At dinner ti, Xiao Bai ca over again.
Father Jiang and Mrs. Jiang did not expect Xiao Bai to co so quickly. Jiang Xiaoxiao happily put down her chopsticks and went to greet Xiao Bai.
"Have you had dinner? It just so happens that we made one of your favorite dishes today. Eat with us." As she spoke, she was about to call the maid to add chopsticks for him.
Xiao Bai pressed down his hand, smiled, and said, "No rush." He wondered why he had never noticed how adorable this girl was before.
Father Jiang’s face darkened. His well-behaved daughter had been whisked away by soone else; it was truly disheartening.
"Let’s eat."
Mrs. Jiang responded with an "Oh," and both she and her husband acted as if they hadn’t noticed Xiao Bai’s arrival, continuing to eat their dinner. Knowing her parents were displeased, Jiang Xiaoxiao didn’t dare to say anything more. She just stuck out her tongue, wanting to wait with Xiao Bai, but he pushed her back to the dining table to continue eating.
"Listen and go eat. You should eat more; look how thin you are, the feel isn’t too good anymore." He whispered into Jiang Xiaoxiao’s ear.
Jiang Xiaoxiao’s face turned red all at once, and she gave him a fierce glare, huffily returning to the dining table and ignoring him.
Xiao Bai smiled and sat quietly on the living room sofa, waiting.
Mrs. Jiang, puzzled by the change in her daughter’s attitude, asked, "What’s wrong?"
"Nothing, Mom. Take your ti eating, eat so more, let him wait longer," Jiang Xiaoxiao purposefully said.
After a while, the three mbers of the Jiang family finally finished their al.
Father Jiang sat on the sofa, face expressionless, and asked, "What are you here for?"
Xiao Bai earnestly replied, "Uncle said he wanted to see my sincerity. I wouldn’t dare delay. This is all my property, and Xiaoxiao can have the final say." He placed a small bag on the coffee table, taking out several bankbooks, three property deeds, and two docunts from inside it.
The small bag continued, "The days ahead for and Xiaoxiao are still long. Living life isn’t just about wealth. Rest assured, uncle and aunt, Xiaoxiao will not be wronged in the future."
Hearing his words, Jiang Xiaoxiao was instantly moved, and Father Jiang grunted, though his expression softened considerably.
...
Two days later, Wan Chu’er received a grateful phone call from Jiang Xiaoxiao, "Sister-in-law, I owe you a lot. What would I have done without you?" The happiness in her words couldn’t be hidden.
Wan Chu’er clicked her tongue twice, hearing that Father Jiang and Mrs. Jiang had agreed, and she was very happy for them.
Xiao Bai was not young anymore, already in his thirties, but it was unclear whether the Bai family from Wutong County would attend if there were talks of marriage.
Two days later, it was ti for the birthday party of the two little ones. The day before, both families were busy prepping, with many guests coming from out of town and so relatives and old friends of the Jiang family visiting, Wan Chu’er had to bring her two children to et them.
Busy until ten o’clock at night, she had just put the two children to sleep when she received a call from Mai Qiqi.
"Chuchu, I won’t attend your family’s birthday party tomorrow. I’ll make it up to the kids with gifts later." Mai Qiqi’s voice was sowhat low.
The heartbreak had hit her hard, and being upstaged by another woman like that felt like a blow she couldn’t quite get over.
Wan Chu’er asked, "What happened? Do you have sothing more important tomorrow?"
Before, Mai Qiqi had expressed her intention to attend the banquet and even ntioned she wanted to et so young talents stronger than An Zihao. Why did she suddenly change her mind? Wan Chu’er was very puzzled and worried that sothing bad might have happened to her.
"No worries, I’m just not in the mood. With a face as sour as a bitter lon, I’d better not embarrass you," Mai Qiqi explained softly.
Wan Chu’er: "What are you talking about! Co on, tell what’s really going on, no kidding around and no excuses."
Under Wan Chu’er’s persistent questioning, Mai Qiqi finally said gloomily: "I heard that tomorrow An Zihao is going to bring Chu Xueli with him. I don’t want to see them."
"What?" Wan Chu’er beca angrily surprised, "How co I didn’t know that such a despicable pair was invited!" It was her children’s birthday party, even if it wasn’t a fancy affair, they wouldn’t invite such an eyesore.
Mai Qiqi said: "I heard the invitation might have co from the Jiang Family. Forget it, don’t stir up trouble with the Jiang Family because of , let’s just get through tomorrow smoothly."
Tomorrow’s banquet was to be a grand affair, with many important figures attending; it had already beco a hot topic in the elite circles of Beijing. Many people were trying all sorts of ways to secure an invitation.
The An Family was originally extraordinary, and it was conceivable they would find a way to have An Zihao make an appearance.
Upon hearing this, Wan Chu’er felt a surge of anger, certainly it must be the doing of those relatives from the Jiang Family!
She said: "You just co tomorrow, why should we make way for that despicable couple? Mai Qiqi, you’re not the one at fault here, what are you avoiding? If that scum and that woman don’t feel ashad, why should you give way to them."
Mai Qiqi advised: "Chuchu, let it go. If it were another situation, I definitely wouldn’t be so weak, but tomorrow is different. If anything bad happens, it’s going to cause you trouble."
Though indeed it was the case, to have her best friend suffer unjustly was sothing Wan Chu’er couldn’t stand. After much thought, she said:
"Tomorrow I’ll have Brother Yan Hui co pick you up; let him be your male companion."
Mai Qiqi gasped, picturing a figure who was indifferent and reserved, exceptionally cold to everyone except Wan Chu’er, and always distant towards other won.
Among the eligible bachelors of Beijing, Yan Hui was the top choice many single won dreamt of marrying; wealthy, handso, elegant, and parentless but backed by an influencer like Old Sir Zhong. Many won dreamt of earning even a glance from Yan Hui, sothing she dared not hope for.
However, she couldn’t help thinking that if she were to appear arm-in-arm with Yan Hui at such an event, she could imagine the look on An Zihao and Chu Xueli’s faces.
But Yan Hui was an unreachable deity.
"No, Chuchu, please don’t trouble Mr. Yan," she knew due to the closeness between Wan Chu’er and Yan Hui, he would likely acquiesce, but she couldn’t accept it.
Wan Chu’er, however, beca more convinced her idea was excellent. She said: "Since that shaless couple is set to show up tomorrow, don’t bla for being impolite. I’ve been thinking of giving them a good lesson for a while now, it’s for your sake as well as mine.
Mai Qiqi, make sure you’re absolutely radiant and breathtaking tomorrow. Let An Zihao realize how foolish it was for him to give you up. Chu Xueli likes climbing the social ladder, right? Make her die of envy."
"Chuchu, I...I can’t cope with Mr. Yan, I know you an well..." Mai Qiqi still wanted to resist.
"Do you want to vent in front of them?" Wan Chu’er interrupted her.
"I do..."
"Do you want An Zihao to regret his blindness?"
"...Yes"
"Then pull yourself together, just make sure to dress beautifully, I’ll handle the rest." Wan Chu’er made the final decision.
