Si Yuhuan had an allergic reaction to fur and rushed to the hospital.
The doctor, sweating profusely while administering an IV, didn’t forget to remind him, "Director Si, I’ve told you many tis, with your fur allergy, you absolutely must not keep pets. If this continues, it could cost you your life."
By this ti, Si Yuhuan’s body was covered in red rashes, looking rather terrifying.
"Cut the crap and make this itching stop!" He had already scratched several bloody marks onto his skin.
"What can be done? When did you ever knowingly keep a pet despite your allergies? This is just..." The doctor swallowed the words ’asking for it’ before he could finish.
Yan Qing rushed in from outside and exclaid, "Director Si, did your wife use the cat on you again? That’s just too malicious..."
He saw the doctor, then Si Yuhuan’s face, dark as ink, and froze awkwardly.
Director Si looks so terrible. Did I say sothing wrong?
The doctor understood. So, his wife was the one who got him. Tsk tsk! What a henpecked husband!
"All of you, get out!"
Si Yuhuan was furious. His lifelong reputation was being ruined.
Yan Qing steeled himself. "Director Si, there’s news from the police station. They said the clue provided by your wife was very useful. They’ve found out that the person who deliberately pushed the child down the slope is a relative of Miss Jiang Qing’s secretary, Xiaozhang."
Si Yuhuan furrowed his brows, a flash of surprise in his eyes.
"Just fifteen minutes ago, Miss Jiang said she couldn’t reach your mobile phone and was already on her way to the hospital. She should be arriving soon."
Yan Qing had barely finished speaking when—
BANG! The door was pushed open.
Jiang Qing ran inside, her steps unsteady. As a major star, she always paid great attention to her image. At this mont, however, she looked sowhat disheveled. Several clumps of damp hair clung to her sweat-beaded face, making her look utterly pitiful.
"Yuhan, are you okay?"
She rushed over, anxiously looking him up and down. "How did you have an allergic reaction? Don’t you know it can be fatal in severe cases? What did the doctor say? Do you need to be hospitalized?"
Faced with her panic, Si Yuhuan calmly created so distance between them by pushing her away slightly.
This subtle act of rejection sent a sharp pang through Jiang Qing.
In the past, no matter what she did to displease him, he would never have been so distant.
The first taste of such a setback left her feeling rather embarrassed.
"Yuhan..." She cautiously lifted her head to look at him, her eyes red. "Are you angry with ?"
She anxiously grabbed Si Yuhuan’s arm. "Xiaozhang truly didn’t an to do such a foolish thing! She has a crush on Junyan, and with how Jian Xi was treating Junyan, she just wanted to give Jian Xi a little payback..."
Jiang Qing lowered her head. "I’m too ashad to face you. I can’t even manage my own assistant properly, and she almost hard your wife. I will leave China and, from now on, never appear before you and Miss Jian again."
As she spoke, she handed over a stack of docunts. "These are my savings from over the years. It might not be enough to cover the cost of one of Miss Jian’s properties, but it’s the most I can offer as compensation."
She adopted an attitude of utmost humility.
Just then, Yan Qing received a call from the police station.
"Xiaozhang has turned herself in."
Si Yuhuan’s heart, which had grown cold, wavered slightly.
Jiang Qing bit her lip and thrust all the docunts detailing her assets into Si Yuhuan’s hands.
Jian Xi walked in at that very mont.
Zhou Yan had called, saying Si Yuhuan might be in mortal danger. Since it happened at the Jian Family Old House, she couldn’t just ignore it. She had been thinking her revenge was too excessive and might lead to legal trouble, feeling a slight pang of guilt. She never expected to walk in on a scene like this.
"Oh! Holding hands now?" she remarked with a chuckle as she walked over.
Si Yuhuan imdiately pushed Jiang Qing away.
That was the second ti he’s pushed away today, Jiang Qing thought, clenching her fists so tightly her knuckles turned white.
"Miss Jian, you’ve misunderstood," Jiang Qing said. "I ca to give you so of my savings as compensation. The whole truth is out now. My assistant resented you and used the car accident to harm both you and Zhou Yan, causing losses for New Fashion dia. A simple ’sorry’ isn’t enough to express my apologies. I could only co in person to offer this as a token of my sincerity. If you’re still not satisfied, I can continue to earn money to repay you."
Hah! What a perfect little white lotus. She’d said everything, hadn’t she? Painting herself as completely innocent. Now, if I were to make a fuss, I’d look petty and vindictive. Jian Xi had never encountered soone so shaless. Always playing the victim, making n want to move heaven and earth for her. Why can’t I ever learn such a masterful, shaless skill!
Jian Xi sneered. "If you want to compensate , why are you looking for Si Yuhuan at the hospital? Wasn’t I perfectly fine at the Jian residence?"
Her words drained all color from Jiang Qing’s face.
It was Si Yuhuan who spoke. "Jian Xi, don’t go too far."
Jian Xi roared, "Am I the one going too far, or is she the one putting on an act? I’m the one who got hurt! I’m the one who should be compensated! What’s the point of her coming to you? Si Yuhuan, can’t even your allergies stop you from chasing won?"
And to think I rushed over here in the middle of the night, despite not feeling well. What a complete waste of effort!
Si Yuhuan also flared up. He was itching like crazy, and it was all Jian Xi’s fault! This damn woman had embarrassed him and caused him physical suffering, and now she was here, shouting and making a scene! How utterly inappropriate!
"It’s not like ngng did any of this on purpose. She’s innocent," Si Yuhuan retorted. "She’s already done so much. You don’t need to keep harping on it."
"Harping on it? I’ll harp on your entire family!" Jian Xi seethed, her chest heaving as she pointed at Si Yuhuan. "Only a blind man like you would fall for such a damn white lotus! You rotten bastard! I hope you itch to death!"
Losing all control, she violently shoved Jiang Qing aside and stord out, slamming the door behind her.
Jiang Qing burst into tears. "I’m sorry, I’m truly sorry! I didn’t an for this to happen. I didn’t know it would lead to such consequences. It’s all my fault. Why did I even co to the hospital to see you? I’ll go apologize to Miss Jian right now."
Catching Si Yuhuan’s subtle glance, Yan Qing imdiately stepped in to block her. "Miss Jiang, perhaps it’s best if you head back for now. I’m here. As for Madam Jian, it’s probably best not to seek her out and face another confrontation. The Boss isn’t feeling well. Could you please let him rest for a while?"
"Okay, I’m so sorry. I’ll co visit tomorrow," she replied, knowing when to make a graceful exit.
Once everyone had left, Si Yuhuan massaged his throbbing temples, his dark eyes clouded with gloom.
Only Yan Qing, an observer, noticed that Si Yuhuan had genuinely changed. If this had happened in the past, regardless of who was actually in the wrong, Jian Xi would have undoubtedly been blad. Such unquestioning bias in Jiang Qing’s favor had beco his habit. But now, Si Yuhuan hesitated.
After storming out, Jian Xi imdiately sped towards ho, flooring the accelerator as if to vent all her anger.
The cars behind her honked incessantly.
Soon, her cell phone rang.
Jian Xi picked it up. Seeing the caller ID, she frowned slightly. Then, glancing in her rearview mirror, she was surprised to see that he had followed her.
She made a turn, hit the brakes, and pulled her car over into a vacant lot on the side of the road.
