The students were terrified and had already scattered, vanishing without a trace.
Suddenly, a crowd surged forward.
A suspicious figure darted away quickly.
Jian Xi saw that this person was the main culprit who had pushed the student down the slope.
Without hesitation, she flung open the car door and yelled, "You, stop right there!"
The person ran even faster.
Concerned bystanders rushed up. "Young lady, your forehead is bleeding! Are you okay?"
Jian Xi, fuming, could only stomp her foot. She couldn’t lose her temper at these well-aning people, so she managed to say, "I’m fine."
The imdiate priority wasn’t to identify the culprit behind the car accident. Jian Xi imdiately turned to check on the car she had rear-ended.
She never imagined she would hit Zhou Yan. It was a terrible mishap, like the great flood washing over the Dragon King’s temple—hitting one of her own.
Zhou Yan had a gash on his arm, oozing blood. Ignoring his own injury, he apologized to Jian Xi, "I’m sorry, Senior Sister. It’s all my driver’s fault for not braking in ti. Are you hurt?"
Jian Xi’s head was spinning, and the lingering fear from the accident made her tremble uncontrollably. "My forehead’s cut," she managed, her voice shaky. "I’ll take you to the hospital."
That was a living human being!
The culprit was simply detestable!
Luckily, it was Zhou Yan; otherwise, today’s incident might not have ended well.
「In the hospital.」
Zhou Yan’s arm received fifteen stitches, and Jian Xi couldn’t escape the misfortune of getting three more stitches on her forehead.
Her Fourth Brother, Jian Sirun, called imdiately. "How did you get hurt again? Was it Si Yuhuan’s doing?"
"No!" Jian Xi explained. "It really has nothing to do with him. It was a minor car accident. I bumped into a friend."
She couldn’t bring herself to voice her suspicion that the car accident might have been orchestrated by soone behind the scenes.
She was afraid of worrying her family.
"Alright then, be careful. I’ve made arrangents with the hospital. You focus on getting treatnt, and rember to apply the ointnt I gave you; it can prevent scarring and is very effective."
Jian Xi nodded repeatedly. As the initial shock wore off, warmth gradually returned to her chilled body. She also had a doting family who cherished her unconditionally; she had to be strong. "Thank you, Fourth Brother," she said.
After she hung up, Wan Yu rushed into the room like a whirlwind.
She embraced Jian Xi in a bear hug. "Thank the heavens you’re alive; that’s all that matters! Let see where you got hurt. How could you be so careless?"
"Senior Sister, this dicine..." Zhou Yan, who had returned with the dicine, saw Wan Yu and awkwardly scratched the back of his head.
"Ah!" Wan Yu let out an ear-piercing scream, lunging forward to cradle Zhou Yan’s arm, tears welling in her eyes. "What have you done to yourself?"
"Good heavens! You have a crucial press conference next week for New Fashion dia! They’re counting on you for a brilliant coback. If your hand is injured, how will you charm the young ladies and make money for ?"
Zhou Yan looked utterly exasperated, nearly clapping a hand over Wan Yu’s mouth. "Sister Yu, please, stop talking!"
"Why shouldn’t I speak? Damn it! Soone dared to ss with my talent? They’re really asking for death..."
"It was !"
Before Wan Yu could finish her tirade, Jian Xi admitted it.
The atmosphere instantly beca awkward; the ranting stopped abruptly.
Wan Yu’s brain seed to freeze. "Wait a minute, you hit Zhou Yan with your car?"
"To be precise, I rear-ended Senior Sister," Zhou Yan quickly interjected, taking the bla. "I saw Senior Sister leaving the company and told my driver to follow her. I just didn’t expect an accident to happen on the way. It wasn’t intentional on Senior Sister’s part. In any case, it’s all my fault. Don’t worry, I will compensate New Fashion dia for all the impact and losses."
At that mont, a police officer ca in.
"May I ask who Miss Jian Xi is?"
Jian Xi imdiately stepped forward. "I am."
