Chapter 166: Chapter 163: Autumn Clothing and Trousers (Second Update)

Yang Dan did not stay for lunch; after the second child left, she soon returned to her school.

The excitent that filled her heart upon arrival had cooled down significantly by the ti she headed back.

Jiang Yan told her not to ntion the matter of earning money to her parents just yet. Though the five thousand yuan seed like a lot on hand, she must not forget that she still had four years of university to go, and her salary was not stable. The most important thing was that she had nobody to rely on.

To truly feel confident, she needed at least one hundred thousand yuan in her bank account.

This number was like a bucket of cold water, instantly calming Yang Dan.

She had plans to pursue a master’s degree. With four years of undergraduate study and three years of graduate school, one hundred thousand yuan might not even be enough.

It was narrow-minded of her to think about improving her parents’ lives and repaying debts and favors with so little money. But what about after that? How could she ensure her own education?

Sitting on the bus, Yang Dan’s originally restless heart gradually settled down, and her gaze beca firm!

…..

Song Jiawen and Yu Ci waited downstairs for over an hour, and she was becoming impatient when Mu Chenyan and the others finally ca down.

During this ti, Mu Zhe and Mu Wan had not left, and they both stood up as soon as they saw Mu Chenyan.

“Did you get anxious? Mom will take you to eat,” Mu Chenyan said.

Mu Chenyan did not pay attention to Mu Zhe and Mu Wan; she walked straight to Song Jiawen, affectionately brushed her hair behind her ear, and her eyes were so gentle it seed as if they could drip water.

At this, Mu Zhe was completely certain that this girl was indeed their little cousin.

“Auntie.”

Hearing the call, Mu Chenyan, who was holding Song Jiawen’s hand and walking out, stopped and turned her head.

Her gaze toward the Mu siblings was complex, but in the end, she said nothing and turned to leave.

“Brother.”

Mu Wan tugged at her elder brother’s sleeve, her lips pursed and her voice filled with grievance, “Auntie is so heartless.” They did not recognize them, but what did the adults’ mistakes have to do with their children?

Mu Zhe did not speak and then led Mu Wan out of the café.

On another note, Mu Chenyan did not discuss the divorce much with Song Jiawen. After the mother and children had their al, she sent the three Brother Yu Hengs away and took Song Jiawen shopping for clothes.

For items like coats and shoes, she could buy them directly for her, but it’s best to try on underwear.

Mu Chenyan had not strolled through a mall for a long ti; she usually went straight to a few fixed stores, grabbed what was suitable and left.

Now, as she and her daughter leisurely moved from the first floor to the second, from one store to another… such a scene had only appeared in her dreams before. Now that the dream had co true, Mu Chenyan turned to look at her younger daughter and felt sowhat dazed for a mont.

Song Jiawen was still in her developntal stages, and the underwear she was wearing was indeed a bit tight, so she didn’t refuse her mother’s kindness. At an underwear shop, she tried on five sets, and feeling that they fit well, she bought them all.

In addition to underwear, they also picked up thermal long johns and shirts as cold weather was approaching.

The mother and daughter continued to the next store, where Mu Chenyan found a sweater in a color and style she liked. She picked a suitable size and went to the fitting room to try it on.

Song Jiawen watched the fitting room for a mont then suddenly turned and quickly went back to the neighboring underwear store, whispering to the saleswoman while pointing at n’s thermal wear on the rack, “Size 190, two sets, please.”

The saleswoman was enthusiastic toward the custor who had just bought five sets of underwear and four sets of thermals, “We also have other designs for n besides this one…”

“This design is fine, please hurry,” Song Jiawen interrupted.

The saleswoman opened her mouth but, seeing the custor’s decisiveness, quickly closed it, turned around, and efficiently grabbed two sets to package.

“No need to package them, just leave them here, I’ll pay now!”

Song Jiawen took the two sets of thick thermals from the saleswoman, pulled out the cardboard used to keep the clothes shaped and placed it on the counter. Then she neatly folded and rolled the clothes, tucked them at the bottom of her own bag, and piled her clothes on top.

After giving the paper bag a final shake, she looked down and saw that her own clothing completely covered those two sets of large thermal underwear, not showing any trace of them.

Perfect!

She paid contentedly and then quickly walked back to the sweater shop under the inquisitive gaze of the sales associate.

Just then, Mu Chenyan ca out of the fitting room with a new sweater on, “Xiaosi, does mom look good in this one?”

Song Jiawen nodded earnestly, “Not bad.”

“I think so too, oh right, try on that white turtleneck sweater… Put your bag down, isn’t it heavy carrying it around like that?”

…..

Song Jiawen returned to school after dinner.

At half-past eight, Jiang Yan waited for her under the girls’ dormitory, and when he saw her coming with a black bag in her hand, he felt it was strange. What was she carrying this ti?

It couldn’t possibly be sanitary pads again, but he no longer needed them.

In fact, the pack from last ti was still stuffed in a corner of his drawer, unused till now.

“What is it?”

Song Jiawen said calmly, “Thermal underwear, my mom saw them when she was buying mine and picked up two sets for you as well.”

Jiang Yan opened it and felt the material; one look told him it wasn’t cheap. He wanted to find the price tag to check the price, but after searching, he couldn’t find it.

Had it been cut off and thrown away?

Giving him clothes would normally be a happy occasion, but…

“This isn’t a bag for clothes, is it?”

He looked at the black plastic bag, puzzled, as it seed very much like a trash bag.

Song Jiawen: ….

She indeed hadn’t paid attention to this detail, just… habitually grabbed a black bag.

But did it matter?

She glared at him, “If you don’t want it, give it back to , and I’ll give it to my elder brother.”

Jiang Yan imdiately hid the bag behind him and laughed, “How can you take back sothing once you’ve given it away? That’s not done.”

He had been aning to ask her how she managed to buy thermal underwear for him in front of her mom. After all, such intimate clothing isn’t usually bought for soone unless there’s a close relationship.

But now, seeing the black bag, he understood everything. That cheeky girl must have bought it behind her mom’s back.

Still, Jiang Yan was happy. The fact that she thought of him while others were preparing clothes for her was a good beginning and a fresh start.

The two sat down at their usual spot and Jiang Yan asked her, “How was your day?”

He knew she had changed her na to Mu Jiawen, though it was not yet changed at school, but it wouldn’t last past the next sester. By then, all her docunts and records would be updated.

“It was okay. I wasn’t really listening. My mom wants to divorce Yu Zekun, he was whining and it was annoying, so I went down to have coffee with my third brother. Oh, right, the old house in Jade City was given to my elder brother because he is the eldest son and grandson, I guess. My share…”

Song Jiawen tilted her head, trying to rember. She hadn’t looked closely, just signed wherever her mom told her to. As for how much property it was or what it consisted of, she genuinely didn’t pay much attention.

Jiang Yan wasn’t particularly interested in this either. He was about to steer the conversation towards Yang Dan’s matter when he suddenly heard the word “study abroad” from her.

Jiang Yan turned abruptly, “You’re going to study abroad?”
