Li Si only had a few bites before putting down her chopsticks.
She turned her head to observe the lively scene. That "Sixth Brother" was sitting next to Leng Mochen, his posture was perfectly upright, giving off an impression of sitting like a statue.
She speculated inwardly that perhaps this man had once served in the military.
Although his temples were graying, his appearance still hinted at a youthful handsoness, with a stern aura between his brows and eyes.
He was speaking with Leng Mochen in a quiet, restrained tone—not overly warm, but calm and composed.
Under the table, Li Si used playful gestures, tracing a "?" in Leng Mochen’s palm.
Leng Mochen responded with a faint smile and took her small hand, tracing "!" lightly on her palm with his fingertip.
Watching the affectionate interaction between the two, Lu Qilin let out a sigh and suddenly remarked, "Speaking of which, if my eldest son were still here this year, he should have gotten married and had children by now. You bear so resemblance to him!"
The fingers intertwined between Li Si and Leng Mochen abruptly tightened, clenching each other’s hand.
Neither of them had anticipated this person to suddenly bring up such a topic.
To ntion this while still newly acquainted, and at soone else’s wedding banquet—was this really appropriate?
Or had he keenly sensed sothing?
But how could that be? Unless he possessed so kind of mind-reading technique!
Leng Mochen’s heart stirred, though outwardly he only responded casually, "How so?"
Even though the situation struck him as peculiar, he was curious as to what Lu Qilin would say in describing Lu Zhenghang.
Despite the fact that this lifeti’s Lu Zhenghang had passed away early and was not the sa person as he was.
Li Si also waited with bated breath for an answer. This man didn’t seem like soone with a simple mind, and his words likely held deeper implications.
Lu Qilin rubbed his thumb against his forefinger, his gaze filled with nostalgia. "Your temperant! You both share a similar air. And your expressions—that detached feeling, as though nothing really matters in the world." After speaking, he seed to realize the inappropriate nature of his remarks and hurriedly waved his hand, "Ah, look at . The older I get, the muddier my brain becos. Why did I bring that up? My apologies, my apologies!"
Leng Mochen eyed him coldly, his thin lips forming two clipped words: "No problem."
Was this a test?
Li Si’s eyes flickered faintly, a plan forming in her mind.
It seed that Lu Qilin wasn’t exactly ordinary!
Nearby, Long Wu had been quietly observing them. He overheard this exchange, words deep despite shallow acquaintance, and couldn’t help but smirk slyly, "Ah, so that’s how it is!"
No wonder the old man kept babbling about an inexplicable sense of familiarity—it turns out Leng Er resembles the other guy’s son!
At that mont, Xu Er’s groomsman ca over to invite Long Wu to another table. The group he was joining were all car enthusiasts; gathering together ant so drinks and spirited banter.
Everyone knew Leng Er’s temperant—he wasn’t keen on joining such discussions, especially since he was accompanied by his family and seated elsewhere. The groomsman didn’t insist, and Long Wu promptly moved to another table.
Soon after, Lu Qilin was invited by Mr. Bai to another table as well. As he left, he specially handed Leng Mochen an unusual black business card bearing only his na and phone number.
Li Si twirled the card between her fingers, examining it for a long ti before giving up. She leaned close and whispered softly, "The card itself doesn’t seem anything special. Why did he hand it over with such care?"
Leng Mochen gripped her hand, glanced around, then replied coolly, "Perhaps because it’s rare."
This lifeti’s Lu Qilin was completely different from the previous one. He had to tread carefully and avoid treating the man as just an ordinary acquaintance!
"Oh!" Li Si also knew that this wasn’t the right ti for a deeper discussion, so she didn’t press further.
At this point, Su ng’s phone rang. After answering it and glancing at Li Si, her expression shifted slightly. "Alright, noted! I’ll tell her!"
"What’s wrong, ng ng? Who was the call from?" Li Si asked shakily. Having just been unsettled by earlier events, she was now on edge. Her first instinct was to think of Buding.
