The first thing Li Si did upon waking up the next morning was to look at Leng Mochen. Who exactly was he?

Thankfully, he didn’t appear. Instead, the one staring at her from the side was Lu Zhenghang.

Everything felt so chaotic.

Leng Mochen didn’t want to see her frown and gently comforted her, "Don’t be afraid! This bracelet probably has so mystical power!"

The two had stayed up late talking the previous night, finally falling asleep out of sheer exhaustion, with not a single dream to disturb them.

All their worries vanished in the refreshing clarity of the morning.

What could be more important than waking up to see your beloved right in front of you?

Li Si gazed happily at the bracelet on his hand. The morning sunlight was wonderful, streaming through the pink gauzy curtains. Unlike last night, the bracelet now emitted a glowing green light.

"It really is a good thing." As long as it could suppress *him*, that was enough. But she still didn’t know whether what she was doing was right or wrong.

After the scare they’d had yesterday, neither of them wanted to leave the other’s side. They stuck together all morning, even washing up together.

It wasn’t until Mrs. Leng called to say she’d be coming over to check on them that they broke from their little cocoon. She was genuinely worried. Xiao Ning had told her that her brother and sister-in-law seed a bit off, which had left her feeling unsettled.

Could it be that Mochen had rembered sothing and was still hung up on that wretched woman Qian Rouxuan, no longer loving Li Si?

She couldn’t help but overthink—it was impossible not to, given the things Mochen had done back then, which remained etched in her mory.

If that truly were the case, she’d have to talk so sense into him. Li Si was already married to him, only awaiting the wedding ceremony. They even had a baby on the way. He absolutely could not betray her now.

Originally, Leng Qiankai had planned to co over as well, but Mrs. Leng sent him off to continue searching for Leng Mohao. Even if it ant tracking him to the ends of the earth, they had to find him. Tomorrow was a workday at the company for most people—how long could he keep hiding?

You can run, but you can’t hide. Would he abandon the company entirely?

Luckily, it was Mochen who opened the door when she rang. Observing her son’s expression carefully, Mrs. Leng found no unusual signs compared to normal tis. Then, seeing Li Si lounging comfortably in her pajamas, she finally felt at ease.

Judging by appearances, even if he had recovered his mories, it didn’t seem to affect Li Si. That was a relief!

"Mom, you’re here!" Li Si smiled as she took the insulated food container Mrs. Leng had brought. Inside, it was bound to contain sothing nutritious and delicious.

Mrs. Leng glanced at Li Si before smiling and saying, "Yesterday really scared . Later, Xiao Ning ntioned it, and I said to myself: What kind of mid-autumn festival is this where such a thing happens? Sisi, it must have frightened you too at the ti, didn’t it?"

Seeing that Li Si’s eyes were rely a little dark around the edges, likely due to lack of sleep, and her complexion still good, Mrs. Leng felt considerably more reassured—as long as the couple was fine.

On the way over, she had been worried. Sure, Qian Rouxuan was already behind bars, but what if her son was foolish enough to still be hung up on a woman like that? That would be unacceptable.

"Yes, I was quite anxious at the ti. But fortunately, everything is alright!" Li Si didn’t elaborate further, giving a simple explanation.

"Have you eaten breakfast yet?"

"Yes, we’ve eaten!"

"I brought you so lean pork bird’s nest soup. It’s very nutritious!" Mrs. Leng carefully opened the container, releasing a fragrant aroma.

She’d gotten up exceptionally early to prepare the soup. This had co from a recomndation by a traditional Chinese dicine practitioner, who claid that the soup could replenish blood, nourish yin, and assist in digestion—beneficial for both pregnant won and their babies.

"Thank you!" Li Si was relieved it wasn’t chicken soup.

"Drink so! Sisi, how does it taste?!"

Li Si took a small spoonful and tasted it. The flavor was quite nice. "It’s delicious! Mom, is Grandpa alright?"

Yesterday, she’d been wondering whether the old man could withstand such a shocking incident and hoped his hard-earned recovery wouldn’t be affected.

