This situation isn’t right. If mories are awakened, they can only fill in the blanks, but they shouldn’t clash with the original ones. It feels like this whole segnt of his mory has been rewritten.

The feeling made him very uneasy, as if sothing was about to happen.

At this mont, Chu Chengfeng finally realized that nothing was like how he had first imagined—peaceful and trouble-free.

Perhaps from the mont he got entangled with Sima Xiaowen, his life back then, his life now, and his future life were dood never to be peaceful again!

But right now he was powerless, and he didn’t even know how to comfort Liu Ling. He clearly knew he was in the wrong, yet he couldn’t find the right words. Whatever he said felt pale and powerless. There really were things he’d done terribly.

So he didn’t bla Liu Ling.

He only blad himself for not handling everything properly.

So in so ways, he really was a rather unqualified Clan Leader.

But for the mont, he was still the only one with the bloodline of the two Phoenix Clans. Whether he wanted it or not, he had to be the Clan Leader.

Deep down, Chu Chengfeng let out a long sigh.

He waited until Liu Ling’s voice softened a bit, then said quietly, "I’ll co pick you up tomorrow morning. It’s really late now—go to bed early."

"Where are you going?" Liu Ling asked angrily, her eyes red and swollen.

Chu Chengfeng hesitated for a second, then slowly said, "I’ve been with you these past two days. I should go visit the four elders."

At this, Liu Ling really had nothing to say.

The past two days, that was indeed the case. She had been with Chu Chengfeng the whole ti.

"You say you’re going to see the four elders, but Elder Sima is one of them, and Sima Xiaowen will definitely be there. Are you going there to see her?"

Liu Ling asked, a little sharp and bitter.

This version of Liu Ling felt very unfamiliar, but Chu Chengfeng couldn’t bla her. Maybe she had beco like this because of him. At least, the Liu Ling in his mory had never been like this.

"Sima Xiaowen is, after all, one of our people. It’s impossible for not to see her. You know exactly what her attitude toward is. If you still can’t set your mind at ease, then there really is nothing more I can do."

After he finished, he didn’t wait for Liu Ling to speak. Chu Chengfeng pushed open the apartnt door, closed it behind him, and then strode away from his apartnt.

Liu Ling clenched her teeth hard, her face dark as water.

She quickly walked to the balcony and saw Chu Chengfeng get into his car and soon drive out of her sight.

On a long stretch of road, cars sped along both sides.

Chu Chengfeng gripped the steering wheel, his brows never relaxing, his thin lips pressed into a tight line.

His expression now was different from how it’d been in the apartnt.

There was a hard, cutting chill to him, like a millennium-old glacier that never lted.

The situation he was in now was not the life he wanted, so he had to resolve the dilemma in front of him and get back to a normal life.

If the elders of the clan saw him in this state, they would definitely scold him for being useless.

And just then, as if sothing in the dark was summoning him, Chu Chengfeng suddenly turned and looked to his left.

A red car brushed past his.

He rembered that car very clearly.

It was Sima Xiaowen’s. The color was as bold and beautiful as she was.

She must be coming back from the Ding Family Garden Villa.

He didn’t know if she was sad, if she had cried...

But what did that have to do with him?

Who was he, Chu Chengfeng, to think he had any right to care about Sima Xiaowen’s private affairs?

Not only did he have no right to care, he didn’t even have the right to ask anymore.

And in the instant the two cars passed each other, he clearly saw that the person behind the wheel was indeed Sima Xiaowen.

It happened too fast; he couldn’t see the look on Sima Xiaowen’s face.

Then the two cars headed toward different destinations, one to the south and one to the north, farther and farther apart.

Just like their past feelings and their current situation.

They would only drift further away, never again to intersect.

In fact, wasn’t this great? It could let both their lives return to peace.

But why?

Why did his heart hurt so badly?

That wrenching pain in his chest rose up again.

Chu Chengfeng knew that even after calling upon his Lifebound Spirit Fire, he still hadn’t been able to suppress that wisp of consciousness. It was simply too powerful. It might only be a fragnt, but its strength was almost on par with his primary consciousness.

If his head hadn’t been clear, they might already have rged by now.

But he would never allow that to happen.

Chu Chengfeng clenched his teeth.

He was gripping the steering wheel so hard that his knuckles turned white.

A red light appeared ahead, and Chu Chengfeng slowly brought the car to a stop, then balled his hand into a fist and slamd it hard against the steering wheel.

How had he managed to let his life get so ssy?

If he had known it would be like this, he might as well never have awakened, or simply never have entered the mundane world at all.

Then he wouldn’t have ended up in this neither-here-nor-there situation.

When the light turned green, Chu Chengfeng shook his head hard, as if shaking off all those thoughts, then started the car and drove slowly toward the courtyard where the four elders lived.

When he pushed open the courtyard gate, he was once again that slightly steady man with a hint of a smile between his brows—the Clan Leader of the Phoenix Clan.

anwhile, Qin Yize and Gu Qiaoqiao had already brought Xiao Bao and Xiao Bei ho.

Having kids really did make everything different.

Now Xiao Bao and Xiao Bei were at that age where they weren’t that big but could crawl incredibly fast, a ti when they couldn’t be left alone for a second.

So Gu Qiaoqiao and Qin Yize couldn’t possibly stay out all night and party until dawn like they used to.

So even though it was the first day of the new year, aside from going out to enjoy the lanterns with everyone, everything else was pretty much the sa as usual.

After Xiao Bao and Xiao Bei played with Old Grand Master Qin and Grandma Qin for a while, Qin Yize carried the two of them into the bathroom.

The tub was already filled with water, with a few plastic ducks floating on top, so little swans, and croaking frogs.

He set the two children inside.

Holding one in each hand, he started washing the two little ones.

The two kids couldn’t walk yet, but they were completely in their elent splashing around in the tub.

They got Gu Qiaoqiao and Qin Yize’s clothes soaked through.

At this rate, if the two of them didn’t get sleepy, they could probably play in that tub all night.

When Qin Yize felt it was about enough, he unceremoniously lifted the two little ones out. Gu Qiaoqiao wrapped them in big towels, dried them off, changed them into soft pajamas, and set them into the crib.

Only then did she quietly let out a breath.

He felt like these two little ones wore him out more than leading a team out on a mission ever had.

Gu Qiaoqiao chuckled. "Look at your clothes. Go get yourself cleaned up."

Qin Yize hadn’t noticed yet. When he lowered his head and took a look, he couldn’t help but purse his lips in a smile as well.
