Mrs. Leng told Xiao Ning to go over to the staircase first and listen to what they were saying.

Leng Shuang saw Mrs. Leng sitting alone in the living room and imdiately gained confidence. She launched into a tearful complaint, claiming that her sister-in-law’s friends were too overbearing last night, constantly picking on her and bullying her. She insisted she had acted out because she was aggrieved and angry, and that throwing the wine bottle was never intentional! She hadn’t expected Brother Xu to get hurt!

Leng Shuang’s mother chid in, swearing and making vows to back her daughter up. "I swear, my Xiao Shuang absolutely didn’t intend to hurt anyone. If soone ended up getting injured, it was totally an accident! Sister-in-law, you know how well-behaved Xiao Shuang is usually! How could she possibly harm anyone?"

Leng Ning couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Leng Shuang’s mother must have so serious vision issues, likely both near-sightedness and astigmatism. No matter how you looked at Leng Shuang, there was no way anyone could say she was "well-behaved"! What was her standard for "well-behaved," exactly?

Mrs. Leng’s unhappiness showed clearly on her face as she responded curtly, "Forgive my poor eyesight, but I’ve never once seen how this child is so well-behaved! A girl resorting to violence—no matter how justified she thinks she is—imdiately loses any justification. Don’t bother bringing such argunts to ! Or do you want to step in and fight for justice on her behalf?"

Leng Ning cheered internally: Go, Mom!

Leng Shuang and her mother’s expressions changed dramatically. They had ticulously discussed their plan at ho before coming over. Even though they didn’t interact much with Mrs. Leng normally, they knew she was fiercely protective of her own.

Since Leng Shuang had hurt soone, she figured Mrs. Leng would still stand by her, because she was part of the Leng Family. They thought if they ca over and played soft, expressing grievances and regret, Mrs. Leng would surely step in to settle the matter.

And since the other woman was Li Si’s friend, maybe Mrs. Leng would even seize the opportunity to scold her daughter-in-law a bit!

Unfortunately, Mrs. Leng didn’t follow their script.

Leng Shuang’s mother’s eyes darted around before adopting a tone as if standing up for Mrs. Leng, saying, "Sister-in-law! By all rights, this isn’t sothing I, as a distant aunt, should say, but Mochen’s wife’s friend was a bit excessive. Not giving face even to the family! Sister-in-law, they clearly weren’t considering you at all!"

Mrs. Leng’s face turned even colder. The issue wasn’t about soone disrespecting her, but that Xu Er had been hurt. Instead of apologizing and resolving the matter, they were here trying to shirk responsibility and sow discord—truly deplorable behavior!

Nevertheless, Leng Shuang and her mother thought Mrs. Leng was taking their side, and their hearts swelled with satisfaction.

Mrs. Leng scoffed coldly, "You two mother and daughter really have opened my eyes! Do you think the truth of the matter is whatever cos out of your mouths? My Xiao Ning was there at the ti too. Xiao Ning, tell us, what exactly happened?"

Leng Ning had been itching to speak up for a long ti. If it weren’t for her mom telling her to hold off and see what kind of nonsense they spouted first, she would’ve jumped out imdiately to refute them.

Seeing Leng Ning erge from the staircase, Leng Shuang lowered her head nervously, thinking Leng Ning wouldn’t have been awake or at ho at this hour.

But she hadn’t expected her to overhear the entire conversation. Leng Shuang’s heart boiled with resentnt.

After last night’s incident, she had been genuinely panicked!

She admitted she had acted impulsively, but she hadn’t expected to injure Xu Er so seriously. Blood had imdiately stread from his forehead.

However, that woman surnad Bai was no saint either; she had rushed at her like a madwoman and slapped her hard across the face!

The slap left her ears ringing, and she had been too scared to retaliate, afraid she might have really hard Xu Er badly. So she had just covered her face and didn’t fight back.

The other girl had threatened to call the police.

She had been truly terrified—everything was so chaotic, and for reasons unknown, they ultimately hadn’t gone through with it.

A group of people had helped Xu Er get to the hospital for treatnt.

Leng Shuang had wanted to follow them to check on him but was harshly scolded by that woman surnad Bai, telling her to stop pretending to care. Leng Ning had also chid in and shoved her away.

Later, she had secretly followed them to the hospital and watched them co out from outside. Seeing Brother Xu only had so bandages wrapped around his head and still seed energetic relieved her completely.

But after returning ho, the more she thought about it, the more frustrated she beca. That was why she and her mother had concocted a version of the story favorable to her.

Leng Shuang’s mother’s face showed awkwardness. She had only heard a rough account from her daughter and knew her daughter’s version was probably exaggerated. Nonetheless, how could she let her daughter suffer grievances? Every mother defends her own child.

Still, seeing her daughter’s guilty expression, Leng Shuang’s mother suddenly had a sinking feeling—could there be parts of the story she hadn’t heard yet?

Leng Ning looked at them with disdain and recounted the events of last night in detail, even repeating so of Leng Shuang’s provocative remarks, which she had morized with surprising clarity. She couldn’t help but admire her own sharp mory!

Leng Shuang completely deflated, and her mother was furious upon learning about the foolish things her daughter had said. She glared at Leng Shuang sharply.

Had her daughter never encountered a man before? The guy already had a girlfriend, so why was she even causing such a scene?

Mrs. Leng looked at them with disdain. "So now you understand what happened? When trouble arises, instead of apologizing and offering compensation to calm things down, you co here scheming lowly tricks to drive a wedge between and my daughter-in-law!

Do you know why they didn’t report this to the police? It’s only because of the consideration they showed for my family and my daughter-in-law. Don’t you understand what day yesterday was? It was a big celebratory occasion, and you caused this ss! Your family truly broadened my horizons today!"

Mr. Leng happened to co out of his study and caught the tail end of Mrs. Leng’s words. He asked sternly, "What’s going on here?"

Leng Shuang and her mother exchanged fearful glances. Leng Shuang’s grandfather hadn’t heard about this yet, and if he did, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Mrs. Leng snorted with contempt, "If you want to know what happened, just ask these ’esteed’ relatives of yours! Honestly, I don’t know what kind of upbringing they’ve had! Teaching a child to act like this! Later, when Mochen and the others arrive, let’s see how they handle this ss! I’m done with this! I don’t want to deal with it!"

With that, Mrs. Leng went back to her room to call Leng Mochen and the others.

Leng Shuang and her mother stayed silent, standing there stiffly. Leng Ning sneered and thought, "If you knew this would happen, then why behave the way you did initially?" She then recounted the events to Mr. Leng all over again.

Mr. Leng slamd down the tea cup he was holding with a loud "smash," shattering it on the ground.

"Unbelievable! What were you even thinking?"

He was incensed. When Leng Shuang was younger, he actually liked her quite a lot. Back in the day, he was fairly close with Leng Shuang’s father.

However, as he spent more ti abroad and his father’s business grew bigger, their connection gradually faded.

This ti, with Mochen’s wedding, Leng Shuang’s family had co over, and Mr. Leng had thought they could start reconnecting. His father, who valued familial bonds, especially with Leng Shuang’s well-aged and still healthy grandfather, had felt so fondness and planned to pull so strings to help Leng Shuang’s family.

He’d even ntioned potentially giving Leng Shuang’s father a project to test the waters.

But this ss—how could Xu Family simply let it slide?

In public, Xu Er seed easygoing, but his father was known to be a tough negotiator, ranking among the top nationwide with his chain of five-star hotels.

Mr. Leng felt his thoughts swirl with endless complications. Ultimately, he’d have to brief his father about this. (To be continued.
