The nursing ho was built on the hillside. It primarily catered to wealthy elderly individuals who could afford the high residency fees.
In fact, Jian Xi knew that those who could live here were all close friends of the Si Family. They were a group of people who gathered boisterously and often discussed the unfinished business of the younger generation.
The complex covered several thousand square ters, backed by mountains and surrounded by water. The architecture was predominantly traditional Chinese, evoking the grandeur of a large estate. Beyond the entrance gates, pavilions, terraces, towers, and verandas were all present. Rockeries, flowing water, and fountains trickled pleasantly, creating an atmosphere of elegant majesty and a lingering sense of relaxation.
As Jian Xi walked in, an attendant imdiately ca forward.
It seed the Old Master had given special instructions for soone to be waiting.
"Young Master, Madam, please wait a mont. The Old Master is with guests. Please follow ."
Jian Xi nodded obediently.
She didn’t need to put on airs with elders, and she harbored no hostility towards Old Master Si. After all, when Si Yuhuan, instigated by Jiang Qing, had wanted to ruin her family, it was Old Master Si who had stepped in. He had preserved their last chance for survival and hadn’t insisted on sending her father to prison, which would have been utter annihilation.
The attendant led them to the dining room.
Si Yuhuan was on his phone, talking to soone. Jian Xi went in first and picked up a pastry, starting to eat.
She was quite hungry. She’d been through so much for so long and was utterly exhausted.
When Si Yuhuan ca in and saw her eating so uncouthly, he couldn’t help frowning.
TCH! Jian Xi rolled her eyes and deliberately licked her fingers.
Si Yuhuan’s handso face darkened further. "Can’t you just..."
He was about to say sothing when a high-pitched voice called out from the doorway, "If you like it, eat more. Take a few boxes with you when you leave. This chef is newly hired, and his food is excellent—not too sweet, not too rich. These particular ones were specially prepared for you."
The old man’s fondness for Jian Xi was apparent.
Upon seeing Old Master Si, Si Yuhuan imdiately went to support him.
Old Master Si glanced at him sideways, shook off his arm, and beckoned to Jian Xi. "Xixi, co here."
Jian Xi relished the sight of soone putting the high and mighty Si Yuhuan in his place, especially when it made him lose face in public. That felt even better. She pushed past the disgruntled Si Yuhuan, who had nowhere to vent his anger, and supported Old Master Si. "Grandpa, how has your health been recently?"
"Good. It would be even better if you two ca to see more often."
Old Master Si’s usually stern face always softened when he spoke to Jian Xi.
"We will! But I’m afraid that after so ti..." Jian Xi trailed off.
Old Master Si sat down and gestured for her to sit as well. "Afraid of what?"
Jian Xi smiled faintly. "I won’t have the chance to co see you so freely. Si Yuhuan and I are planning to get..."
"Divorce?" The old man instantly beca agitated. He pointed his cane at Si Yuhuan, roaring, "Are you trying to anger to death? Seeing still able to breathe makes you unhappy, doesn’t it?"
The old man suffered from chronic illnesses common in the elderly. Even with excellent care and a professional dical team, he couldn’t withstand such a furious outburst, and his breathing quickly beca labored.
Jian Xi could tell Si Yuhuan had brought her to the nursing ho today to test the waters. However, he probably hadn’t expected Old Master Si to react so strongly. He was clearly frightened and had imdiately called the family doctor.
What was supposed to be a family dinner had turned into this.
Si Yuhuan glared fiercely at Jian Xi. She simply spread her hands. "Well, it’s the truth."
"Did I give you permission to speak?" he demanded, veins throbbing on his temples with anger.
"But you didn’t tell I couldn’t speak when we ca. Subconsciously, that ans I could," Jian Xi leaned closer to Si Yuhuan. "You were just eager for to say it, to absolve yourself, weren’t you?"
The man’s dark, inscrutable eyes flickered.