Lightning-like thoughts flashed across her mind: could sothing have happened to Buding?
Su ng looked awkward as she approached Li Si. Luckily, Leng Ning wasn’t at the table, having gone to the restroom. This allowed Su ng to speak freely.
"Sisi! That was my mother!" she admitted guiltily. "She let slip about that Buding matter to your family! Honestly, if I had known, I wouldn’t have brought her along! Look at the ss we’ve landed in!"
She didn’t expect her normally distant mother to suddenly hit it off with Mrs. Leng, chatting away to no end, eventually leading to this slip-up.
Now that Mrs. Leng knew, Su ng couldn’t help but feel concerned for Li Si. The relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law was hard enough to manage—how would things go now that this had been revealed? Surely, Li Si would bear the brunt of Mrs. Leng’s displeasure.
Su ng silently reproached her mother for ddling, regretting the trouble caused.
She kept brainstorming ways to help smooth things over, distressed by the situation.
Li Si felt as though all her careful asures had been for naught. The bodyguards and servants at ho had been sworn to secrecy, but she had overlooked Mrs. Su.
Still, as the saying goes, there’s no such thing as a completely airtight secret—it was bound to co out eventually!
She chuckled lightly, "It’s fine! The truth was going to be revealed eventually. Now that it has, it’s not a big deal! Please reassure your mother; she doesn’t need to bla herself! Really, it’s nothing!"
Since the Leng Family parents already knew, there wasn’t much to worry about anymore. She couldn’t let Mrs. Su and Su ng harbor guilt over this either.
There was no need!
Su ng still couldn’t help feeling guilty. "Sisi, don’t say that just to comfort . I know..."
At that mont, Leng Ning returned, cutting off Su ng mid-sentence.
Leng Ning glanced at the two of them with a smile and asked, "Sister-in-law! What are you two chatting about that’s so mysterious?"
She thought her sister-in-law and Su ng seed a bit odd.
What could have happened while she’d gone to the restroom that she didn’t know about?
"Oh, it’s nothing!" Li Si deflected with a laugh. This wasn’t the right ti to tell Leng Ning about the matter. Knowing her personality, she would surely lose her composure upon hearing it.
Anyway, the wedding banquet was about to end, and they’d soon head back. She could share everything on the way ho.
Though Li Si appeared calm and collected, she still harbored so uneasiness. She couldn’t predict whether Mrs. Leng’s temperant would lead to a dramatic outburst.
It wasn’t that she feared Mrs. Leng; it was simply that, as the daughter-in-law, she preferred not to create a strained situation.
Leng Mochen noticed her subtle worry and gently patted her hand in reassurance, "Don’t worry! I’ll handle it!"
Li Si gazed at him with heartfelt affection. "I know!"
Elsewhere, Mrs. Su was feeling deeply remorseful after the call to her daughter.
It seed she was regressing as she aged. Idle chatter should’ve stayed harmless—how had she ended up blurting out that incident with Buding?
She knew full well that this was a sensitive topic—a proverbial bombshell. Su ng had repeatedly warned her, and she had genuinely taken those warnings seriously.
Who could have guessed that during her conversations with Mrs. Leng, the words would just slip out unbidden?
At the ti, Leng Mochen’s mother had visibly changed her expression, and under persistent questioning, Mrs. Su had no choice but to relay everything she knew.
Looking back, hadn’t she just caused unnecessary trouble for Li Si?
Putting herself in Li Si’s shoes, she imagined: if this were her own child facing such a situation, wouldn’t Su ng’s mother-in-law also hold the daughter-in-law accountable?
It was obvious. Especially since the incident with Buding was so severe—it had nearly escalated to an abduction!
Mrs. Su paced back and forth in the room, tornted by self-bla and regret. Various emotions churned within her, leaving her desperate to make ands sohow.
In the crib, Peanut blinked his dark, shiny eyes and gazed around. He waved his tiny arms and babbled, drawing Mrs. Su’s attention instantly. She walked briskly over to the crib and leaned in, "Baby, are you hungry?"
