Wan Chu’er got ho and found Bai Zhixi busy to the point of oblivion, not even noticing that her daughter had co ho half an hour later than usual.
Tomorrow, she needed to deliver pickles to the second batch of cooperating restaurants, and there were several different types to package. Besides, she had one batch of vegetables that hadn’t been pickled yet. She was working overti, worrying the vegetables would lose their freshness and the taste wouldn’t be as good if left out too long.
The house was now cluttered with pots and jars everywhere, vegetables scattered all around.
As soon as Wan Chu’er entered the house, she was t with the sll of pickles and frowned, thinking this wouldn’t work for long as the production of pickles was expected to increase, and eventually, there wouldn’t be enough space at ho.
Bai Zhixi was packaging the pickles for tomorrow’s delivery. Upon hearing her daughter’s arrival, she didn’t look up but continued working and said:
"Chuchu, there are two buns left in the pot, eat them if you’re hungry. You study so late every night, how can you last without eating?"
Wan Chu’er responded, set down her schoolbag, and went over to help Bai Zhixi, labeling each packaged bag with a small note.
Each label detailed the restaurant’s na, the weight of the pickles, and the type and date of the pickle.
Once all the pickles were packaged, Bai Zhixi hurried Wan Chu’er to eat.
"Go eat the buns, then study for a bit in your room and get so rest early. I can handle the rest on my own."
Wan Chu’er urged Bai Zhixi, "Mom, you should rest early too, don’t stay up too late." Then she went to the kitchen, grabbed the buns, and headed to her room.
She reviewed all the content taught in class that day and previewed the material for the next day, did an English exam set, and it was already midnight.
She listened for sounds outside; it was silent, Bai Zhixi had probably gone to sleep. Wan Chu’er then quietly went out to the bathroom to wash up before going to bed.
A few tis, Bai Zhixi noticed that Wan Chu’er often went to bed very late. During the day, when she entered her daughter’s room and found textbooks and various workbooks everywhere along with a schedule posted above her bed, Bai Zhixi never urged her to rest early again, knowing Chuchu had her plans. Instead, she focused on ensuring her daughter had good als.
The next morning, Wan Chu’er went to school as usual. She ran around the playground for thirty minutes before going to the classroom to start her studies.
It wasn’t until just before school was dismissed that Liu Li threw five yuan and a note onto Wan Chu’er’s desk.
Wan Chu’er paused for a few seconds, picked up the note, and read: "Owe ten dollars, will return it tomorrow."
It seed Liu Li was planning to go to Heavenly World.
Before Liu Li went to Heavenly World, she needed to et with Manager Bai, so right after school, Wan Chu’er rushed towards Heavenly World, only to hear a car honking just as she sprinted out of the school gate.
Following the sound, she saw Xiao Bai in flashy white clothes, standing by a car door, grinning at her.
Without a second thought, Wan Chu’er went over, opened the car door, and sat inside.
Manager Bai looked surprised; this girl was really bold, not afraid that he might be a bad person.
Wan Chu’er saw him still hesitating and urged, "What are you spacing out for? Hurry up, I don’t want to be a spectacle for my classmates."
In 1990s Wutong County, not many high school girls would boldly hop into a car like this, especially since everyone knew she was from a single-parent family and they were poor.
Manager Bai chuckled, opened the door on his side, and entered the driver’s seat.
"Heard you were looking for ? What’s up?"
Wan Chu’er directed, "Follow the road to the end, turn right, and stop at the Glass Factory Family Quarters."
Manager Bai couldn’t help but remark, with a slight tease, "Wan Chu’er, I bet your mom doesn’t know how boldly you act, getting into a stranger’s car and bossily giving directions."
Wan Chu’er laughed and asked, "Aren’t you here to see ? Then what are you doing waiting at the school gate and honking at ?"
After thinking for a bit and to appease the affluent young man’s ego, she added, "Manager Bai, I know you’re not usually so pretentious. Let’s talk while we drive."
Manager Bai shook his head resignedly and started the car.
Wan Chu’er explained Liu Li’s situation and concluded, "I hope Heavenly World can sign a work contract with Liu Li and provide an advance of one thousand yuan."
Hearing this, Manager Bai’s eyes sparkled, asking, "What’s your plan? Tell more."
Wan Chu’er replied, "...Are you really that idle?"
"Yes, how did you know?"
Wan Chu’er frowned slightly, "Liu Li owes twelve hundred yuan and has almost paid back two hundred. I don’t want to keep haggling over small amounts each day; I want to settle it once and for all."
Manager Bai chuckled, "You’re essentially transferring the debt she owes you to . What’s in it for ? Why should I do this?"
Wan Chu’er was taken aback, right, she had only t Manager Bai a few tis, barely knew him, not even his first na; why would he help her? How could she take this for granted?
Her temperant hadn’t changed much.
Manager Bai thought his comnt might have upset her as Wan Chu’er didn’t respond for a while, he reassured, "No worries, I was just kidding. Helping you wouldn’t hurt ..."
"I can help you," Wan Chu’er suddenly said.
Manager Bai snorted, laughing, "What could a high school student help with? Introduce to a cleaner? Ha ha, if you really want to help, just make more varieties of those pickles from your ho."
Wan Chu’er seriously said, "I can help you, help you make more money."
She had lived an extra twenty years after all; while she may lack innovative ideas, she could imitate others.
She knew a bit about the most profitable industries of the future, how future business would operate, and could disclose a few stocks or top-tier companies for Manager Bai to invest in early. If he kept at it, he’d eventually make a fortune.
If she had the money, she’d buy so stocks herself to hold onto.
Alternatively, she could also offer so ideas to improve the operational approaches of Heavenly World, potentially increasing custor traffic.
