Chapter 479: Chapter 474: The Bodhisattva Manifests
On the tenth day of the lunar calendar, Mu Jiawen wanted to visit Lanlìn Temple on the outskirts of Beijing to burn incense; despite being young, she was quite a believer in this.
After all, so things exist if you believe in them and don’t if you don’t.
Mu Chenyan simply called Yu Feng and Yu Ci along, as both happened to be off work today and were idle. anwhile, Yu Heng was with his wife and children at the old Yu Family house in Jade City, tending to ancestral worship for the New Year and hadn’t co back yet.
“Second Brother, I’ll ask the Buddha for a blessing later, I think your wife and I clash,” she said.
As soon as she said this, everyone in the car laughed, clearly aware of the recent twists in Yu Feng’s blind date.
Yu Feng told her, “The Buddha is too busy to care about trivial matters like ours.”
Jiang Yan laughed, “This wouldn’t be called a clash, but rather the mysterious ways of fate letting you help Second Brother screen out the duds and welco the one he’s truly destined to be with.”
Mu Jiawen’s eyes lit up, she turned to look at Jiang Yan, “You’re really good with words, that’s exactly it!”
Yu Ci snorted, “What a suck-up… ”
Mu Chenyan slapped him on the shoulder, “What suck-up? That’s called high emotional intelligence, unlike you. A few words from you and you make girls jump mad. I’m asking you, that girl nad… what’s her na… are you two still in contact?”
Before Yu Ci could speak, Yu Feng cut in, “Kerna Betty. She has been chasing him for eight years. Has she given up now? Why has there been no word from her?”
Mu Jiawen was unaware of this matter, and hearing her second brother speak of it, she imdiately widened her eyes in surprise, “Eight years? Who is she? Is her brain not working properly?”
Yu Ci gave her a sinister look.
Mu Jiawen quickly corrected herself, “I an, does she have myopia?”
You might as well just say she is blind.
“Pfft!”
Jiang Yan couldn’t help but laugh, one hand on the steering wheel while he took the opportunity to rub her head, “Calm down for a bit, stop talking for now.”
Regarding his sons’ love lives, Mu Chenyan didn’t really want to comnt, feeling sowhat guilty towards them.
Yet even so, sotis the things that needed to be said still had to be articulated, “Eight years is almost a girl’s entire youth, Yu Ci, do you really not have any feelings for this Nà…?”
Yu Ci was actually quite troubled by this as well. It wasn’t that Kerna wasn’t pestering him anymore; it was because he had returned to China, and she couldn’t find ti to follow him due to work commitnts. But he heard from classmates that Kerna planned to quit her job after completing her current project, then co to China to look for work.
This person really was… too stubborn.
“Mom, I’ll handle it,” he felt rather annoyed and didn’t want to talk about it further.
The group arrived at the foot of Lanlìn Temple and parked before heading up the mountain to burn incense.
Yu Feng didn’t want to go up and, looking at the surrounding scenery, felt it was quite nice. He told them he would take a walk around and et up with them later when they ca down.
He had no particular destination in mind and just casually strolled around. Before he knew it, he had wandered out of Lanlìn Temple’s vicinity, and when he looked up, he saw a towering and imposing tombstone ahead of him with three words inscribed: Lanlìn Tomb!
Having never been here before, Yu Feng didn’t know this was a martyrs’ morial. He only saw assorted sizes of chrysanthemums placed on the stone steps in front of the stele—so had withered, while others were in full bloom, obviously brought at different tis.
Standing at the bottom, he looked up at the stele and felt a sudden surge of indescribable lancholy.
“Doctor Yu?”
Just then, a slightly familiar voice ca through; Yu Feng turned to look and was surprised to see Yi Hailan in military uniform walking out from inside the cetery.
She walked over to Yu Feng with a steady stride and asked with a smile, “Doctor Yu, what brings you here? This area is the martyrs’ cetery, and it’s not open to the general public.”
Yu Feng smiled, “My mom and sister went to Lanlìn Temple to burn incense, and I was just wandering around because I was bored. What about you…?”
Actually, what he asked was nonsense—it was obvious that Yi Hailan was here to pay her respects, but who was the person and what was their relationship to her?
“I ca to visit my comrade-in-arms, and speaking of which, I still need to thank Doctor Yu. You perford surgery to remove her mother’s brain tumor, and I ca to let her know, so she can be at ease.”
Yu Feng looked at her in surprise, the woman whom Yi Hailan had brought to Beijing and placed in a general ward—an ordinary-looking rural woman who was, in fact, the mother of a martyr!
“You should have said so earlier, our hospital has special treatnt for the families of martyrs, including so reduction in dical expenses.”
Yi Hailan responded helplessly, “Auntie Liu doesn’t want special treatnt, she doesn’t wish to make a fuss. I thought it wasn’t a big deal, so I agreed.”
“No problem, when I go to work tomorrow, I will speak to the hospital about it. The discount will be automatically applied when you settle the bill at discharge.”
“Thank you so much.”
Yi Hailan was pleased to save money, after all, neither Auntie Liu nor she had much to spare.
The two stood in front of the tombstone chatting, with Yi Hailan occasionally looking up at the tall monunt. Among the nurous, sowhat obscure nas on it were those of her parents.
Ti flew by without their notice, and they ended up talking for nearly an hour.
Yi Hailan looked at her watch and said apologetically, “I should go back now.”
Yu Feng nodded, “My mom and sister should be coming down soon too. How did you get here?”
“I drove here. Parking isn’t allowed in this area, so I parked at the Lanlìn Temple parking lot.”
“That’s perfect, I’m heading in that direction as well.”
The two walked together to the parking lot entrance, just as Mu Chenyan and the others were reaching the foot of the mountain.
Mu Jiawen, with her keen eyes, saw her second brother chatting and laughing with a military officer who was dressed in a uniform and projected a dashing aura. She imdiately grabbed Jiang Yan’s arm beside her in excitent and exclaid, “The bodhisattva has shown a miracle!”
Everyone looked up to see Yu Feng talking and laughing with soone while also gentlemanly shielding her with his arm whenever a car passed by. Anyone could tell that his gesture was a bit unusual.
Known for their stunning good looks, the Yu brothers generally maintained a certain distance from won unless… they were interested.
Mu Jiawen couldn’t help but feel emotional, “True to form, my second brother’s taste is exactly like mine.”
Yu Ci glanced at her indifferently and snorted coldly.
Ignoring him, Mu Jiawen retorted, “What are you ‘humphing’ at? If you’re capable, find yourself a female military officer too… so cool!”
Yu Ci: …
Isn’t it too late for Kerna to join the military now?
Just as this thought flashed through his mind, he was taken aback by it himself.
Wait, why was he thinking of Kerna at a ti like this?
The two groups t at the entrance to the parking lot. Mu Jiawen called out to Yu Feng, “Second Brother,” but her eyes were fixed on Yi Hailan.
Yi Hailan also looked towards Mu Jiawen, a hint of surprise flashing across her eyes before she couldn’t help but complint, “Doctor Yu, your sister is very beautiful!”
“She’s alright, she looks a bit like ,” Yu Feng replied calmly before introducing her to Mu Chenyan and Yu Ci, Jiang Yan.
Even if Yi Hailan was a bit slow in certain aspects, she could tell the looks she received from the Yu family were sowhat unusual. She turned to look at Yu Feng and her pretty face turned slightly red as she thought to herself that they must have misunderstood—how could she and Doctor Yu think of going in that direction when they had only known each other for a few days?
And besides, doesn’t Doctor Yu… have a girlfriend?
