai Qiqi guessed they must be Chen Ke’s family, so she imdiately put on a smile.
"Xiao Mai, right? Welco, welco." A middle-aged woman at the front said with a sowhat awkward smile.
Mai Qiqi smiled while looking at Chen Ke, signaling with her eyes to ask who this was.
Chen Ke’s lips moved slightly, "Stepmother."
Mai Qiqi imdiately said graciously, "Hello, Aunt, sorry to bother you."
"No trouble at all, please co in and have a chat."
"Okay, sure."
The group ushered into the living room. Mai Qiqi glanced around slightly; the ho was very clean, tidy, and cozy.
Everyone surrounded Mai Qiqi and Chen Ke, sitting them on the sofa. Mai Qiqi quietly surveyed the people around. There were Chief Prosecutor Chen and his wife, a couple in their thirties, with Chen Haoyan sitting between them. They should be Chen Haoyan’s parents, brought in by Mrs. Prosecutor, and they actually live here. It seems they have a good relationship.
Also, the boy from earlier was there, his eyes darting around, appraising her. It was clear he was quite cherished in the family.
While Mai Qiqi was observing them, they were also observing her.
Chief Prosecutor Chen tried to appear kindly, asking, "Xiao Mai, are you tired from the trip? What would you like to drink?"
Everyone was shocked because they had never seen Chief Prosecutor Chen look so gentle at ho. However, Chen Ke showed no reaction, maintaining his indifferent and aloof deanor.
"Uncle, not at all, just a glass of water is fine," said Mai Qiqi politely.
After the housekeeper brought water, Chief Prosecutor Chen introduced the family to Mai Qiqi one by one, realizing it was impossible for his unfeeling son, Chen Ke, who wished Mai Qiqi wouldn’t know anyone.
Starting from the youngest, the prosecutor introduced, "This is Haoyan. I heard you’ve t Haoyan before."
Chen Haoyan sweetly greeted, "Hello, Aunt Qiqi."
Mai Qiqi nodded and took out the gift prepared for Chen Haoyan from her bag.
"Thank you, Aunt Qiqi." Chen Haoyan, very polite, couldn’t help asking, "Aunt Qiqi, when can you take to play with Brother Little Lizzi, Sister Erya, and Hunter and Chuanqi’s sister?"
Chen Haoyan’s mother explained with so embarrassnt, "Yanyan has been thinking about those friends since he went out with his uncle."
Mai Qiqi laughed, "We’ll take you to play with them when there’s a chance in the future."
Chief Prosecutor Chen was very pleased with Mai Qiqi’s interaction with his grandson. He then introduced Chen Haoyan’s parents, "This is Haoyan’s dad and mom."
Mai Qiqi exchanged greetings with them and gave them gifts. This ti, even Chen Haoyan’s mom returned a small eting gift to Mai Qiqi.
Next was the boy who had run outside to et them, "This is Chen Chao, Chen Ke’s brother."
Chen Chao imdiately laughed, "Hello, future sister-in-law. I hope you can co to our house more often." That way, his elder brother would also co ho more often, and this sister-in-law could manage big brother. With her around, his brother’s relationship with the family would surely improve.
Chen Ke threw a cold glance at Chen Chao, whose attention was entirely on Mai Qiqi, not paying any heed to him.
Then ca Mrs. Prosecutor; Chief Prosecutor Chen introduced her as "Chen Chao’s mom."
Mai Qiqi felt that this stepmother was quite gentle and caring, genuinely kind to her, not just pretending.
Apart from Chen Ke’s sparse words throughout, today’s eting went quite well. The Chen family was particularly warm towards Mai Qiqi. Mai Qiqi felt they were almost eager to win her favor.
After dinner, following a pleasant chat, Chen Ke suggested it was late, and they should leave. The Chen family reluctantly saw them off.
On the way back, noticing Mai Qiqi’s good mood, humming a tune, Chen Ke couldn’t help but ask, "So happy?"
Mai Qiqi leaned over, holding Chen Ke’s arm, "Yes, I’m very happy. I think your family is quite adorable."
Chen Ke gave a small snort, but the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but curl into a slight smile.