"I stopped by the old residence to see him this morning. He’s much better now! It’s all because Leng Mohao upset him! Anyway, let’s not talk about him!" She didn’t want to dwell on it, fearing that discussing it further might also upset Li Si. That wouldn’t be good for the baby.

Li Si’s heart was clear, though she outwardly remained silent.

Leng Mochen erged from the bedroom after changing his clothes. When he saw her in good spirits, he smiled faintly and asked, "Does it taste good?"

"It’s delicious! Want to try so?" Li Si swallowed the soup in her mouth and teased him intentionally.

Leng Mochen’s lips twitched. "...No, thank you." He didn’t care for it.

Mrs. Leng chuckled from the side. "Mochen, what kind of soup would you like? I’ll make it for you tomorrow!"

"Sea cucumber soup, maybe." A complex emotion flickered in his eyes. From the things Li Si had been saying, he knew that Leng Mochen’s original self was still residing in his body.

"Alright!" Mrs. Leng exclaid, overco with emotion. Seeing that Mochen wasn’t as cold toward her as before, her eyes reddened slightly.

Li Si watched from the side, her emotions intricate. In the end, this was Leng Mochen’s mother. Sigh, it was an unsolvable dilemma.

...

A few days later, Heizi delivered news of a breakthrough in the case.

Even he himself could hardly believe it—the timing was so precise. That day, after leaving the labyrinth, he had headed straight back to his office and contacted his buddies in C City who were investigating the incident involving Leng Mochen.

After so discussion, he decided to personally visit the city to look into the case. Taking an overnight train, he arrived and barely stepped out of the station when he saw a pickpocket using a blade to cut a girl’s bag.

"Hey!" Heizi shouted. The punk actually glared at him fiercely, signaling for him to mind his own business.

Heizi couldn’t believe it. Did this scrawny teenager honestly think his look was intimidating? Did his appearance hold no deterrent power whatsoever?

Without hesitation, Heizi subdued him in re monts. "You cheeky brat, you think I’m weak just because I haven’t roared yet? Do you want to live or not?"

When Songzi—a colleague from the local detective squad—arrived to pick him up, he observed the scene and joked, "Wow, you never forget to fulfill your duties no matter where you go."

"Stuff it!" Heizi snapped, irritated. "You think I wanted to? I just happened to run into this!"

In the car, the kid confessed quickly, claiming he was an orphan who had run out of options, thus resorting to desperate acts, and begged them to give him a chance to turn his life around.

Heizi was good at reading people. He could tell from the boy’s shifty eyes that he wasn’t being completely honest. But since this wasn’t his jurisdiction, he decided to leave the matter to the local team.

Songzi, being a generous and supportive guy, knew Heizi was here as a favor to a friend. He also understood that as soon as the investigation was complete, Heizi would have to return to Beijing, where a pile of tasks awaited him.

He hurriedly shared whatever information he had: "That guy nad Ah Fa—I looked into him. Real na Zhou Feng. After a car accident years ago, he only had his elderly mother, who later fell ill and passed away. His only son, Zhou Zhi, went missing!"

Heizi rubbed his stubbly chin thoughtfully. "This case isn’t going to be easy to handle, huh!"

The boy near him, silent for a while, hesitated but eventually spoke timidly, "Officer, what cri is the person you’re looking for guilty of?"

Heizi’s sharp gaze swept over him. "Why do you want to know?"

The boy grew visibly nervous. "I’m just curious!"

"Is this any of your business? Better think about how you’re going to explain yourself later!" Songzi scolded him. How could he still have the nerve to ddle in others’ affairs?

The boy shrank back, not daring to speak again. He stared out the window, seemingly lost in thought.

"Do you know the person we’re talking about?" Heizi was quick to pick up on details. Based on the kid’s reaction, it seed likely he recognized the individual they were ntioning.

The boy seed to wrestle with a significant decision before responding, "If I help you find the person you’re looking for, can you let off this ti? Just this once! My little sister is still in their hands—I don’t dare disobey them!" (To be continued. If you enjoyed this story, please visit Qidian to vote with recomndations or monthly tickets.