It turned out that because of the traffic accident, the traffic police had been alerted. Jian Xi was asked to go to the police station to cooperate with their inquiries.
Wan Yu followed close behind. "Don’t be afraid, I’m here."
Zhou Yan also wanted to get into the car.
Jian Xi, however, was relatively calm. She told Zhou Yan, "You’re the victim. You need to stay in the hospital for observation and treatnt. Don’t get involved in this ss."
"But Senior Sister..."
"Listen to . It’ll be fine." Jian Xi gave him a reassuring look.
「Police station.」
Jian Xi began giving her statent.
"At that ti, I saw a student suddenly rushing down the slope. I imdiately slamd on the brakes and subsequently rear-ended the car in front. I suspect the student was pushed. Please investigate imdiately. There was a man in the crowd wearing a baseball cap whose behavior was suspicious."
The police officers nodded. Their own preliminary investigation had also led them to believe there was sothing suspicious about the accident.
But without substantial evidence, they could only continue the investigation based on Jian Xi’s statent.
"Very well, thank you for your cooperation."
"As long as you’re okay, Senior Sister." Zhou Yan hadn’t waited at the hospital as instructed but had co to the station to be with her.
Jian Xi felt a mix of helplessness and exasperation. "You didn’t even get a proper check-up! What are you doing here?" she chided.
"I was worried about you!"
Wan Yu clicked her tongue, deliberately teasing, "TSK TSK TSK. You’re seriously injured yourself, yet you’re still so concerned about your Senior Sister. Don’t tell you’ve fallen for our Xixi?"
Zhou Yan’s handso face instantly turned crimson, a blush typical of an innocent, sunny young man. "I was just worried Senior Sister would be scared, so I ca to lend her so moral support."
He was very dependable, more so than any man Jian Xi had ever t. Though young, he possessed those ’boyfriend material’ qualities and was impeccably considerate.
Many tis Jian Xi thought that dating Zhou Yan would be a very happy experience.
Unfortunately, they weren’t suitable for each other.
Worried that Jian Xi was cold, Zhou Yan thoughtfully handed her a hot water bottle.
It might have been a bit too hot.
The tips of Jian Xi’s slender, pale fingers recoiled upon touching it.
Zhou Yan imdiately reached for her hand. "Are you alright? It’s my fault. I forgot n have tougher skin; you might get burned."
As if struck by lightning.
This sensation of his touch...
Jian Xi’s face instantly turned a deep shade of red.
Just as their eyes t, Director Si Yuhuan strode in, his presence commanding.
Jian Xi imdiately pulled her hand away.
His suit trousers accentuated his long, straight legs, and he carried an imposing aura, as if surveying his domain, which made the female officers present swoon. Si Yuhuan was invariably the center of attention wherever he went.
Jian Xi hadn’t expected him to co.
The police officers greeted him with a nod. It seed no one was giving her a hard ti, and the police were taking this case so seriously, probably because he had intervened.
Wan Yu coughed awkwardly and whispered an apology to Jian Xi, "Before I ca in, I was worried things might get complicated, so I called Si Yuhuan."
After saying that, she grabbed Zhou Yan and they darted off.
Zhou Yan didn’t forget to say to Si Yuhuan, "Senior Sister is injured, Director Si. Please take good care of her."
"How I take care of my woman is none of your business."
He was as domineering as ever.
Wan Yu stomped her foot. "Alright, nothing more for us to do here! Let’s scram!"
Jian Xi couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
Wan Yu truly was the ultimate frenemy! Selling her out at a critical mont like this!
Si Yuhuan’s deep eyes stared at her intently.
Just when Jian Xi expected his usual sarcasm, he slowly asked, "Does your head still hurt?"
Si Yuhuan frowned, his gaze fixed on the newly stitched wound on her forehead. He forcibly suppressed the anger surging within him. That mont Zhou Yan had gripped her hand... he’d really wanted to beat Zhou Yan to a pulp.