Jian Xi fearlessly continued to provoke him, "You dare to do it but not to admit it. Why else would you have co here with ? It’s better to confess your ulterior motives. Then I might at least respect you as a man."
Si Yuhuan was left completely humiliated.
Just as he was about to retort, the doctor ca out.
"How are the results?" Si Yuhuan, despite everything, was still a filial son.
Jian Xi found it hard to even look at him now. In her previous life, he had chosen to lay his cards on the table for Jiang Qing’s sake, unwilling to aggrieve Jiang Qing, which had resulted in Old Master Si being hospitalized repeatedly.
Si Yuhuan, infatuated and led astray by beauty, was truly detestable.
Thinking of this, her expression turned colder.
The doctor said, "Old Master Si has a very serious heart condition and high blood pressure. He must not be agitated. You need to be gentle and agreeable with him in all matters. Otherwise, it could trigger a stroke, which could be life-threatening."
Si Yuhuan clenched his fists. "From now on, don’t you ever ntion divorce again."
Jian Xi hadn’t planned on ntioning it again anyway.
But his attitude infuriated her.
He turned, saw her cold expression, and his anger flared. "Don’t be so unappreciative."
Jian Xi laughed. "Do you think your marriage to is so kind of charitable gift you’ve bestowed?"
"Si Yuhuan, you still haven’t grasped the situation. Give what I’m due, and let’s get this divorce over with imdiately."
Her attitude was as resolute as ever; she clearly wasn’t joking.
Suddenly, Si Yuhuan no longer wanted to dwell on this topic.
His mobile phone suddenly rang.
Jian Xi couldn’t hear what Jiang Qing was saying sweetly on the other end, but Si Yuhuan hurried outside to take the call.
Jian Xi glanced at his furrowed brow. Based on the timing, Jiang Qing was probably getting antsy ahead of schedule and planning to make her move in the business world.
In her mory, Jiang Qing had no real business acun. However, with Si Yuhuan backing her, big and small deals constantly ca her way. She even thought she was incredibly capable, her ambitions ballooning to the point where she wanted to swallow the Jian Group whole.
This ti, Jian Xi vowed, if Jiang Qing dared make even the slightest move, she would ensure her end would be horrific.
Jian Xi went in to see Old Master Si.
Old Master Si took her hand. "It’s my fault. You’ve suffered. Only you can tolerate Yuhan’s bad temper. I know you love him, and I will always be on your side."
Jian Xi’s lips moved slightly, but no words ca out.
"Rember, hearts are made of flesh; they can be softened. Especially when a woman pursues a man, it’s said there’s only a thin veil between them."
Jian Xi was so amused by Old Master Si’s words she almost burst out laughing.
She had chased him for so many years but had never managed to tear through that gossar layer. In the end, she had t a miserable death. How could she dare to entertain such extravagant hopes now?
"But Grandfather, he doesn’t love . There’s no use in my chasing him." Jian Xi thought, hoping to subtly change Old Master Si’s mind over ti. Maybe one day he’d see reason and agree to Si Yuhuan divorcing her. If so, perhaps considering how she had shalessly pestered Si Yuhuan for so long, he might give her a larger share of the family assets?
"It’s useful! Grandfather will help you. Everything is already prepared. Don’t worry."
Hmm?
Jian Xi was puzzled, but before she could ask further, Si Yuhuan entered the room.
"Grandfather, it’s our fault for being immature and doing the wrong thing. Please don’t take it seriously. At your age, you shouldn’t get too worked up. Please take care of your health," Si Yuhuan said.
Old Master Si’s face was stern. "If you treat Xixi well and make your life together work, then I’ll be happy."
"Then what do you want us to do?" Si Yuhuan asked, trying to remain patient, his voice laced with helplessness.
At this, Old Master Si brightened. "You two will stay here for the next few days."
"What?" Jian Xi and Si Yuhuan exclaid in unison.
